January 22, 200521 yr 25 players that should be hall of famers if they retired today (players that are still active) By position: C. Mike Piazza, Ivan Rodriguez 1B. Jeff Bagwell, Rafael Palmeiro, Frank Thomas, Jim THome 2B. Roberto Alomar, Craig Biggio SS. Derek Jeter, Barry Larkin, Alex Rodriguez, Omar Vizquel LF. Barry BOnds, Manny Ramirez CF. Ken Griffey Jr., Jim Edmonds RF. Gary Sheffield, Sammy Sosa SP. Kevin Brown, Roger Clemens, Tom Glavine, Randy Johnson, Greg Maddux, Pedro Martinez, John Smoltz RP. Mariano Rivera, Trevor Hoffman EDIT: removed Mussina, added Smoltz, Larkin and Hoffman
January 22, 200521 yr Gagne hasn't had a great career yet, he has just begun. If he keeps it up, then I agree with him going in. Not placing John Smoltz in that rotation is what I don't get. He actually has better stats than Eckersley(sp?) as a starter, and as a closer he was close to mathching him. He will be starting again this year. Eck is now a HOFer.
January 22, 200521 yr C:Mike Piazza, Pudge Rodriguez 1B: Rafael Palmiero (1st ballot), Fred McGriff (deserves it more than Thomas), Jim Thome (Maybe) 2B:Robbie Alomar, Craig Biggio, Jeff Kent (maybe) SS/3B:Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Nomar Garciaparra OF: BALCO Bonds (1st ballot), Manny Ramirez (maybe), Ken Griffey Jr. (1st ballot), Sammy Sosa (1st ballot), Moises Alou (maybe), Carlos Beltran (if he avoids injury is a possiblity) DH: Edgar Martinez SP: Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson, Tom Glavine, Roger Clemens (1st ballot), RP: John Franco, Trevor Hoffman, Mariano Rivera
January 22, 200521 yr Nomar and Jeter are not hall of fame if their careers ended today...neither is Alou or Beltran
January 22, 200521 yr You don't think Jeter would make it as of right now? He is a .300 career hitter, team captain, 4 rings, ROY, WS MVP, Gold Glove, and has a few web gem awards
January 22, 200521 yr You don't think Jeter would make it as of right now? He is a .300 career hitter, team captain, 4 rings, ROY, WS MVP, Gold Glove, and has a few web gem awards 662602 :plain That won't get you in the HOF. But I agree that he is a HOFer.

He is a .300 career hitter, team captain, 4 rings, ROY, WS MVP, Gold Glove, and has a few web gem awards 662602 I have never thought that team success translates into getting you into the HOF. He needs to get 2K in hits.

January 22, 200521 yr C- Pudge, Piazza 1B- Palmiero, , Bagwell, Thomas 2B- Alomar, 3B-? SS- Vizquel, AROD DH- Edger Martinez OF- Griffey Jr, Bonds, Sosa, Sheffield, Andrew Jones, Henderson, Ramirez P- Maddex, Glavine, Clemens, Martinez, Johnson, Smoltz, Rivera, Franco, Hoffman Your prolly gona argue Andrew Jones, he might be the best CF ever.. I know Hendersons sorta retired already
January 22, 200521 yr Andruw Jones is not the best CF ever, not even close. And there's no way Omar Vizquel even sniffs the HOF, the only way he gets into the HOF is if he buys a ticket. C: Piazza, Pudge 1B: Jeff Bagwell, Palmiero 2B: Alomar (questionable after the past few years), Kent SS: Jeter, Nomar, A-Rod 3B: Rolen, Chipper LF: Bonds, Manny, Rickey CF: Griffey (questionable) RF: Sosa, Sheff SP: Maddux, Schilling, RJ, Glavine, Clemens RP: Gagne (Smoltz is he was still closing)
January 22, 200521 yr wow andruw jones is nowhere near the best CF ever there's this guy named joe dimaggio. or one named ty cobb. or how about tris speaker. there's some dude named joe jackson. This guy ken griffey is supposed to be pretty good. some mickey mantle guy i read about once. yea, i think we get the point
January 22, 200521 yr He'll be well over 200 career wins by the time he retires and is practically a legend for his performance in the 2004 postseason. I think he's a shoo-in.

January 22, 200521 yr There's a lot of people mentioned, like Scott Rolen, who are hall of fame caliber players but not HOF players right now. My list: C - Pudge, Piazza 1B - Palmeiro, Bagwell (maybe) 2B - Alomar, Kent (maybe) SS - Larkin, Vizquel (maybe), ARod (maybe), Jeter (postseason maybe) 3B - C Jones (maybe) OF - Bonds, Henderson, Sosa, Griffey, Sheffield (maybe) SP - Clemens, Unit, Maddux, Glavine, Pedro, Schilling (maybe) RP - John Franco (maybe), Trevor Hoffman (maybe), Mariano Rivera (postseason maybe)

He didnt reach the expectations that were unfairly put on him, but that isnt his fault.
