Burnett effective: A.J. Burnett logged another impressive outing, working six innings while scattering nine hits. He struck out six and walked three.

Just two of the four runs the flame-throwing right-hander surrendered were earned.

Sporting an effective breaking ball, Burnett threw a personal spring-high 106 pitches. He tossed more curveballs than he has in his previous outings.

"I had a good curveball today, and I threw a lot more of them in fastball counts," Burnett said.

Burnett, who will start the third game of the season, says he is in a better frame of mind lately. A couple of weeks ago, he reverted back to his former delivery where he used a slight turn toward second base.

"I feel good," he said. "I have one more outing and I'll go more with changeups."

Eligible for free agency after the season, Burnett wants a healthy season, something he hasn't yet had.

"It's time to put it all together," he said.

Burnett's goal is to pitch in the postseason, something he didn't do in 2003 because he underwent Tommy John surgery that year. He says he speaks weekly with Carl Pavano, who is encouraging him to sign with the Yankees after the season.

"I'd like to see what's out there," Burnett said. "I'm not opposed to staying here."

The Yankees will need a starter after they run Pavano out of New York.

But it's nice to see Burnett hasn't totally taken the Marlins off the list of possible teams.

He says he speaks weekly with Carl Pavano, who is encouraging him to sign with the Yankees after the season.

f*** you Carl.

Yes. And he is a bad guy for jumping ship himself.

It's one thing to want your friend to be on the same team as you, but it's a whole other thing to actively recruit players from your former team.

Pavs hasn't even pitched a single inning in Yankee Stadium and he's already trying to recruit our players, it's a slap in the face to the Marlins organization.

:lol

anyway Im sure stuff like this happens all the time via the phone.... its just in print right now

True.

"And I'm not opposed to leaving either"

That's the second half of the post.

AJ's gone after this season. Josh seems to be reaching a level of maturity that AJ has yet to reach, even though AJ is like four years older than Josh. I really think Josh is going to be outstanding this year... Cy Young type of season. And Dontrelle will follow suit as well. Fuk AJ.

After the Kris Benson signing god knows what Burnett will go for next season when he will be one of the top if not the top free agent pitcher available. Florida will figure something out if/when he goes somewhere else.

you are speaking about maturity yet you end your post with "Fuk AJ"

I see

I mispelled... was trying to get to bed and just wrote that. A mature man would shut the hell up and just pitch. He talks way too much... so much so that I think he himself is distracted. Look at what Josh has been doing this spring... being quiet, relatively humbe (even if he does think he's the best thing since sliced bread), and worked hard... it has translated into an amazing spring for him. What's AJ doing? Talking about joining Carl in New York. If he's thinking that, thats fine and dandy, but maybe he should just worry about pitching this season than what he's going to do during free agency.
