Higginson for Encarnacion?

Featured Replies

PLEASE DO THIS DEAL!!! Encarnacion is complete garbage. All of his supporters on this board are complete homers. Even though Higgy is vastly overpriced, at least he's left-handed, and I believe nearly ALL of his stats ar better than Eric's. Eric is not just a negative - he's a hole in the 7th slot. An out machine. And for those of you thinking his defense is ok, just count the number of balls he has misplayed this spring.

I'll concede that Eric is exceeding my expectations this spring concerning his offensive production, but the FO knows this will end when the season starts - and we'll be left with the WORST starting RF in the game.

At least with Higgy, he'll accept his role as a platoon/bench player for a contender - rather than complain about playing time. Plus, I've got to think the FO is dumping ALL of Eric's contract on Detroit - and making Detroit eat 90% of Higgy's contract. Otherwise, we'd just wait for him to be cut. This way, at least Detroit gets something in return.

Bottom line:

If you're worried about money... switch Encarnacion for Higginson

If you're worried about what's best for the Marlins on the field... keep Encarnacion.

I'd prefer what's best for the Marlins on the field. I want to keep a healthy and in-shape Encarnacion on this team. When healthy, the guy can hit. He was not healthy last year.

Higginson: BA under .250, OBP over .350......

::cough:: Hee Seop Choi !!! ::cough::

Correct me if I am wrong, but last year Choi was suppose to be our left handed power from the left side and be protection for Lowell right?

Well Higginson's job wouldl be get on base for Seabass, to keep innings going. Walks will do that well.

Hitting in the 5th spot is a lot different than the 7th or 8th spot. Higginson would most likely hit in the 7th spot though since Alex is a classic 8th hole hitter.

First, obviously you didn't read PhishPan's post:

+Higginson's OBP, SLG, TB and AVG went up last year (all of Juan E's dropped)

+Higginson's OBP last year was just 0.001 less than Juan E's career best which was in 1998.

+Higginson took about the same amount of walks last year Juan E has taken the last 2 years combined.

+Higginson had 13 assists to Juan's 6. (Juan's career high 10/Higginson's 19)

+Both had the same amount of steals, Higginson was caught 2 less times last year.

+Higginson had more SFs

+Higginson had more RBIs

+Higginson had less Ks

+Higginson had a better runs-created figure

All of this with about 40 less ABs than Juan E mind you.

How can you think Eric is OBJECTIVELY better than Higgy? Other than POTENTIAL, Higgy has got him beat in nearly every important category. Plus, Higgy would be on the bench, and Conine would get the starting nod. Unless you think Eric should start over a healty Conine (which some on this board have suggested, but it seems the FO isn't on their side), it doesn't make sense to keep a $4.5 Million bench player when we can get a better (left-handed) bench player for around $500,000. The only reason Detroit is entertaining this is because they don't want Higgy to start (neither do we), and they would have to eat his entire contract should they cut him. AT least they can salvage $500,000 and a guy who can stand in center field.

Second, having more money down the stretch for a late-season acquisition IS thinking about what's best for the Marlins "on the field." Without financial flexibility, the Marlins will not be able to adjust their roster should an injury occur or more bullpen help is needed.

And we he has a moderately better nickname in "Higgy." I don't know about y'all but saying "Enc" annoys the hell out of me.

dude, who the f*** is Eric?

Who's "Eric"

Owens man.

You mean he doesn't play for us anymore?

:lol

JUAN ENCARNACION WAS HURT LAST YEAR !!!!!!

He had no bat speed because his shoulder was in pain. His numbers, obviously, were not very good as a result. As far as I know, Higginson was fully healthy last year, and he put up those underwealming numbers.

Don't get me wrong, Higginson's fine for the bench. But I would not give him up for Encarnacion, and I would not start Higginson over Encarnacion either.

How 'bout this deal:

DET gets: Juan Encarnacion, Trevor Hutchinson

FLA gets: Bobby Higginson, Ugueth Urbina, $$$

Det wants to rid itself of Higgy, and Urbina wants to close.

But we could have the deadly set up man back again.

Be still my heart :thumbup

At this point, you have to believe the Marlins are trying to include Uggy.

Hutch might be done for the year, no way Tigers do that deal.

723722

Not to mention Urbina is also owed around 4 million I think...it would be taking a lot of pyroll on

First of all, the Tigers would have to include $$$ to pay for some chunk of Higgy's/ Ugie's salaries. I'm thinking that the Marlins wouldn't want to pay any more for the two than they're paying for Enc'y this year.

I threw out Hutch because (1) he's one of our top 10 prospects and (2) he was signed (I think) when Dombrowski was still GM. I could be wrong about that, though.

I'd trade other pitches instead of Hutch, although not Bazardo, Belizario, Olsen, Vargas or Tankersley. Maybe Rodrigo Rosario? I don't know if we can trade him, since he's a Rule V pick (albeit a AAA Rule V pick)

And we WILL need a closer come July. I'd rather get Urbina on the cheap, rather than give up what we did to the Rangers back in 2003.

why would the Tigers give up Urbina for cheap now?

723757

He wants out. He wont play for this team unless he closes.

The Percival signing was a slap in the face to him.

The Tigs should throw him at the Cubs and see what they get.

So let me get this strate you guys think the Tigers will eat the 8m + Higgy contract and Enc's 4.5 m contract when they don't neeed another outfielder?? No, I day find away to get Urbina here I dont care who he come with...Higgy who ever, as long as we dont give up a top prospect...

yea, I figured Uggy wanted to close.... so we have no use for him
