Posted June 28, 200519 yr First off, I wish we'd offer AJ a long term deal now and see if he's interested. If he's set on testing FA, I don't see him coming back. I wouldn't mind trading him if we can't get a legit bat. With all the rumors of the Rangers not interested in signing Mark Teixeira to a long term deal because of Boras, I'd see if they're interested in AJ. They have offense to spare and need another big time pitcher to help out Rogers. Maybe they'd take AJ/Willingham for Teixeira. If we could come up with a deal with them, trade Lowell to the Dodgers for whatever prospects we can get. We can't afford Lowell with his production level. Then see if we could turn those prospects into a deal to get Redman from Pitt. I'd love to go after Zito, but I don't think Beane will trade him. 1. Pierre 2. Castillo 3. Cabrera 4. Delgado 5. Teixeira (LF/RF) 6. Lo Duca 7. Enc/Conine 8. Gonzo 1. Beckett 2. Willis 3. Redman 4. Moehler 5. Leiter/Olson/Valdez
June 28, 200519 yr LOL they arent trading Texeria. He is a hundred thousands times better then AJ. Sorry, but he is gonna be the next puljos. It would be giving up cabrera to get him. He is the same caliber of player.
June 28, 200519 yr Trades don't happen like that, unless prefaced by that voice that says "EA Sports."
June 28, 200519 yr LOL If they traded Tex for AJ then we'd take it in a heartbeat. But you don't give up a talented guy like that for a soon-to-be free agent (AJ). The Orioles will probably give us the best deal. Daniel Cabrera will be the real deal. I like that trade.
June 28, 200519 yr You think its more likely that Texas will trade Texeira than for Oakland to trade Zito? :plain
June 28, 200519 yr Moehler, Leiter, and Valdez for Teixeira, plug Olsen in the rotation, then do a huge ass run for Barry Zito and acquire Danny Baez by trading somebody and there is our playoff run. EDIT: :plain
June 28, 200519 yr Good pitching is more valuable than good hitting - much more valuable. The difference between the other available hitters that don't require giving away a great pitcher, and the best hitter, are not that great in terms of the effect on your win-loss record. The difference between a pitcher of AJ's caliber and the replacement you would get is HUGE. And yes, this analysis is based upon what he should win if the bullpen performs adequately, not on his actual record, since we are projecting the future. Having an AJ should add more to your team's win total than having Pujols or Texeira or ARod. Anyone who would trade him straight up for any hitter is being foolish.
June 28, 200519 yr just a rumor quoted from floridamarlins.com: MIAMI -- With the July 31 trade deadline coming into focus, rumors involving potential free agents are starting to rise. A.J. Burnett, coming off a two-hit, complete-game shutout on Sunday at Tampa Bay, found himself answering questions Monday about speculation that he could be moved. According to baseball analyst Ken Rosenthal of The Sporting News, the Marlins have engaged in preliminary talks with Baltimore in a deal that could involve Burnett for either starters Daniel Cabrera or Hayden Penn, reliever Jorge Julio and outfielder Admin Bigbie. Juan Encarnacion could factor into the deal. Orioles scout Bruce Kison, who lives in Bradenton, Fla., was on hand to watch Burnett on Sunday at Tropicana Field. Being involved in trade talks is nothing new for Burnett, who found himself in rumors during the Winter Meetings last December in Anaheim. At the time, Burnett was speculated in a deal with the Yankees for Javier Vazquez. "I'm always on the block," Burnett said. Burnett said he had no idea about the Baltimore rumor until he heard Monday morning from his wife, Karen. "Hopefully, I'm going to stay here," Burnett said. "When we start hitting and pitching and everything comes together, it's going to be a scary rally. Hopefully, it leads into October." A power pitcher with a 100-mph fastball, Burnett is a front-line starter who would be an ace on numerous clubs. General manager Admin Beinfest did not confirm anything is in the works with Burnett, but did say: "Certainly in the division we're not out of it. And certainly in the Wild Card, we're not out of it. We're looking for the offense to perform consistently. And we're continuing to assess. We believe that we're in it. Whatever moves, if any that are coming, we'll take them one by one and see how they will help the club." At this stage, it is unlikely the right-hander would be dealt because the Marlins feel very much in the playoff race. Even though Burnett may depart through free agency after the season, the Marlins have shown in the past that they are willing to take that risk if it means a chance to reach the playoffs now. A year ago, they watched Carl Pavano set a franchise record with 18 wins, and he made the All-Star Game. After the season, Pavano signed as a free agent with the Yankees. The Marlins are a club that will take the compensatory draft picks for losing a type-A free agent. A source told MLB.com that at least one other team was told the Marlins are not planning on dealing Burnett as long as they feel in the race, unless they are swept away with the value brought in return. Manager Jack McKeon said, "Rumors get tossed around. I don't think there is anything to it."
June 28, 200519 yr Author Teixeira will not be with the Rangers long term. Yall will see in a couple of years. Kenny Rogers just broke his hand. If they want to compete with the Angels, they'll need better pitching. As for video games, I haven't played a video game in a long, long time. I'll leave that to some of you kids.
June 28, 200519 yr Teixera is way better than burnett. Just put it this way, he is younger than burnett and already shed the "potential" thing. He hit 38 homers last season and should hit well over 40 this season.
June 28, 200519 yr I highly doubt the Rangers will send Teixera over here, too much talent to give up. Plus they arent going to dismantle that offense they have even though they do need a starting pitcher.
June 28, 200519 yr You have a better chance of doing Blaylock and a RP for AJ and Lowell then getting Tex. It would give them a good defensive 3B and someone could hit in their small little bity park. Give us a consistent bat along with relief pitching. I have no clue of the salaries though or signed for terms. : shrugs: or soriano is another better option. But, like I said, I doubt you would see him going to texas.
June 28, 200519 yr NN has a point -- ever since the A-Rod fiasco, Texas has vowed to never deal with Boras again. It makes the Teixiera rumors inevitable. That being said, I think we're still a year away from hearing Teixeira trade talk. I believe hes a free agent after next season...even then, theyd need to get more than an impending free agent in return.

But, like I said, I doubt you would see him going to texas. 829578 Texas's biggest weakness has been their bullpen. Cordero is the only dependable arm and even he has been erratic at times. Blalock - for - Burnett makes alot of sense for both sides -- but only if Texas could re-sign AJ long term. If they want Lowell, they could have him, but I'd be willing to bet they'd probably just rather move Teixeira back to his natural position (3B) and let Mench/Dellucci play first short term and Adrian Gonzalez take over next year. We're going to have a tough time finding a taker for Lowell the way he's swinging the bat.
June 28, 200519 yr if they got close to a deal like for blaylock, I would then say let them talk to Aj's agent about an extension to his current contract. : shrugs: but that is just me
June 28, 200519 yr To me it seems that the trade isn't that good. Why would we deal AJ which is one of our best pitcher for other pitchers who have bad ERA's were trying to improve our pitching not making it worst. And Bigbie in my eyes has no number near Encarnacions. If this trade is done it will be so horrible.
June 28, 200519 yr Author NN has a point -- ever since the A-Rod fiasco, Texas has vowed to never deal with Boras again. It makes the Teixiera rumors inevitable. That being said, I think we're still a year away from hearing Teixeira trade talk. I believe hes a free agent after next season...even then, theyd need to get more than an impending free agent in return. 829584 At least someone has a clue about Texas' situation. Most of the writers that are close to the Rangers have reported Teixeira won't be in Texas once he is eligible to become a FA. He is going to want Pujols level money and Texas doesn't want to deal with Boras representing a high level FA after dealing with him before (ARod/Park/etc.) and the price he wanted for Beltran last summer. If Texas is serious about this year (Soriano likely won't be back next year), they need pitching. They were already thin at SP before Rogers broke his hand. I think they'd be willing to make a deal.
June 28, 200519 yr Teixiera is still abry eligible after this year according to things I have read, so I don't think they are looking to jettison him yet. Next year will be the year they want to get rid of him. Do they want to give up one of their best players a year early for a guy who is going to demand money come the end of this year and might leave? And even come next year I don't know if they will trade him if things are going good, because they have a built in replacement for him once he does leave, if ever, Adrian Gonzalez. As far as trading Lowell, he has about zero value right now because of that contract of his. And if we have to pay a large portion of his contract just to move him for minimal value, whats the point? Lowell won't bring in any blue chips unless we pay for him completely, and maaaybe then, but when you fall of like he has teams are not jumping at the bit. They are 3 games out of the Wild Card after a bad month, I don't think they want to be trading one of their sluggers yet. And as far as Texas saying they won't deal with Boras again, didn't we say something similar?
June 28, 200519 yr Er, guys.... our chances of getting Teixeira for AJ are about zero. Unless we throw in Willis or Cabrera too, and those two are probably the most untradeable folks on the team.
June 28, 200519 yr Author so why would we go after Tex? it's not like we are fans of Boras 829669 To win a championship this year. We're likely going to get draft picks for AJ. We'd end up with draft picks if we traded for Teixeira and he left after that. Throw in Vargas or Tank if they want a pitching prospect. We'll have a lot of pitching in the minors after this latest draft.
