July 24, 200323 yr I'm just saying he would be an awsome closer. Probably up there with Gagne and Smoltz. Anyone agree?
July 24, 200323 yr no no no no no no no no no, WE HAVE TWO CLOSERS!!!!! PENNY IS A STARTER AND A GOOD ONE AND WILL JUST GET BETTER, jeezums
July 24, 200323 yr I'm not asking if the marlins should do it. Just asking if you think Penny would be an amazing closer or not.
July 24, 200323 yr People still think Adam dunn wont Pan out (well on this forum) This man will be a Star soon and he is only 23... he will improve his average overtime...
July 24, 200323 yr People still think Adam dunn wont Pan out (well on this forum) This man will be a Star soon and he is only 23... he will improve his average overtime... wrong thread.
July 24, 200323 yr Author People still think Adam dunn wont Pan out (well on this forum) This man will be a Star soon and he is only 23... he will improve his average overtime... Wasn't he an all-star LAST year? Penny would be an awsome closer. Gagne 100x worse than him as a starter. Don't you mean Gagne was 100x worse than Penny as a starter? Gagne was a horrible starter. Penny is solid.
July 24, 200323 yr QUOTE (DownRodeo @ Jul 24 2003, 4:34 PM) I really hope Penny is traded for quality players before the entire league realizes he's not that good. If the whole league knows he's not good, why would they give us quality for him? Contradiction. Take some reading comprehension courses or something. I said we should trade him for quality players BEFORE the entire league realizes he's not that good. Meaning there are obviously teams out there who still think he's good, and we should trade him before Penny's horrible performances convince them otherwise.
July 24, 200323 yr Author Take some reading comprehension courses or something. I said we should trade him for quality players BEFORE the entire league realizes he's not that good. Meaning there are obviously teams out there who still think he's good, and we should trade him before Penny's horrible performances convince them otherwise. Before they find out he's bad? Again, because he's SUCH a bad pitcher! I mean C'MON! You were probably praising the guy for being so great over his past two starts. How come I didn't hear any critisim of Josh Beckett after Chicago? He came off a GREAT outing against Atlanta and then BLEW. Brad's coming off a GREAT outing and didn't even do as bad as Josh did, and he's already being hung! You're a complete fool to think Brad Penny is a bad pitcher. A FOOL. BTW: I'm in the 99th percentile for Reading F-CAT...
July 24, 200323 yr uh oh, things are gonna get heated here, i wish we could win every day, then we wouldnt fight as much.....come guys, this round is on me :cheers :beer , this bowl is on me too... :pimp :rasta lets get along now, we are all fish fans here
July 24, 200323 yr Before they find out he's bad? Again, because he's SUCH a bad pitcher! So a 4.44 ERA for a starter (who plays half his games in one of the best pitcher parks in baseball) is good? I mean C'MON! You were probably praising the guy for being so great over his past two starts. No. I wasn't. I didn't even think he was that good in his start before last. How come I didn't hear any critisim of Josh Beckett after Chicago? Because I don't criticize players for one or two poor games. It takes about two seasons of mediocrity (which Penny is now approaching) and no signs of improvement for me to get down on a player. You're a complete fool to think Brad Penny is a bad pitcher. A FOOL What evidence have you provided to suggest he's anything more than mediocre? A couple of good outings? BTW: I'm in the 99th percentile for Reading F-CAT... Wow, I'm so impressed. It's a good thing they didn't have a section on "contradictions".
July 24, 200323 yr Author Because I don't criticize players for one or two poor games. It takes about two seasons of mediocrity (which Penny is now approaching) and no signs of improvement for me to get down on a player. Oh, and Beckett has been such a Pedro Martinez like pitcher while he's been in the Majors... What evidence have you provided to suggest he's anything more than mediocre? A couple of good outings? A 95+ fastball and a 12-6 curve. That's what.
July 24, 200323 yr Guys, this was just a hypothetical idea of Penny in the pen. I just made the situation if we hadn't gotten Urbina. If we have Urbina, we should let him close. he is a closer with experience, Looper doesn't have as much experience. That simple, stop wishing for more until you use what you have.
July 24, 200323 yr Beckett problem is he's health thats it. So yea Beckett could become a pedro if he's healthy for a full year.

July 24, 200323 yr Oh, and Beckett has been such a Pedro Martinez like pitcher while he's been in the Majors... Oh yes, good analogy (are analogies on the FCAT). Like there are any pitchers in baseball like Pedro Martinez. Beckett has now pitched 192 innings in the majors, and he has a career ERA of 3.56. Let's take a look at some pitchers with similar ERAs for their career: Mike Mussina (3.53 ERA) Tom Glavine (3.43 ERA) Mark Mulder (3.83 ERA) Roy Halladay (3.96 ERA) Kerry Wood (3.62 ERA) Matt Morris (3.31 ERA) Oh yeah, Beckett also has more strikeouts than innnings pitched for his career. Oh yeah, he's done all this before the age of 24. I'm not penciling him into the Hall Of Fame, but you can't start a career much better than Beckett has. A 95+ fastball and a 12-6 curve. That's what. Oh yes, quite impressive. I know Penny finds his 95+ fastball impressive when he turns to stare at the radar. Too bad he's more concerned with how fast he can bring it than with actually learning how to pitch.
July 24, 200323 yr Author Oh yeah, Beckett also has more strikeouts than innnings pitched for his career. I'm usually the one who brings that up all the time... He's gonna be dominant, and that's the telling stat. BUT, he has yet to consistantly win.
