May 13, 200521 yr Tonite I spoke with a good friend of mine who is is a lobbist up in Tallahassee and he told me that there was talk of a special session for not only some of the bills not passed last week but also for the Marlins stadium. He stated if this happens they would only consider the money for the Marlins stadium and not for all the other sports ventures/groups who wnated tax money. I know this is not guaranteed but maybe there is some hope afterall. Thanks, Dr Guava
May 13, 200521 yr Special session is possible, but not likely unless someone sues the State over the Slots Amendment voted in last November or the class size amendment.
May 13, 200521 yr in the marlins mailbag the article said something about a special session i'll find it... As the state showed, business is business. I don't know if the Marlins will stay in South Florida or go, but I feel they will do what makes the most business sense for them. The team appears to be working behind the scenes with Miami officials to secure the final piece of funding. And who knows, maybe the state will call a special session and revisit the matter.. does that not seem a little... out there writing for a team that can't have media leaks?? i thought it was kinda funny when i read it.
May 13, 200521 yr I'll believe it when Moneyball becomes American...or when I see it, whichever comes first.

May 13, 200521 yr I believe the special session has to do with the slots. The Marlins and the city official are trying to get the stadium bill heard also...but its iffy
May 13, 200521 yr Going to try to put this subject back on topic because I believe the OP may be onto something. I posted this in the Manny Diaz thread but I feel it also belongs here. I wrote to the Mayor. Here is my email to him and his reply. His reply leads me to believe that it's not over with the schumcks in Tally. Dear Mayor Diaz, I wanted to write and let you know how much I appreciate what your doing to keep the Marlins in Florida. Although I live in the Orlando area, I am a huge Marlins fan. My husband and I drive down several times a year, get a hotel room and catch a series. We also attend many spring training games. We also pay for satellite TV just so we can watch since there is no local programming up here for the Marlins. I did write my local Senator when you were battling up in Tallahassee, to let him know we support the tax rebate. I did find out recently that he did support it but I guess that ship has sailed. I search the internet papers daily to see if there is any good news. I truly hope that something can get done. I would hate to lose our lovable Fish. By the way, there are quite a few of us up here that are huge fans. Again, thank you for everything you are doing! Miami Should Be proud to have you as their Mayor. Sincerely, XXXXXX Lake Mary, Florida His Reply Thank you so much for your kind words of encouragement. I will continue to fight to keep our Fish where they belong. Keep the faith. It would be extremely helpful if you and your friends contact your Rep. and Senator again at the appropriate time. Stay tuned. Manny Now maybe I am reading between the lines, but why would he still want us to contact our Senators?
