The Marlins are good when they score a lot of runs.

It was a good game. AJ had a great game. Possibly one of the best Ive seen. We have a bit of a competition going on with the pitchers, or so it seems. That should be interesting. Three homers tonight...Lo Duca was doing his thing today. Keep it up Fish!

where do we even start with this team? i mean it looks like thru the first four innings it was the same s***, i mean how many runs are we gonna average this year? oddly enough, i think if we can get consistant and do the fundamentals we can honestly average 6-7 runs a game

am i being completely crazy or is that a fair assumption?? i mean we score 1-2-3 but this is the 4th...break out? i mean we all know we're not gonna finish 81-81...

Anyone know why Luiy was bunting in the 5th? Was it his own call?

Yup. His wife is a better coach than him. Craig Minervini pointed that out last year.

It was a very nice win, but I don't think Burnett looked outstanding tonight. I think he has better games in him. He really didn't miss many bats today. The Phillies had no problem getting around on that upper 90s fastball. They made contact all game and often pulled that fastball. I know this is only his 20 or so start since Tommy John, but I think it is time to reintroduce the changeup he had 2-3 years ago. That is what really keeps hitters off-balanced and makes that fastball a lot harder to hit. With that said, the Phils do have a great hitting team, and Burnett threw strikes and kept the ball for the most part on the edges. Only three strikeouts is not impressive, especially considering Abreu, Thome, and Burrell all have a penchant to strikeouts. However, I expect Burnett to get better and put together some even stronger, more dominant-like starts ala Beckett's 11 SO gem.

Actually I shouldn't have said "cruised", he wasn't at his best certainly, but as we know sometimes you've gotta find a way to pitch through trouble. The Phils were really smacking him around early, but he induced some double-play ground balls, & made some pitches when he needed to.

The only two things that really impressed me today:

- We showed we can still scratch out runs. Juanpy double, Luiy sac bunt, Miguel ground out - in comes Pierre. We haven't done that consistently in a long time, let's hope it sticks. Also, even though he ended up being hurt, I liked the call by Alex to lay down the bunt. There was also a hit and run (though with two outs) when Lo Duca was on first and Enc blasted a single to right, I liked to see that. Let's keep that up.

- AJ showed alot of maturity tonight. The Hammer was on, but the fastball was straight. When AJ is totally locked in, he misses bats no matter what. However, he realized early this wasn't his greatest night, and he put the game in the hands of the defense. Lots of ground balls and softly hit flyouts, I liked seeing that. Great, mature outing by AJ. Let's hope this is the start of the Josh-AJ duel for the Cy Young.

A lot of progress this game.

It was a senseless play. There are so many other ways for him to get JP to 3rd...without giving up an out.

It was really nice to see AJ get some run support. He was unfortunate in many of his starts last year to get no support at all. I'm sure he was loving it once we went up 5-2.

A lot of progress this game.

It wasn't senseless at all, it was beautiful. It's what we haven't been doing, and we have to do more of it.

We can't assume our 3-7 hitters are going to come up with homers everyday.

A lot of progress this game.

With JP already on 2nd, Luis has excellent bat control and would easily be able to hit behind JP to advance him. He had every chance to hit the ball in the hole or into RF for a single. Why give up the out?

It was nice to see the team execute small ball like that, but it has its place and that's not with leadoff hitter on second with no out. JP may have an ailing hammy, but he can score from second on a hit to the outfield. A more appropriate method of advancing the runner would have been for Luiy to pull the ball to the right side of the infield.

I really wish Jack would use hit and run more.

A lot of progress this game.

Because:

A) It's much easier to score a runner from third with two chances instead of from second with three.

B) Luiy was hitting .130

C) There's a reasonable chance Luiy beats that out anyways.

D) Miguel Cabrera is on deck.

E) Carlos Delgado is up after.

If it's Alex bunting him over in the early innings, then I can see the complaint. But this was the perfect play and it netted us a run, because Miguel grounded out and Carlos didn't do anything either. And it's not like we were up 5 already and this rubbed it in, no it was a tie game and we weren't sure if any more runs were coming. You take what you can get no matter what.
