It's not Flooooyd!! I haven't been here for long I have just been lurking through the boards I love it when people throw out bogus rumors. There will be something going down after christmas which will involve a bat and an arm.

why dont we sign Drew, Alou, Hammond that's our recipe for success LOL :lol

Just a few of Cliff Floyd's observations regarding his failed extortion demand for $10+ million a year for multi-years from the new ownership of the Florida Marlins in 2002 - the year he went from the Marlins to the Expos to the Red Sox who dumped him and then settled with the Mets for what he was making here.

Those of you who were Marlins fans back then must remember almost daily tv and newspaper bits castigating the new (Loria) ownership for not giving Cliffie the $10 million they all said he'd get no problem on the open market. If they (Loria) didn't give him what he deserved, they all said, this franchise would go to h*ll in a hand basket and no one in South Florida should waste a seconds time following what would surely turn into a minor league team.

Quotations from Chairman Clifford :

"It's almost to the point if all the other teams in the game said, `We don't want to sign Cliff Floyd,' and the Marlins did, I wouldn't go," he says, eyes flashing. "I'd retire or go to Japan."

It's the last few weeks of his Marlins tenure that left a particularly sour taste in his mouth. He wonders, for instance, why Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria told the team in late June that the club would be kept together, only to renege on that promise a few weeks later.

"It's understandable they couldn't keep me over there, but just don't lie to the guys then," Floyd says. "Tell everybody the truth, and we would have understood."

He still feels anger toward club President David Samson, who Floyd says made it clear he wasn't the sort of player who could make a difference in saving South Florida baseball.

"[samson] was basically saying, `We know we're going to lose. Why lose the little money we make?'" Floyd says. "Who the heck is Cliff Floyd? Nobody. Nobody who's going to do anything for him. He could care less about me.

"I don't think all of them felt that way, but I think he did. That's the way I feel about him. Who cares about him? I could care less who he is."

Samson disputes Floyd's version of the meeting, calling it "hearsay" and saying his discussion with Floyd's agents was "just a conversation about the franchise."

He still seethes at Samson. "He's not good for baseball," he says. "You think I would ever tell somebody to go play for him? Please. That's the worst guy in the world. ... He thinks because he talks so clever, everybody is supposed to listen to him and say, `Wow, he makes a lot of sense.' He makes none to me."

"Of all the things that happened, that was mind-boggling," he said. "The Yankees wanted me. Done deal. Send me up there? Naw. Red Sox were getting ready to want me. Atlanta was talking, the Mets were talking, Anaheim, San Francisco, the Dodgers. You send me to Montreal?"

"To me that whole thing boiled down to disrespect," he continues. "You're going to trade me? Come and tell me. I'm a big boy. Tell me I'm gone. Talk to me: `We know you hate turf. We know it would be bad for you career to send you to somebody that's going to hurt you.'

And finally regarding the organization in general, "That's how [little] respect I got," Floyd says. "I'm not a superstar, but they would have done that to Barry Bonds. They would have done it to the nicest guy in the world. They mistreat everybody. People say you don't want to step on any toes. Well, some people you don't care about. That's one bridge I'm not afraid to burn."

Such is life Cliffie. :p

No I don't think he'll be back. lololololol

Anything MarlinsGuru says should be disregarded as moronic..

Marlinsinsider's post is intriguing though... :mischief2

Not one of these threads again.

Why do people like Teal Shadow and marlinsguru say they are insiders, then they come out and say that something is cooking.

If you are going to say a rumor say names. Atleast people have something to talk about instead of just bashing the poster who said it.

I believe this thread began as a feeble attempt at humor, the operative word being "attempt". But at least for me it gave me one more opportunity to remind others what a...oh it's the Christmas season and Santa is watching...you know what Cliff Floyd is.

For that I'm thankful for the thread. I hope that doesn't mean coal in my Xmas stocking Santa? :elf

MarlinGuru, exactly what makes you an "insider?" Unless you work for the Marlins or are the son of Admin f'ing Beinfest, you're not an insider.

Teal Shadow and MarlinGuru keep your mouths shut unless you have facts to report. You guys are really sick and I, for one, have no tolerance for your ego BS.
