June 1, 200519 yr If they play hockey, and there is no way to watch it, does it really exist? 791569[/snapback] If basketball doesn't play next year, and you can't watch the NBA, will you shut up and stop trolling in hockey threads?

They dont have a TV deal, or at least a legitimate one.

And third of all, its called actually getting up off your butt and going to a game. What a concept.

Thats like 14 games.... :lol :lol :lol And what about the people who dont live near their team or the arena? They are screwed? MLS will probably pass the NHL within three years.

June 1, 200519 yr Where does the NHL go from here? The league was unpopular to begin with, and now has lost fans and it's TV deal is a joke It will take quite a while to recover from this
June 1, 200519 yr The NHL will get a cable deal -- if its with ESPN or not is the question. NBA did fine without ESPN for several years -- the NHL will do the same. I've heard Spike may put a bid but thats just hearsay. As far as the deal is concerned...I'll believe it when I see Jokinen lining up for the faceoff on opening night.

Your post is like MLB losing their TV deal with ESPN and then someone saying nobody will ever be able to watch the Marlins on TV -- ridiculous. Since when was ESPN the ONLY place to watch sports? Every NHL team has local and regional TV deals with channels like FSN, Altitude, MSG, NESN, YES, etc. so everyone will always be able to watch hockey. Every Rangers fan will be able to watch the Rangers on TV, every Panthers fan will be able to watch the Panthers on TV, absolutely nothing will be different with ESPN not being there except we'll miss out on a few bandwagon matchups like Wins and Avs.

June 1, 200519 yr Author I remember during the Olympics NBC expanded its hockey coverage to CNBC and MSNBC, maybe there's a way they would do that if they signed the NHL? Also, HDnet, the Mark Cuban owned HD-channel that is playing old NHL games, is probably a possiblilty to pick up games.
June 1, 200519 yr HDNet had NHL productions and is expected to continue that once play resumes, but it isn't "official" yet. HDNet is an HD only network. http://www.hd.net/ They regularly air NHL, MLS, NASCAR Grand National Series Racing, and Mavericks Basketball in HD. Edit: I found an article (click here for it) that says HDNet and the NHL had a multi-year deal.

June 2, 200519 yr Hopefully this madness will finally get worked out and hockey returns. I'm jonesin' for a little bit of the Coaches Corner with Don Cherry.

June 4, 200519 yr You are right though, I cant even remember the last time the panthers made it to espn. Maybe espn like 2 or 3 years ago. It would be so funny if the nba went on strike so all the nhl bashers would have to change their tune.

Talk about major karmic retribution. :mischief The hockey gods will set aside a tremendous punishment to the NBA for their fans mistreatment of the greatest sport in the world. (Along with baseball, that is)
June 8, 200519 yr Author Now the cap as FINALLY been agreed to, I read that UFA status is the main thing being worked on next.
