April 29, 200519 yr Yahoo! Sports Game Preview A.J. Burnett will try to continue the Florida Marlins' run of brilliant pitching when he takes the mound for the opener of a three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. Rain and snow washed out the final two games of Florida's series at Colorado, but the Marlins are hoping the bad weather won't cool off the major league's hottest pitching staff. Florida leads the majors in ERA (2.25), shutouts (4), hits allowed (139), runs allowed (53), opponents batting average (.215) and complete games (5). Burnett, almost two years removed from major arm surgery, has given the Marlins another dominant starter at the front end of their rotation. The hard-throwing right hander is 2-1 with a 2.40 ERA in four starts, not allowing more than two earned runs in any outing while tossing two complete games. He gave up two runs and four hits over six innings, striking out a season-high 13, in Florida's 4-2 victory over Cincinnati on Friday, but did not receive a decision. The Phillies will counter with left-hander Randy Wolf, who was bested by Burnett and the Marlins in a 8-2 loss on April 12. After allowing five runs and seven hits in six innings against Florida, Wolf fell to 2-11 with a 5.76 ERA in his career against the Marlins. No big league team has beaten him more often. ``I'm confident that one day it will turn in my favor,'' Wolf said. ``It has more to do with me than it does them. I'm beating myself. If I make good pitches, we win.'' The Phillies two of three at Washington after dropping four of their previous five games.
