I wouldn't say A.J.'s a better hitter, but other than that I completely agree. The point is moot now. LoDuca accepted arb, which means the Marlins are going to be paying $5.5+ million for his mediocre production next year.

I was at that game. I remember it quite well. I guess you forgot how the guy, basically, disappeared in September. 1 GW homer doesn't make up for a month-long slump. This guy tanks badly every year after the All Star break. His 3-year splits have him at a .622 OPS post-ASB and a sub-.300 OBP. So, you're talking about, basically, paying $5.5 million for half a year of Jason Kendall and half a year of Henry Blanco.

 

As bad as people complain about Lowell's slumps post-ASB, he's nowhere near the pits that Lo Duca reaches. Lowell still has mediocre productivity down the stretch.

If you don't know why, then how do you know that he is? Every story I heard out of Minnesota was that they loved the guy. The only reason they got rid of him, was because Joe Mauer was ready.

We must have had 10 threads debating on who is better, Pierzynski or LoDuca, the day the Giants released him.. I'm not going down that road again. All I will say is that I'm glad the Marlins decided to keep LoDuca.

Fact is, the guy was released by the Giants for a reason. I won't argue that he is a good player, but when you weigh his attitude vs his talent, it becomes evident that he is expendable.

 

Not only is he below average defensively, but he led the NL in grounding into double plays. Marlins fans would jump all over him, calling him a rally killer.... I liked him as a Giant, but I can't say I'm sad to see him go... I'm thrilled to have Matheny over A.J in San Francisco.

You're quoting something (I suspect STATS) which is at least one if not more season's removed (2003 or before). Obviously the Giants pitchers felt differently about him than some profiling service.

Pierzynski and Lo Duca are about equal I'd say. Though Pierzynski, maybe a bit better defensively than Lo Duca, I can't say. I was not at all impressed with Lo Duca's defense last year, though. So if Pierzynski could be had for cheaper than Lo Duca than sure it would be worth it.

I never realized a sub .200 September and the ability to throw out runners on par with an armless man, would make Lo Duca better. Also, those GIDPs were really clutch too.

No doubt LoDuca's enthusiasm improves the clubhouse chemistry. The guy gives it 100% every day.

 

He may not be a Pudge, but he is certainly one of the better catchers in the league.

 

...Now if he would only work on lowering his passed balls......not easy when you've got Burnett and Beckett throwing benders at you.

Acctually the month he broke his pinkie he went .337/.408/.438/.846 I think breaking the pinkie helped him.
