April 17, 200521 yr hmm, Steve Phillips is raising a 'red flag' against the marlins because 4 out of our 11 games have been complete games. and he has a problem with this because we've had guys with injuries and so on. what a flamecake. no one says anything when a pitcher throws 105 pitches in a 6 inning loss but when we throw a complete game that word scares everyone. :censored
April 17, 200521 yr . no one says anything when a pitcher throws 105 pitches in a 6 inning loss but when we throw a complete game that word scares everyone. :censored 745324 Yep, Thats what I keep saying. Pedro threw over 100 pitches yesterday :mischief2 Does anyone know what he threw last outing?
April 17, 200521 yr Just his opinion and he has legit reasons to believe it. I see nothing wrong with this.
April 17, 200521 yr As long as our pitchers feel fine, let them pitch the complete games. However, someone has to get the bullpen managed right! Wiley needs to be a bit more proactive in terms of getting the bullpen guys to get into roles and routines.
April 17, 200521 yr Listen to me- Steve Phillips is an idiot. There is a reason he was fired from the Mets. He signed Alomar/Mo Vaughn etc....And he's telling us how to run a winning team?? Don't listen to this joke...
April 17, 200521 yr Author when did the D-train have injuries? 745335 he didn't i dont' remember if i read it here or in the paper or on the radio or what. but steve phillips said that jack mckeon was leaving his pitchers in too long and he was gonna hurt them, and hten jack said ...Well maybe if he did a few things right he'd still be working for the mets.

Don't listen to this joke... 745333 Yeah, precisely. That's exactly what I was thinking when that moron started talking. He should think before he opens his mouth, not spout off worthless commentary with no facts to support his statement. Dontrelle threw 95 pitches in his first CG, for crying out loud. I don't need to address how ridiculously low that is because we've talked about it all season. And Dontrelle injury prone??? Give me a break. It goes to show you that he's just as worthless as baseball commentator as he was as a general manager. Retarded, drunken, babies everywhere are appalled at how utterly inept and useless this person is.
April 17, 200521 yr Phillips is a moron, DO NOT listen to him, he's a joke. This thread isn't even needed because no one should listen to him.
April 18, 200521 yr Phillips' is not an idiot. If anyone is an idiot on the BBTN staff it's John Kruk for demanding more managers stretch out their pitchers' arms. Jack got this train going back in February. All through spring training, the starters were conditioned and handled in a way to build up their arm strength so the could dominate from the start of the regular season. He did the same thing last year and throughout the month of April our starters were going deep into games with great effectiveness and relatively low pitch counts. I think he would have stuck with it last year had he the job security and AJ at full health.
April 18, 200521 yr on the surface, 4 CG in 11 games is a legit red flag but phillips neglected that our guys have had reasonable pitch counts hes way off
April 18, 200521 yr HEILMAN with a complete game and Pedro over 100+ pitches but nothing said about that. The BBTN crew tonight did not say anything negative...in fact Gammons stated that he has watched all four and it seemed like only they pitched 6 innings. Job security? - Managers are hired to be fired
April 18, 200521 yr I understand the whole pitch count thing and all, but why tax a players arm if you don't have to, regardless of the amount of pitches he's thrown? It's a long season, I say get them out while you can, even if the pitch count is relatively low. Do we have that little faith in our bullpen. I am thoroughly convinced Saturdays game lead to todays CG. But, at some point, we have to trust these relievers, esp Mota.
April 18, 200521 yr one game doesnt change anything. we found that out last year when McKeon kept putting in Bump and Perisho.

Phillips is hired to provide IN DEPTH commentary, not to wax moronic about his superficial observasions. If he was an in depth analyst he would know that the staff has been building up their arm strength, and he would realize that "Complete Game" is a meanlingless title. What's more important is stress put on a pitcher's arm, and this is measured in pitch count. But as an "analyst" does he examine the pitch counts or our pitchers' conditioning programs? No. He buys into thoughtless bugaboo over two stupid words (Complete Game) that don't begin to tell anything about the state of a pitcher's health. Then he passes on this superstition over the television, bad mouthing our management to the public and in turn making our team look bad. He's an idiot because not once did he analyze anything, he never referenced facts about the pitcher's performance, just categorically disapproved of complete games. Meanwhile, pitchers all over the league are throwin 115 pitches to get through the sixth inning. Dude he's brainless.

For someone who's in college, you certainly lack a bit of common sense. After the first week and we came off that series against the Natties we were being called the best staff in the majors, etc. Quit bitching about stupid nonsense because I doubt the pitchers are gonna just crap themselves because some mooktard on ESPN says it's bad for them.
