Mr. Marlin. This team could use a public relations shot in the arm. Jeff Conine does that for you. This team could use a steady veteran on the roster. Jeff Conine does that for you. This team could use a consistent RBI bat. Jeff Conine does that for you. You give up Derrek Lee who with all his wonderous potential has never come through in the clutch when needed most. Discuss your thoughts on bringing Jeff Conine to the Marlins here. Both pros and cons.
July 7, 200323 yr What you mean never came through in the clutch. He had the game winning hit couple nights ago.
July 7, 200323 yr I think you said it all pretty nicely. Conine was our first 'star;' he won the All-Star MVP (shove it up your keister, Bobby Cox!); he was the mini-Iron Man, at one point playing in something like 400 straight games; and he's still Mr. Marlin (my Mom used to have a Marlins' license plate with "CO9 19" on it, and he's still my favorite Marlin from way back). Anyhow, as much as I like D-Lee, I wouldn't mind losing him if Mr. Marlin comes back. -Nerd
July 7, 200323 yr I'm a Lee fan, but he ain't clutch... THE WORD CLUTCH DOES NOT EXIST!!!! :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead
July 7, 200323 yr Yes, I think this topic has been well exhausted already, as evidenced by the Potential Lee/Conine Trade post that has like 200 replies already.
July 7, 200323 yr Yes, I think this topic has been well exhausted already, as evidenced by the Potential Lee/Conine Trade post that has like 200 replies already. Well at least we get to see a picture/official stats for Jeff.
July 7, 200323 yr Author the other topic became so littered with so many other rumors that jeff conine deserved a topic of his own. There are two drawbacks to acquring Jeff Conine. 1) Not as good defensively as Lee. 2) A decade older than Lee. The positives far outweigh the negatives. Coming through in the clutch 1 out of 10 times does not make you clutch.
July 7, 200323 yr he will also put more fans in the stands, something Lee will never do in a marlins uniform
July 7, 200323 yr he will also put more fans in the stands, something Lee will never do in a marlins uniform That's a big positive.
July 7, 200323 yr He will also be able to be here for LESS money than this season, which would be huge. It would give us time to develop Stoke and/or Gonzalez for one more season...
July 7, 200323 yr Conine would be a cheaper alternative than Lee at first until our guys develop in the minors. He is proven to be good offensively and solid defensively. He is a fan favorite, a veteran, and a team player. Mr. Conine, you are welcome on our team any time you feel like it!
July 7, 200323 yr :thumbup YES make the deal! 1.With runners in scoring position, Lee is hitting .267 compared to Conine's .321. 2. 61 RBI's which would be second on this team 3. Like Wild Card metion it would give A Gonzalez and Stokes an extra year in minors before competing for a spot on Marlins.
July 7, 200323 yr Author The positives far, far outweigh the negatives. Hopefully Mr. Beinfeist will do the intelligent thing.
July 7, 200323 yr Haven't we just about beaten this subject into the ground today? :banghead My point exactly... can't we discuss something else for a change? maybe bullpen help? ...oh, wait, that has already been discussed to the point of exhaustion too... :banghead
July 7, 200323 yr THE WORD CLUTCH DOES NOT EXIST!!!! :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead Obviously they are not paying attention, let it go... we all have our own baseball myths...
