Posted May 9, 200520 yr Here's one reason right here: The Chicago Tribune, the #1 local "news" paper here, had these for headlines on it's front page of the sports section: CUBS POINTING IN RIGHT DIRECTION (with a pic of Zambrano pointing to the sky) SOMBER STREAK (with a pic of an injured Gregg Zaun) One problem here: The White Sox are 24-7 and have won 8 games in a row. The Cubs are 12-17 (or somewhere very close) and yesterday was their first win in 8 games. Somebody explain to me how this is fair. I know i'm a Cubs hater, but there is no reasoning here except the Tribune is backpeddling and trying to keep their product looking good and ours bad, even if there is no ground for them to stand on right now.
May 9, 200520 yr The team with more history and tradition will always control a two team market...Yankees control the NY market, Cubs control the Chicago market, DOdgers control the LA Market, Giants control the Bay Area market
May 9, 200520 yr The Cubs have more fans, and in turn by more papers. So why wouldnt a paper do what it needs to do to sell?
May 9, 200520 yr Author The Cubs have more fans, and in turn by more papers. So why wouldnt a paper do what it needs to do to sell? 767753 Umm because these headlines are 100 percent lies? The Cubs are still screwed, and no Sox fans are going to lose sleep from a 24-7 record.
May 9, 200520 yr What the hell does it matter what the headlines say? Last time I remembered The Chicago Tribune doesnt pitch or hit against the Sox nor does it effect that your are first in your division or that the Cubs are tanking. The White Sox are without a doubt one of the most boring teams in the majors. They have a long WS drought, bland uniforms, no stars, a cookie cutter stadium, and are not really known for anything besides the Black Sox scandal. Those are the main reasons why this team doesnt get the coverage or press it 'deserves'. You constantly want 'respect'. You did this with Illinois basketball. All the pumping up of the media gives you is bandwagoners. You should like the fact that you are a real fan and this is your team, not the national media or Chicago media darling. Dont ever bitch about the coverage the Red Sox, Yankees, and Cubs get when it is that very coverage that you long for.
May 9, 200520 yr Not getting respect by the media is such a great motivator for any team.. my hawkeyes have used it as motivation for the last couple years.
May 9, 200520 yr Doesn't the Tribune own the Cubs? That might have a little something to do with it...

Oh, and those fans attacking the first base coach, that was pretty cool too. Dude, don't worry about "not getting respect"...look at the Sox's record and quit having an inferiority complex towards a team that hasn't won the series since 1912 or whenever it was.
May 9, 200520 yr Author The headlines don't matter, that's not my point. If they want to bury us on page 128, go right ahead. If headlines were my problem, I'd have a thread like this EVERY DAY. My problem is when a paper says the Sox are sad at 24-7, and the Cubs are looking up at 13-17. That's both ridiculous and not fair, and if it wasn't for the fact that people look to torch me on here consistently, people would agree with me.

EXCEPT the last sentence, the reason this year i have whined about the coverage the Yanks and Cubs are getting is because (at least right now) THEY SUCK!!! I haven't said a word about Red Sox coverage this year either, just about Yanks/Red Sox coverage, because games in April mean nothing, regardless of who's playing.
May 9, 200520 yr doesnt the headline "Somber Streak" refer to the fact that you guys are winning BUT Greg Zaun got seriously injured yesterday afternoon? I dont think they are implying you guys are sad at 24-7

May 10, 200520 yr Completely 100% off topic, but I finally got an Orioles hat with the cartoon bird on it.
May 10, 200520 yr Completely 100% off topic, but I finally got an Orioles hat with the cartoon bird on it. 768084 That has nothing to do with anything. Like everyone else said, the Sox should just take a look at the standings right now and leave it at that...the Cubs will always rule in Chicago. BTW, Craig I'm going to the D-Rays - Sox game tomorrow night, who's pitching for the Sox? Garcia is on the mound this evening.

I've wanted that %#$^# hat for about 5 years and I finally got, my life finally has purpose.

Even if we win the next 2, this series is a failure. Any more losses, and it's a disaster. At least the Twins lost tonight. And yes, it's Hendrickson and Contreras.

May 10, 200520 yr Same thing happens in NY. Yankees will always get more attention than Mets when both teams are playing.
May 10, 200520 yr I feel your pain....that's why I switched allegiances from the scrubs to the Sox. This has been going on since the mid 70s. I can't stand the scrubs! GO SOX!
May 11, 200520 yr You guys lost to the Rays again. Maybe the Tribune Company knew something. 769670 This is the start of the end for the White Sox...the Twins are pulling it together...
