April 21, 200521 yr I still remember when I started this thread supportin' Enc: http://www.marlinbaseball.com/forums/index...topic=37678&hl= Im not saying hes gonna be a .300 hitter the whole year, but hes gonna be a definite improvement from last year. Keep it up Enc. :mischief
April 21, 200521 yr lolol I thought I must have missed something at tonight's game when I read this Sun-Sentinel headline and Steve Wine's AP game report. Encarnacion hits grand slam to help Marlins win By STEVEN WINE AP Sports Writer Posted April 20 2005, 10:20 PM EDT MIAMI -- Juan Encarnacion homered and drove in four runs to help the Florida Marlins win their rematch with Aaron Heilman by beating the New York Mets 9-2 Wednesday night. Heilman (1-2), who pitched an improbable one-hit shutout against Florida last Friday, gave up 11 hits and left after four innings trailing 7-0. The Mets managed just four hits one night after hitting a team-record seven homers at Philadelphia. Josh Beckett (3-1) allowed four hits and two runs in seven innings. His ERA rose to 1.00, and Florida's team ERA climbed to 1.88, still best in the major leagues. The Marlins totaled a season-high 15 hits and won their fourth in a row. They've outscored opponents 47-4 in their six home victories. Encarnacion, who has two grand slams this season, batted with the bases loaded for the third time this year in the sixth and singled home a run. He also had an RBI single in the third and a two-run homer, his third, in the fourth. Teammate Miguel Cabrera had three hits and scored twice. Backup catcher Matt Treanor added a two-run double. The only starters failing to get a hit off Heilman were Luis Castillo, who had the lone hit against the right-hander in New York, and Beckett. Heilman's career record fell to 4-12. On the road he's 1-7 with an ERA of 7.82. Beckett's streak of 19 consecutive scoreless innings at home this season ended in the fifth when Victor Diaz hit a 430-foot RBI triple. Diaz scored on Jose Reyes' groundout. Cabrera singled home a run in the first, then ran through a stop sign to score the Marlins' second run in the third. He doubled and scored on a single by Encarnacion, ignoring a signal from coach Jeff Cox to stop at third. Mike Lowell then singled, and Alex Gonzalez singled home a run. Treanor's double -- Florida's fifth consecutive hit -- made it 5-0. Cabrera singled off the scoreboard in the fourth, and Encarnacion followed with a homer. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/baseball/marlins/
April 21, 200521 yr LOL :lol I guess they're so used to saying Encarnacion hit a grand slam that they inadvertantly put that in after noticing he had 4 RBI and a HR. :lol
April 21, 200521 yr Enc is showing great patience and getting himself into hitter's counts often. He's leading the team in RBIs, runs, total bases, HRs, doubles and OPS. He is essentially tied with Delgado with an OBP of .417. Nice start to the season. :thumbup
April 21, 200521 yr The fact that Enc has sucked, received undue gifts for looking like a ballplayer and probably won't be a Marlin past this year makes it easy not to get swept up in his accomplishments this year. But he has improved. He's making better contact with the long forceful swing we always knew he had. I'm glad he has chosen a year when he was with the Marlins to do this. 749056 undue gift? Is not his fault that Conine got injured during the offseason (on non baseball related activities) and wasn't ready. I rather see Enc out there, which so far is providing the right offensive and defensive balance. There is no way Conine will match Enc Defense on RF. 749076 1. The undue gifts have been coming his way his entire career. In playing time and large contracts. Why? Can't say for certain, but those tools that have never been developed into consistent skills might have something to do with it. 2. It's rightfield defense. It's like a pitcher's hitting ability. That said, go Enc and go Marlins.

April 21, 200521 yr There was alot of Enc hate going on during the off-season, but hes proved himself worthy. You really cant blame the fans for not being too keen on him. Hes doing great now, and thats what counts. It is the beggining of the season, but hopefully the future holds something great for Enc and his numbers.
