Opening day roster

Considering what has happened this spring, this is how I think the Roster should look like Opening day.

Starting Lineup

C Paul Lo Duca

1B Carlos Delgado

2B Luis Castillo

3B Mike Lowell

SS Alex Gonzalez

LF Miggy Cabs

CF Juan Pierre

RF Jeff Conine/Juan Enc

Bench

Util. Damion Easley

Util. Wilson Delgado

OF Chris Aguila

C Mike DiFelice

Starting Rotation

Josh Beckett

Dontrelle Willis

AJ Burnett

Al Leiter

Ishmael Valdez (although if he continues to struggle in the spring, I would like to see Moehler or Bump in this spot.)

Bullpen

Nate Bump

Jim Mecir

Matt Perisho

John Riedling

Todd Jones

Antonio Alfonseca

Guillermo Mota

If we decide to take 11 pitchers I'd add Little to the bench and send Bump to the minors or put Riedling on the DL if possible.

Feel free to post what you think the Opening day rosters should look like based on what we have seen in spring training.

I think Lenny Harris will be on the bench, removing Wilson Delgado.? Not only will he provide a LH pinch hitter, Jack just likes the guy.

Yeah, I agree. I'd much rather see W. Delgado on the bench, but it seems McKeon is going to have Lenny on the roster, because, as you said, he seems to really like having him around - even though as a switch hitter Delgado could provide a left hander off the bench.

I also think Moehler has a legitimate shot to grab the last bullpen spot over Bump, if the Fish carry 12 pitchers. If not maybe W. Delgado and Harris make it, or one of Willingham, Dillon, or Little can. Personally I'd like to see Willingham get the last spot.

Don't forget about Hagerty, or the versatility given by carrying Willingham.

By no means has Willy proven himself capable of playing at this level (.171 average this spring), but Jack's thrown him out there a lot, at several positions...that versatility could play in his favor. If not, look for him to try to play well enough at AAA to earn himself a spot on another team come deadline time...

Umm...

Lenny Harris is a lefty, too.

Read MarlinAddict's post. It seemed to me at least to imply that Jack was only keeping Lenny Harris around because he was a left handed option whereas W. Delgado wasn't.

Yes, that's what he was implying.

But it sounded as if you did not know that Lenny was a lefty.

Understandable, I guess. Sorry.

(And I know that Lenny Harris is a left handed.)

Having Lenny Harris on the team would be a huge mistake, especially if we're carrying 12 pitchers. We're not gonna go into the season with only 1 utility infielder.

As far as Willy's concerned, I want him to earn a spot like I know he can, and he certainly hasn't earned a spot this spring. Although if JP starts the season on the DL, I'd be all for giving him a chance in Right Field.

I agree that having Harris would be a big mistake, but at this point it's a mistake I'm expecting to be made.

Rotation: Beckett, Burnett, Leiter, Valdez, Willis.

Bullpen: Alfonseca, Jones, Mecir, Mota, Perisho, Reidling

Starting 8/9: LoDuca, C. Delgado, Castillo, Lowell, Gonzalez, Cabrera, Pierre, Conine, Encarnacion

Bench: Easley, Aguila, Willingham, W. Delgado, Dillon.

Dillon and Willingham haven't done much in spring training, but I'm not going to project their seasons on a few weeks' playing time. Dillon and Willingham have much better skills than the alternatives'.

Replace Willy & Dilly with DiFelice and Harris and you'll have the Opening Day roster. I don't see a backup catcher (other than JWill) on your roster.

Bench: Easley, Aguila, DiFelice, W. Delgado, Harris.

If Delgado makes the team over Dillion, Jack is insane.

719127[/snapback]

Dillon plays 1B and 3B. 2B and LF not so well.

The same positions Easley and Conine can play.

Delgado gives you some quality middle infield defense, some speed and a better lefthanded bat than Lenny Harris.
