July 16, 200323 yr i'm not saying to do anything on that post ramp. What i am saying is that what these "columnists" are saying is flawed logic.
July 17, 200323 yr Can someone get me this Mofo's e-mail, so i can write to him and tell him to get whats left of his head out of his A** :angry
July 17, 200323 yr I have already e-mailed him. I pleasently asked why he was so pessimistic toward the team, and he said that it is not his job to be positive nor negitive. I have responded by asking him why not be optimistic while you can be, and I'm currently awaiting his response. I might even let him know about this board. I'll maybe tell him to come and explain to ALL of the Marlin fans his reasoning and state of mind...

July 17, 200323 yr ask him very politely for his AIM screen name :mischief2 :lol No no no... He won't talk to me anymore...
July 17, 200323 yr he doesnt have to like the Marlins.... so let him bash us all the way to the wild card
July 17, 200323 yr So let me get this straight... the Cubs are at .500 and they can talk about making deals for every player in the league, yet the Marlins are 3 games over and any move they make to try for a playoff run is laughable? Its the fact that the Cubs play in a pathetically weak division, they have a very good shot at making the playoffs and making a trade makes sense, plus they got cash to pay...they have lost for 8000 years and they still sell out. The Marlins do seem to have made an odd transaction in my opinion. I dont really see Urbina helping the Marlins so much that they could justify the pawning of their future. Cubs havent won in a long time and a few transactions could put them over the top in terms of their respective division, which is the goal. A risk they could and should take. The Marlins don't have the luxury of being in a crapphole division.

July 17, 200323 yr Well Smith, our bullpen is our biggest weakness. We have had a very good rotation all season, and a pretty good line-up, but the bullpen has been shaky. Now we added one of the best closers in the game to the pen, plus we'll get Spooneybarger back. Any pitcher in our rotation can go six to 7 innings (if not more) per game. We might end up going from a bad bullpen to one of the best in the NL. There isn't a team in the NL but the Astros who can match our pen fron the seventh inning on (Spooneybarger, Urbina, Looper) and that's the Astros. Basically, we traded for Urbina to replace Spooney, and when we get Spooney back it will be like we just traded for a top level reliever, solidifying our teams only real weakness.
July 17, 200323 yr The front office is damned if you do and damned if you don't in the media's eyes. But as we can all tell, the fans in South Florida are not blaming them and are liking the moves. 1TrueFan may be able to update the ticket sales pace, but I couldn't get into the ticket buying system, it said it was swamped. Oh, don't give me too much credit Cape... I still think that this whole problem is the direct fault of the FO and thier hairbrained 1 year deals scheme. We would not be facing this huge problem if the FO would of ponied up a little of cash and signed some of these guys to multi-year deals. They are damned either way b/c they are shortsighted and went on the cheap. I'll I'm saying is that what they are doing now is the best of the bad options they have left.
July 17, 200323 yr It looks like they have realized their errors, because they are shifting to multi-year deals this offseason.
July 17, 200323 yr Believe it when I see it. I think I have earned the right over the last 5 years to be pessimistic on that one.
July 17, 200323 yr Fillet o' Fish, you have not earned that right. This is a different front office than five years ago. They can not be blamed for old faults. These ones, and for going to 1-year deals they can be blamed for. They will at least attempt to sign Lee, Gonzalez, Lowell, Encarnacion, Willis, Redman, Pavano, Penny, Burnett, Spooneybarger, and Looper to long-term deals from 2-6 years that would ultimatey raise payroll for the time being, and save MILLIONS from years on while keeping us contenders.

C'Mon WC, you really think they will try to re-sign all of these players? They can't afford it. They'll try to (and will) sign a couple but will have to trade some off b/c re-signing would be way too much money. Face it, the Fish missed the window of oppurtunity to keep alot of the current players, they are too good now and are worth more that the Marlins can pay. For example, inking Lee, Lowell and Burnett puts you at 15-18 mil for those three alone.

And in keeping us Contenders, they're bringing in fans who see the positive change. It has to be difficult to win over all the early marlins fans that turned their backs on the team after 97. This will ultimately lead to a new stadium which means more new fans which.......well, I don't know but it sounds GREAT
July 17, 200323 yr I said they would attempt to sign Lee, but in the end they will be unsucessful. Burnett will sign a deal with decent guarenteed money, packed with incentives. Overall, I think they'll end up signing Gonzalez, Lowell, Willis, Redman, Penny, Burnett, and Looper to 3+ year deals, and probably Pavano, Encarnacion, and Spooney to 2 or 1-year deals. Alot of these contracts won't have much guarenteed money, but will have lots of incentives. If the players reach those incentives, it means they're playing well, which means we are winnign, whice means the fans are in the stands, which means we can pay for that extra salary.
July 17, 200323 yr i wish it were like that wc, but most will have guaranteed money with incentives attached
July 17, 200323 yr I can't see some of the more established players signing long-term deals that are incentive-laden. If they were one year deals, or if the players were unproven then yeah, but why would an established player take a risk on incentives, especially when he can go somewhere else and get the number up front?
July 17, 200323 yr exactly. fans (and myself included) love the idea of incentive-laden contracts, because it's basically "pay for how you play" but players just aren't going to buy into it. they don't have to.
July 17, 200323 yr Shame on you for agreeing HotCorner..... You are gonna feel the wrath any minute now.......
