December 1, 200421 yr 1993. 11 years old and a huge Dolphins fan, I adopted them as my team because they played in the same stadium as Dan Marino. A fact that I learned to lament 6 years later. Checked their box score daily, read about them weekly in Baseball Weekly, forever wished a community such as this existed. In my mind I imagined hundreds of educated Marlins fans discussing Pat Rapp's significance to Florida Marlins history and so on. A few months ago when it came apparent that the Expos were moving to my hometown and the luster of this community wore off, I considered trading my Marlins stuff for Nats/Senators/Grays caps. However every time I see the color teal I smile, and I cringe at the sight of a Mets or Braves cap. And after all these years (okay, 5) of waiting for that a** Huizenga to get what he deserving of and realizing this franchise is so close to realizing its full potential, I can't let go. With every success and disappointment the Marlins have put all of us fans through, they've drawn me closer.
December 1, 200421 yr I've been a Marlins fan since they announced we were getting a baseball team. I remember going to the Orioles/Yankees exhibition series (can't remember where it was - Orange Bowl??). I think that 2 game series was played to really see if there was any interest in baseball in South Florida... Wayne Huizenga's picture back then was a nice one. Now, I throw darts at him. 623876 Wasn't that at PPS? They had the left field fence set up at 250ft I think and the fence was made of chain link.
December 1, 200421 yr Being from Scotland I didn't watch any baseball! Then one school holiday late at night i flicked over and the world series was on. Being a big fan of football and basketball i gave it a chance. It was game 3 in Florida and i loved every minute of it. I was desperate for Florida to win the series as I hated the Yankees (reminded me too much of Manchester United and Glasgow Rangers/Celtic). I watched the Marlins triumph in the next three games and was delighted to see them win the series. When the next season started i was hooked and seen the hightlights of nearly every game on baseball tonight. Gutted at missing playoffs, thought we where gonna do it when we won 10 in a row.
December 1, 200421 yr When the team was announced. Check out the original site -- Circa 1993. I was 11 so cut me some slack. 623895 OMG that link brought back some memories. I miss those Jerseys! They have to bring them back :thumbup
