January 26, 200521 yr I'm not even gonna think about Vlad, I think we got a great guy in Delgado and i'm happy. I would have loved to have Vlad but right now i'm just as happy with Delgado

January 26, 200521 yr I would have preferred Vlad, but I am satisfied with Delgado. Still would prefer Lee and Pudge!!
January 26, 200521 yr Author I would have preferred Vlad, but I am satisfied with Delgado. Still would prefer Lee and Pudge!! 668219 Yeah, I think we would have had a great chance to repeat last season had D-Lee and Pudge still been around, but I guess we can't dwell on the past. Especially with this franchise :shifty
January 26, 200521 yr There wasnt this money last year for Vlad, not would we have been able to afford him. Offering a 1 year deal for like 12 million for vlad was an insult. We were never going to sign him

Especially with this franchise :shifty 668225 Well it would have been Lee or Pudge. They traded Lee away because they thought they could sign Pudge. Most people here did not like Lee because for the first 4 and a half months he didnt do anything

January 26, 200521 yr But Lee and Pudge where both clutch in the postseason run.... Also...I will admit it..I miss Pudge and I wish we would have given him the money...
January 26, 200521 yr This helps... but come on seriously. Vlad was a MVP candidate, proven by the fact he won it this year, younger and just a better overall player. He wanted to come here and it wasn't a big difference between what he wanted and what we offered. How can you say it makes up for not signing a guy who just won the MVP in the AL and has no reason not to win it 3 more times in a row?
January 26, 200521 yr hey, we're not the yankees - you can't expect to get too many of guys like these. meanwhile, the angels wish they had starting pitching.
January 26, 200521 yr I'm not even gonna think about Vlad, I think we got a great guy in Delgado and i'm happy.? I would have loved to have Vlad but right now i'm just as happy with Delgado 668208 What good did he do in Anaheim? Er LA...Er Anaheim of LA. 668213 Um, he won AL MVP and carried his team to the playoffs
January 26, 200521 yr no. vlad >>> carlos. and regarding the contracts, vlad got 5 years, $70 million. that's $14 million per year for a perennial MVP candidate in his prime with speed and a great outfield arm. of course the biggest question with vlad was his back, but so far, so good. carlos got 4 years, $52 million. that's 13 million per year for a guy who has likely passed his prime, but is a great hitter nonetheless.
January 26, 200521 yr Yes!! Vlad is a better player but a few things. First we didnt have the ability to offer more in 2004. Second we needed a lefty power hitter. 3rd a small market team cant risk a 5 year guaranteed to a player with a hisotry of strange back problems. 32 is NOT past his prime, hell be in his prime at least 2 more years counting this one. Would i rather have had vlad? YES. But this does make up for it. Different season, different needs, different situations.
January 26, 200521 yr Author But I guess you could also say that Barry Bonds is WAY past his prime as well.... :whistle
January 26, 200521 yr Delgado is a nice consolation price 668467 He isnt a consolation price. Aside from bonds or jim thome, hes the best hitter we couldve signed. We needed a lefty
January 26, 200521 yr Vlad is by far the better player. Tremendous hitter, has speed and can play defense. Delgado also a terrific hitter but he worries me with his leg problems he had last year. Vlad over Delgado anytime for me.

January 26, 200521 yr But I guess you could also say that Barry Bonds is WAY past his prime as well....? :whistle 668464 Bonds had his best year in 2004. Delgado had his best year in 2000. Don't get me wrong, this is a good pickup, but you guys are acting like you signed Lou Gehrig to play first.

Yes Delgado is 32 years old, but he provides the impact that this team was missing. You'll never see another Lou Gehrig again, but you can't deny that Delgado is one of the best that was out there.

Vlad is a much better player no doubt about it, but i'm not gonna be depressed that we Delgado because he brings more balance to this lineup.
