Posted July 2, 200519 yr The Marlins played SMALL BALL!!!! THANK GOD!! lol. Jp had a couple of stolen bases, Gonzalez stole a couple of bases, Luis had 2 sacrifice hits, Juan Encarnacion showed his speed and got on via a bunt. Marlins did a great job doing the things they did in 2003 so well. -They played great defense - The Delgado Double play where he purposely dropped the ball in the inflield and the 5-3 Double play with the bases loaded on the pitch from De Los Santos. - Manufactured Runs - No homers today. We were able to get on base with infield hits, stole bases, use sacrifce hits to get runners into Scoring Position and get the key base hits we didn't get earlier in the season Well Timed Runs - We finally got the lead early in the game and after the Mets had that rally, we immediately came back and took the league back! Great Pitching - Moe finally got some run support and pitched well. Id like to see the Marlins stick with Santos in the 7th, Mota in the 8th and Jones in the 9th. We made pitches when we needed to and let our great defense make some big Double Plays. I hope this is one of those game that the team can remember all season. I finally saw a little bit of that "spark" I had said the Marlins might have lost earlier in the season. I know its just 1 game against a .500 hundred team, but the team is finally playing better!! :thumbup :thumbup
July 2, 200519 yr This is certainly not the first time they have had great pitching, great defense, stolen bases leading to manifactured runs this season. Although I agree, hopefully they can keep building on this. Even though we lost yesterday, we scored 6 runs. We have scored at least that in the last 4 games.
July 2, 200519 yr All I can say is, Encarnacion is on FIRE. If we trade him, I will be forever pissed. We NEED him. It is not worth the gamble to give him up for ANYTHING we may think we need.
July 2, 200519 yr They showed emotion. Valerio de los Santos jumped like ten feet in the air when Delgado caught the ball to complete the double play.
July 2, 200519 yr I can't believe I slept through the game. That is what I get for staying up late the night before I have to work early in the morning. I just took the longest nap of my life. With D-Train on the mound tomorrow, I feel confident that we can win this series.

Usually we get great pitching but can't score any runs. Or we go on an offensive explosion in a game when we dont need it or had previoulsy scored 4 runs in our last 2 games. This is one of the first times where we have done ALL of these things in one game.

They may have lost last night but they kept on fighting until the end coming back time and time again. I feel like that wouldn't have happened a week ago. Today they come right back and give Moehler some support after he coughs up the lead. That has yet to happen this year. I like what I see.
July 2, 200519 yr Tomorrow, we may be 5 games over .500 for the first time in a little while. I hope D-Train has his stuff ready.

July 2, 200519 yr Small ball is incredibly easy with hulking Mike Piazza behind the plate! Run Marlins! Run!

July 2, 200519 yr After last night's game, they came out like gangbusters and were determined the get this one today. I haven't seen that particular spark out of this team all season when they lose the previous night that they are determined to pick up the next game. Really great to see :thumbup

There have been many positives over the past several games. Even last night when Lowell and AJ meltdown lost the game there were other positives. Let's see if this continues for the next week or so before we declare ourselves on the path back. One thing is for sure the team is playing with greater confidence and the dugout out appears a bit more relaxed.
July 3, 200519 yr btw, I felt we bunted way too much. Using Castillo to bunt JP on the 1st inning? JP can steal off Piazza all night with his eyes closed. Giving up an out, and removing the bat from Castillo's hands. Castillo is one of the most hotest bat in baseball, at the moment. Then we move Enc to 2nd, Sacrificing Easley? That's the worst move I seen Jack do in a long time. All they had to do was load the bases and pitch to Mota. Again, Enc has the speed to steel off Piazza.

Thursday's win was nice, and Jp did get a couple of steals, but the Marlins had a couple of homers and the bullpen gave up some runs. Besides, although I love the win, it was pretty obvious the Braves had last nights games on there mind, especially with the rain delay and the fact Cox and Estrada got ejected so quickly. Today's game was a well earned small ball-type game.
July 3, 200519 yr Uh.... Yes, we stole bases, but we did not play a smallball game. And we've had great pitching all year. And the defense, although a step down from 2004, has been solidly above average. Plus we were facing the Mets.

What else does 4 stolen bases, 2 sacrifice hits, 2 bunts, no homers, no doubles, and 3 Two-out RBI singles describe. That is surely a small ball type game!
July 4, 200519 yr Their approach when they came to the plate, what pitches they were swinging at, where they swung at. No hit and run attempts (which is sorely lost). Very few bases taken on outfielders. Maybe they lucked into a small ball game, but that was not their attempt. Maybe in the post-May 2003 era that's the best we can hope for.
July 4, 200519 yr we have lost only 1 game this year when scoring 6 or more runs. We need to get on a roll and it looks like we could be finding our spark. If we can pull off two big series here going into the all star break that would be great. I said before we would do 7-3 over our last 10. With the way the nats are playing we need to be 9-1 I think.
July 4, 200519 yr if we sweep the brewers i belive this will be the turning point of the season even better if the braves get swept and nats too we'll be more inspired.
