January 18, 200521 yr On ESPN.com's Rumor Central it says that the Marlins along with a few other teams are reportedly interested in Ugi. Nothing more than that.
January 18, 200521 yr I would like to bring him back, but we're running out of space in the bullpen now.
January 18, 200521 yr No thanks...He is a good pitcher, but he have a ton of arms in the bullpen already, plus the whole kidnapping thing, his mind may not be in the game...Not to mention his salary is a nice chunk of change this year too.
January 18, 200521 yr There's always enough room for a quality arm. 658789 Ditto You cant have enough PITCHING. If it is a possibility to add a quality arm, like Urbina, you do it. I dont want teams coming back on us in the 7, 8, 9th inning.
January 18, 200521 yr who knows if Uggy will even pitch this year I dont think that whole kidnapping thing has been resolved yet
January 18, 200521 yr The real issue is who do we trade for him. He isn't exactly free. 658800 ENC for UGI :thumbup
January 18, 200521 yr I say go for it.. Besides Riedling, Alfonseca, Jones, and Mota.. Who's really a sure thing? I think we're depending on Spoony a bit too much. Nobody knows how he will come into Spring Training. It takes a while to build arm strenght back up after Tommy John surgery.
January 18, 200521 yr How did the situation with the kidnapping end up? 658900 last I know is that she is still being held for ransom on $2mil I think(that number could be alot higher, but for some reason $2mil is in my head)

January 18, 200521 yr Contingent on a Delgado signing, Stokes and Encarnacion for Urbina makes sense. Contracts are equal, and Stokes gives the Tigers a reason to take Encarnacion for a season. But, honestly, I think the bullpen is set until the deadline.
January 18, 200521 yr I'm not familiar with Uggy's contract but didn't Detroit give him a big contract, meaning he's out of our price range?
January 18, 200521 yr I'm not familiar with Uggy's contract but didn't Detroit give him a big contract, meaning he's out of our price range? 658911 Nope, this is the last year of his deal at $4.5 million.
January 18, 200521 yr http://www.detnews.com/2005/tigers/0501/18/d01-62744.htm Good article from today on Urbina's situation. He will stay with the Tigs if he pitches anywhere.
January 18, 200521 yr I say no becuase there are many guys who can put up his numbers for much cheaper
January 18, 200521 yr It would never have occurred to me to tie Uggie and Enacrnacion together as trading equivalents but there's a germ of a good idea there. Who knows if he'd be interested in returning or whether he'll even pitch in 2006 (although the Detroit News article suggests he will). And it might be considered bad form by the Tigers to dump the guy mired in his personal hell. Then there's Encarnacion who ironically began his career in Detroit. His $4.5 million salary is the same as Uggies, his career may be in as much jeopardy too. Detroit could probably use a Jason Stokes in their farm system as well. It's one of those "deals" that will almost assuredly never happen but it's fun to talk about. Might be good for both players. Might be good for both teams.

January 19, 200521 yr Just to continue this thread at little bit, I just read where Detroit is now in the hunt for Cameron. All the better to package Enc, Stokes and even $2 million as an alternative.
