We don't need a trade.

Hi I'm new here and wanted to introduce myself to everyone. I've been looking around these boards for a few weeks now and can't believe how many people are so positive that we need a trade.

Look at our team, go down the batting order and tell me one player (besides Lowell-whom is slowly rising- and Pierre-whom is quickly rising-) that doesn't have good numbers. What we are is inconsistent. We should be scoring 4-5 runs per game with our offense (and I mean actually scoring them, not 0 one night and then 9 the next.)

The moral in our clubhouse is gone. Last night I couldn't sleep and I was awake at 4 AM so I decided to watch the Marlins' World Series DVD, man its a completely different team. We're depressing to watch, back then, we we're having fun.

I miss it how every single player would jump out of their seats whenever we even got a hit, and everyone jumping out of the clubhouse to congratulate the guy who just scored. That was a team.

In my opinion, we can blame it on McKeon, a manager who didn't even remember Matt Perisho's name when he told him he was being sent down.

If the front office seriously wants to contend, don't trade players, just get a new manager.

first of all welcome to the boards!

I agree and disagree. I agree that we don't see the team getting pumped up when getting a hit, although I have seen it a bit from luis and JP. We do need a bit more of that.

I disagree about getting rid of Mckeon, but that's just my own opinion. I feel Jack needs to do something to motivate the guys. Maybe playing back that world series DVD from 03' and showing them that there is something to play for. Lets play clips of the 97' and 03' WS teams throughout the clubhouse and just maybe we could light a fire under the guys.

I feel we can't allow leiter to be in the rotation any longer that's my major concern.

i don't think massive trades are the answer.....I think a weekend away from baseball for some and a shrewd move would take care of business.

Well, I hate to be the downer on this thread. But after watching or listening to every game over the first half, I think we are just a .500 team. I go to about 50 games a year and you can see alot that you can't on TV. Like guys reactions on the way back to the dug out. This team has a serious problem in that they seem to feel sorry for themselves. Our rotation is shaky now with the inconsistency of Beckett. Willis and Burnett can't win us a division or a wild card. We need starts from Josh, and what has he shown us that says he will make those needed starts? Our bullpen, although decent for the last week, is not a playoff caliber bullpen. Trust me, I live and die with this team, just ask my wife. I have eternal hope, but this team needs to show me more than they have. For the time, for my own sanity, I have this team as a .500 squad and nothing more. Imagine if Juan E. and Gonzo were having a normal season, we might be below .500 right now.

I hope we can do it, via trade or via the guys we have playing with some fire. Quit blaming Jack and hit the damn ball.

PS- F..k every Cub fan that was at the game over the weekend.

I really don't get your post here. Your saying the moral in clubhouse is gone, we have an inconsistent offense, yet we shouldn't try to trade any players???? Managers have an important job yes, but there job in my opinion seems a little over rated. With that said I do agree we should fire him and Bill Robinson to shake things up. Send a message. THis isn't completely their fault, but things have to be shaken up. The Front Office DOES have to make a move and you said it yourself, every player besides Lowell and maybe Pierre are having good years. People say, "O this team will improve..", How? Cabrera and Delgado can only hit so many home runs, and Encarnacion and Alex are having their best years as Marlins. Some times rosters just don't work, for what ever reason. The Front Office needs to get rid of AJ. HE WILL NOT BE HERE NEXT YEAR! A lot of contending teams need a SP, and an OF like Encarnacion. We could get a good package of 2 or 3 players that would include a good bat and possibly a SP who could still help us this year. Front Office must make a move.

I agree with that part where you said that we don't need to trade players. What I'm thinking is bring up some players from our triple-A league like Dillon and Willingham, and actual give them a few starts.

Willingham is out 2 months and Dillon isn't the answer.

man such a magical season. brings a tear to my eye everytime i see JP jump into the air after that last out.

its funny...i personally think the energy and youthfulness left this club with Ozzie Guillen.

as funny as it might sound i think that man had more influence then most think.

Man you guys are saying it yourselves, we even have some hitters who are overcahieving. Who are you going to trade and for whom? Trade Encarnacion, for who? A big time prime time hitter like Delgado? There is nothing you can do to better the offense outside of trading Lowell and Pierre, which I think would be stupid. And trading Burnett I would say is not an option, and resigning him is a must. The guy has SICK stuff and looks like he's getting his act together, don't mess up the rotation, heck I still wish we had Penny and Redman.

Sure Jack used to be cute in '03, but even his track record would tell you that he is the type of manager who comes in takes over a team in mid-season rather than taking them all year.

Some coaches a team just doesn't like playing for (Bowa,) and Jack is one of them.

I hope the Marlins don't trade anyone. I suppose they could get lucky and trade for someone who has a lot of attitude and who will rouse the team to play well. But trades are often useless when morale is so low!! I don't understand why so many on this board are so much in denial they think trade is some kind of magic potion to revive the Marlins!!

Make no changes in the players... maybe some management changes?

850993[/snapback]

:D :p  :cool

It makes me crazy seeing so many posts about TRADES. Look at the mess DePodesta made of the Dodgers. It's like slave owners...get rid of this ole slave, get rid of this lazy one, and dump this bad actor...and get us some fresh meat and everything will be just hunky dorey peachy creamy fine.

I don't blame ball players for getting depressed...and let's get one thing right, the Marlins all look like they need to be infused with happyzac...fans are all chomping for the trading block and not doing what I though fans did which is supporting the TEAM.

:banghead :confused

To me the TEAM equals the PLAYERS equals the TEAM. I admit I don't like seeing Leiter or the bullpen give away runs and I don't like seeing the limp offese either. But how on earth do you start dismantling a team and claim to be a fan?? I sure don't get it at all..

I kinda hope everyone who is trade happy get's their wish and then let's see if the TEAM makes a turnaround!! :thumbdown

Everyone knows this team is underachieving. This team is capable of doing many great things. They obviously just need a good kick in the ace. As to what that kick is made up of, I have no idea. I feel really loyal to McKeon, but who knows... maybe him and Robinson are partially to blame. I am not saying they are. I am just saying it is one of a few possibilities.

1) Thank you for saying that about Ozzie Guillen. Anyone that has seen my posts about firing Jack have seen that I felt that the only difference between them now and 2003, in particular their offensive strategy, has been Guillen. In 2003, Jack came in ands pretty much didn't interfere with what Guillen did with the team's aggressiveness. Since the Spring of 2004 Jack installed those brakes on the baserunners and the offense has been inconsistent ever since. This year, it has been a joke as among the many offensive problems are the mistakes on the basepaths. Now, let's look at careers: Jack usually comes in and his first year is his best year; Bill Robinson was fired by the Mets for the same questions about his work as the batting coach and baserunning mistakes when he was at 1B too; Ozzie Guillen---as a coach (Braves & Marlins) he has been involved with an aggressive style and now as a manager, his White Sox are aggressive. Also, of note, he influenced the FO in Chicago to go get a base stealer to lead off (Posednik) and to get a player that does more than hit HRs (Jermaine Dye), and get a solid veteran catcher to help the pitchers (Pierzynski). Hmmm...look at those Sox go. Look how dull our offense is as it waits around for a 3-run homer.

2) Anyone that actually goes to the games can clearly see that this team is mentally done. I hate to say this, but when I saw the fish lose the final game of that series against the Cubs, I saw a team that seems to be on the verge of an internal explosion. Everytime Leiter struggled with the strike zone, the defense just shrugged as if they couldn't get into a rythm and then of course Delgado made an error which lead to Al's departure. Also, there were many heads behind Leiter shaking from side to side as they looked down and seemed to be waiting for a pitching change. I saw the same thing when Nate Bump was in. This team doesn't need any major trades except for some bullpen tweaking in the form of a closer that is a 100% guarantee because that is the only TRUE weak spot when you look at the talent on this team. This team needs a managerial change. Let me see a new guy in there before players are traded. This team isn't going anywhere, no matter who wears the uniforms and is in the lineup. There is just so much mentally going wrong and it seems to point to the entire coaching staff except for Wiley.

3) What kind of suggestion is that watch the 2003 championship DVD? Don't you think that the players have copies at home and watch it occasionally or at least their kids get them to take a glance any time that they think of watching it? Don't you think that they remember that season everytime they look at their rings or the banner in the RF gap?

4) Simply put; the fish looked done in this last series. We are at the All-Star Break; a managerial change should be done now. Let's see how the team plays under someone else for the next couple of weeks, then make the necessary changes to improve this team for either this year or next year. Those of you Jack supporters don't realize something, Jack is up there in age; he isn't going to be managing much longer no matter how good or bad a job he does. The Marlins need to start looking for a successor anyway. To think that none of this would be an issue if they had just given the job to Ozzie Guillen in the first place. They had a losing record when they made the change in 2003; at the time, what did they have to lose by giving a rookie a chance. Turns out that the rookie was probably the reason that they turned it around and won it all.

5) I follow the motion towards the Cub fans at the [email protected]#K YOU ALL!!!

Some fans support Jack because he was the skip in 03, he "did" the turn around. Maybe so, and maybe his job is long done.

I see a guy who is making muddled pitching choices, holding back runners, not pumping up the team, and who sometimes seems to just diss players without motivating them to do as well as they can do...in short I do not see a manager who is leading a talented crew to play aggressive ball. ( a la Ozzie)

The ONLY TRADES I can support are the manager, the hitting coach and the 3rd base coach. If you keep these 3 guys and start playing musical chairs with the players the Marlins may as well hang it all up. If you do nothing at all, the Marlins will have a hard time overcoming these 3 obstacles. :mischief2

Well said PositiveHype. On 560 yesterday, Mandich was talking about how he was in San Diego when McKeon was there. He said that McKeon's "magic" just seems to wear off after the first year. I gotta admit that I was on the trade AJ bandwagon and heck why not even throw a Juan or a Lowel in there. But since I've been reading on these forums and since I've been watching the team show glimpses of their potential, I really believe this team has the goods to win right now, it just needs some firey leadership. I think a new manager could be the necessary change.

So who?

good post man and im glad someone can share the same feelings as me. i thought i sounded rediculous to my buddies when we watch games and all i complain about is the lack of movement on the basepaths. the 2005 chicago white sox are a spitting image of the 2003 marlins and its all ozzie guillens doing.

i agree a change is necessary but not with player personnel. something needs to be done with the coaching staff. there are only so many times you can say "Things will start to click soon"

i think jacks time is due...s*** hit the fan when players were making anonymous comments few weeks ago.
