What was happening was even if JP or Castillo got on, Delgado was coming up with one or two outs, so they could afford to employ the shift. This move changes everything.

I think it's done more to ease pressure of Lowell and keep consistency with Pierre and Castillo at the top, although, if you're going to make a lineup with Delgado 3rd, it makes sense to bat LoDuca second over Castillo in the name of righty-lefty balance and the fact that having a hit and run kind of guy like LoDuca means that the shift could become completely eliminated in the event of a runner on 3rd with less than 2 outs. It's suicidal. If Luis was hitting better I wouldn't mind the Castillo/LoDuca lineup change you suggested. But rght now LoDuca provides more protection down in the lineup where he's excelled so far this season.

April 17, 200521 yr EGOs, make a small change to make a point, then stroke their ego. Veteran club with players who usually bat in certain positions and EXPECT to. Small lessons for each player until they prove something. Dont think Conine is sitting around doing nothing. Patiently waiting for his turn.
