I have a question that may have been answered on another thread. Is Hermida coming up this year during call-ups or are the Marlins going to wait until he plays winter ball and bring him fresh to Spring Training? Also, do the fish intend to resign Encarnacion (if he's not traded) or to pursue another OF so they can bring Cabrera to 3B after this season. It's getting more obvious that Lowell will finish this year at 3B unless something major changes in trade talks. What's going on with the future of the OF?

The only ones who can answer the question about Hermida is the Marlins front office and they might not even know yet.

 

I doubt Enc is re-signed but stranger things have happened.

I would love for them to go after a young MLB OF with alot of upside, but I don't know if we have enough prospects or can trade a guy like Lowell. Obviously a team like Cincinatti would be hard to make a deal with if we pursued Willy Mo Pena or a team like Detroit with Munroe. Although, I wonder of Dombrowski wouldn't mind having Lowell again. However, we'd probably have to take on Higginson's contract for that to happen. Or maybe Lew Ford with Minnesota.

The interesting part of the discussion was the fact that Cabrera has spent most of his pro stint in the outfield and that in a division like our own it's important to have a strong corner like Lowell.

The kid might get a call up at the end of the year. But, he will be starting next year within RF. Enc is gonna be too expensive for us really and honestly. His good season (in a contract year wow what a concept), has priced him out of our range pretty much easily.

 

On the other hand Hermida will be ready by then for sure and should be a great cheap addition for the team. If he sputters we have aguila to place out there in case.

Connie should retire by then and Harris too by then.

 

I wouldnt be surprised if Lowell picks up his stats that after the season they move him then in a package. But, till then I wouldnt worry of it. Yes the Tigers would be a good home for Mikey. They cant get FA to sign there for the life of them (who really wants to live in detriot). They could use him in their line up for the leadership and Drobrowski with pudge most likely would welcome him.

 

I would love to personally ship lowell to them for Verlander. But, that is a dream deal

The question would be: Are the Marlins better with Lowell at 3B and Cabrera at LF or with Cabrera at 3B and another LF that can put up about 15-20 HRs, 70+ RBIs, & .260+ AVG while giving you solid defense? Tough question. I prefer the second option.

 

Another thought is, if the Marlins trade AJ, try to see if you can get Chacin and Alex Rios. Rios is a potential star and won't make the big $$$ for a few years. Maybe a deal like AJ Burnett, Logan "going, going, gone" Kensing, and Josh Willingham for Gustavo Chacin, Alex Rios, and a RP like Justin Speier, Vinnie Chulk, or Jason Frasor? Or you can even see if they would give up Miguel Batista in that sort of deal instead of the other RPs.

I'm guessing Hermida comes up during September, then will be the front-runner for the RF job next year, with the Fish maybe bringing in a cheap vet to provide some competition.

Its a nice line up for sure, but I really think it lacks pop. I mean we've been complaining about our lack of long balls this year, if that was our line up last year then i'm pretty sure we'd be near the very bottom of the majors in long balls. We ca't expect Hermida to come up and do what Cabs did for us, Hermida hasin't totally developed as a power hitter yet and it may take him awhile to get going. The pitching staff would be ok, but i'd hope that we could resign Moehler, he deserves an extension.

I'm with you there. Chances are probably less than 5%. Let him play his eye balls out on a contract year and get the draft picks and move on

Exactly... As of right now, I'd expect Hermida to come up and hit along the line of .275, 15 HR, 70 RBI, 35-40 doubles. All of that with the hope that those doubles are eventually going to turn into home runs like they did (at one point) with Mike Lowell.

I think a lot depends on how good or bad a shape the Marlins are in come September. Hermida will have to be protected this winter so IMO they should call him up just to get all the firsts (e.g. hit, at bat, RBI, etc...) out of the way. As for what the OF will look like next year well the FO are the only ones with that answer. They have several questions to answer themselves. Do they keep Pierre or Enc or either. Can they move Lowell? By moving two of those guys one could open a spot for Hermida and Willingham. Stay tuned it will be interesting any way it shapes up.

It is why my favorite trade is Lowell and AJ for Sheffield. Works for both teams as far as I see , but what do I know.

i dont think hermida is ready to be called up I would wait till spring training and see how things workout.
