A.J. off the block according to his agent

Featured Replies

Baltimore Sun

Darek Braunecker, who represents Florida pitcher A.J. Burnett, said the Marlins indicated again this week that they intend to keep the right-hander rather than trade him. The Orioles have expressed interest, but the Marlins were willing to move him only if they could acquire Oakland pitcher Tim Hudson in a three-way deal. Hudson was traded to the Atlanta Braves.

Then again, this is the agent that failed to notify Burnett of his arbitration status this off-season which lead to A.J. bragging to friends about how much money he was going to make in free agency.

Aj would sign long-term with Florida - not :plain

He has already said he would sign a long term deal. If he's a free agent next year, he would test the free agent market, but he's not against signing a long term contract right now.

Who is going to turn down having the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Angels, Baltimore, and others court you in the off-season for less money and a longer deal with Florida?

Hes shown multiple times his discust int he Marlins front office, i think he just wants to leave...

From an interview I saw a week or so ago, he didn't sound like he objected to staying here at all. He talked about how he loves South Florida, he loves pitching in this weather, and he likes the team.

He also mentioned how it is very enticing after watching Pavano this offseason, but if the Marlins offered him a multi year deal right now, I think he would really consider it.

Remember the Palm Beach Post article on how Pavano loves Florida and doesnt need money to make him happy, just a nice palce to live and to win. It's all bulls***, it a business now..

agree.. though if the marlins think they wont be able to resign him, you need to trade him (which is obvious). No one wants to see AJ Burnett go without getting some value back..

Though a good thing i heard from Pavano is that If the yankees hadnt signed him, that the marlins were his next option (On Mike and Mike in the Morning in a interview with Pavano, he said the marlins were 2nd in the Carl Pavano race).

But maybe AJ being off the Trade Block, could mean that Beinfest is talking to him about a Long term deal? :)

Why don't you get him signed now for a sweet deal so he doesn't ever get the chance to negotiate with Boston and New York?

AJ won't resign, so I don't see the point in keeping him. :thumbdown

That's why Beane is just a great GM, he knew he couldn't keep Hudson and Mulder and was able to get great prospects in return.

AJ really does like south Florida, and doesn't like NY....of course Money can do a lot, but so can a GM making a player feel appreciated. Pavano had grown up a Yankee fan, and his family wanted to see him pitch for the Yanks so that, of course, makes the Yankees money look unbeatable. If they try to sign him soon, that will count for a lot.

Welcome to the site, and is that your website? It is really nice.

What's the harm in TRYING to get a deal worked out?

They should try to sign him long term and if he doesn't want it, they would have all the reason to trade him by midseason to hopefully to a crappy team.

The only teams that are going to be interested in a half-year of Burnett will be teams in pennant races. Teams that will not give up major league talent in return. If he won't re-sign (and I'm not going to suggest they have or have not tried, we simply don't know) by late January, the Marlins should trade him and pick up a free agent starter.

This is just my opinion from watching the history of AJ's tenure with the Loria ownership, but I am not sure they are so eager to sign him long term. I don't know if it was the tone of comments after he found out he needed Tommy John surgery or that they think he is a risk - injury or character. I just get the impression they do not feel comfortable commiting long term money to him. How they manage the situation beyond that we will see in the next 12 months.

The thing is AJ will not resign with us in the offseason and theres always the risk of elbow injury with him, so resigning now is a bad idea as well. I say we should trade him now and get the most we can out of him. Trade aJ now!!! Get it done Beinfest

Umm...do you guys pay attention?

Let's see...Pavano leaves via FA for top dollar.

Beane sends off 2 of the Big Three...

And AJ has said some unpleasant things about the Marlins organization.

And you actually think he will re-sign? I am in total doubt. Pavano was a guy I thought we would get back - partially because I wanted to believe that the other teams would not overpay for him. But they did. And AJ is a legit talent - so you can be pretty sure they will overpay him. The bidding war will be fought by the big market teams - not us.

AJ is as good as gone. I just hope we use him to get back to the playoffs, trade him for some studs and win it again without him.

Not sure what to think about this. Though call anyway you look at it. Not sure if this team would be able to make it back to the playoffs w/o AJ, unless a JVazquez type deal is done. We need a legit strong pitcher since our offense is average.

I have to trust the FO on this one. Pretty hard for us to make the calls without all the details.

One thing I'm pretty sure, AJ won't be a fish on 2006
