MESA AN OPTION

The Marlins, still looking for bullpen help, can have Pirates closer Jose Mesa -- for a price.

Mesa, 39, who has 17 saves this season, told The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette he would be open to a deal if it is to an East Coast team that would use him as its closer and would exercise his $4 million option for 2006.

Please no....we don't need another shaky arm.

Theres about 3 arms on the Pirates I would rather have than him

Gonzalez and Perez for sure....

no mesa, please. thanks.

mesa really wouldnt be too bad, but we cant take a chance on him, one is because of his age and we could get much better people other than him

He's not exactly a lock to do well in our stadium.

He's not really fond of it

So not only do we have to give something up for him, we have to make him our closer and pay him 4 million dollars next year? Yeah, right. Funny.

Mesa? Yuk -- please God, no.

Gonzalez would be perfect -- probably the best lefty specialist in all of baseball.

BS. He's blown so many damn games this year.

but we dont need him in the closing roll, he would do good in middle relief

Yeah, I just watched him blow one last night--though he did come on in a tough spot. Damon's been hitting real well all year.

Why would he?

we need bullpen help badly. Mecir sucks, pretty much all we have in the bullpen right now is Jones. The rest of them cant get it done, plain and simple.

We cant wait for AA, we cant wait for spunny. We need some bullpen help and big time. It might cost alot for prospects but we need this seriously.

Why does Mecir suck?

4.07 era, 10 walks, 26 hits within 24.1 Innings pitched

The on base percentage against would be somewhere about .300 which is terrible for a relief pitcher.

His whip is also a 1.48 not too good. But the basics of it is he isnt what he was advertised.

We should of resigned seanez this offseason, but oh wells.

We can wait for JP, Lowell, Leiter and everyone else. But we can't wait on Mota and the bullpen???

No thanks.

No, no way. We don't need a closer, we have Jones. Don't think we need a closer just because he messed up yesterday, it happens.

We should let someone in our division get him so they can suffer with him. I wish the Nationals would go for him, but they'd be one of the last teams to go for him.

Closers as we all know need to be as perfect as possible, and take a look at his ERA this year--4.39. That is not an ERA of a closer, sorry.

You can see how he's been pitching in his record also, 0-5. Closers don't have so many losses, especially with no wins and at this point in the season.

And not only has his production been horrible lately, but I HATE his attitude, and I hate him as a person. I wouldn't want him on our team even if he was pitching good.

we need a set up man, and a good strong lefty in the pen. But Jones isnt a problem unless we are somehow picking up lidge to replace him. Keep him where he is at.

Lefties are batting .152 against him with a 0.94 WHIP (10.2 IP 5 H 17 SO) -- I'd say he's doing just fine against lefties, wouldn't you?

He wants to be a closer, and he's not going to face 3 lefties everytime in the 9th inning. If he would pitch that good against righties then it would be a different story. But since he would only come on our team to be our closer and not to just face a lefty or 2 in the 7th or 8th inning, then we shouldn't get him.
