February 23, 200521 yr What happens if Delgado or Cabrera go down with injury? Can we still field a championship-caliber team, or does that completely obliterate any chances we have? I think that we'd be in dire straits if something like that happened. I say this with pessimism because ever since the Delgado signing, we've been receiving hype from the media, analysts and fans in general. Our team has been praised by opposing players, and I think our players feel much more confident and comfortable with our current situation. I just have a feeling that if one of our stars was injured (long time), then that composure and confidence from the other players would diminish--and even if we still had a rather competitive team, we'd regress a bit, and come up short. Now I realize the absurdity of some of what I said--how could I possibly know how the players would react? Nobody can really predict the future--I'm just trying to analyze worst-case scenarios. Some teams have interchangable parts... St. Louis wouldn't be doomed if Edmonds or Rolen went down, because they have so many other good or great players to fill the void. But we don't really have star power/consistency outside of Cabs, Delgado, Pierre and Lowell. Everyone else is questionable (regarding our positional players and their offensive output). I won't even get into our pitching issues and the possible effect of an injury...In fact, I suppose you could consider this thread an opposing view to the constant criticism of our injury-plagued big time starters (AJ and Josh). Hypothetically, what if...?
February 23, 200521 yr If this happens we would be screwed. We can only hope for the best. 692722 :thumbup
February 23, 200521 yr The Marlins contended in 2004 right down to the end without Delgado. This team was highly regarded before traded for him and the absense of either of the players mentioned, while troublesome, does not mean this team can't compete.
February 23, 200521 yr If Delgado goes down, Conine goes to 1B and Enc goes to RF. If Cabrera goes down, Enc goes to RF. Pretty simple. Still a stupid post anyway.. but I'm getting used to that from some people.
February 23, 200521 yr Author Aren't you the optimist? 692754 Of course I'm optomistic--that's why I root for my team. It's a hypothetical question...I don't want it to happen, but I just wanted to address it to see everyone's opinion... That worked well...
February 23, 200521 yr This is one of the exact reasons I don't come to this site much anymore... You post a valid question, but because the others don't like it, all you get are immature responses like these.

February 23, 200521 yr This is one of the exact reasons I don't come to this site much anymore... You post a valid question, but because the others don't like it, all you get are immature responses like these. 692783 Its not a legitamte question. Its an attention grabbing whore of a post. The beginning of spring training we dont need to be talking about WHAT IF Delgado gets hurt, or WHAT IF Cabrera gets hurt. Thats like saying WHAT IF Bonds got hurt and couldnt play, or WHAT IF Thome gets hurt, WHAT IF Shaq gets hurt, the TEAM gets F***ED is what happens. We all know this. Why post it?
February 23, 200521 yr That's funny.. I thought you wouldn't come to this site for stupid questions like this. What happens if Delgado goes down? Enc starts. What if Cabrera goes down? Enc starts. Threads like this along with threads on video games and stupid ass polls about Cabrera HRs or Gonzalez walks seems like a reason not to come rather than peoples responses to a stupid ass thread like this when the answer is obvious.
February 23, 200521 yr Author Iowa Fan, I think you're coming off way too hostile. If you don't like my opinions or thoughts, then just ignore them. There is no use unleashing testosterone upon my innocent topic
February 23, 200521 yr It is definitely a legitimate question. Just cause it may not be in your eyes, doesn't mean that it's not, in fact... The question was more of a "Would we still be competitive if we had one of our key guys get injured?" He wasn't asking a simple question as to who would start... It's absolutely incredible how many people here think that they have the perfect definition of a perfect post or a perfect thread. A bunch of people here need to check themselves, cause you've all posted stupid sh** before. And no, I won't find your old posts to back it up, like I know someone will ask... Friggin relax and let people talk about whatever the hell they want. That's why they come here.. If you don't like it, tough sh**. Just move on then.
February 23, 200521 yr I think its just that the answer to the question is so obvious. If Cabrera or Delgado went down with an injury it would significantly hurt our chances so no one wants to think about. We all know what would happen. We just don't want to talk about it
February 23, 200521 yr We could make it to the playoffs, depending upon how long either of them were out. But could we go all the way without both of them.....doubtful.
February 23, 200521 yr I happen to agree with the notion that generally people ought to feel free to post as they wish when it comes to starting threads and I tried to address his query with an appropriate (see above) reply. But at the same time what could have made this a more sustainable thread was the recognition that A) virtually all teams face this same question and B) that if the question were more broad to include players such as Castillo, LoDuca and others, what would be the fall-out?
February 23, 200521 yr Josh Willingham would step in and win ROY 692982 Does he have pictures of you in a compromising position or something?
February 23, 200521 yr Thats like asking if barry bonds and Alou went down for the season with the giants, uhhh yeah?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? now do whatever you gotta do to clear this outta the forum cuz if it does happen ITS YOUR ASS LEFTY. :guillotine
