Red Sox talking to Marlins about Manny?

Featured Replies

One curiousity.. Our only problem right now is our bullpen. How does this help that?

The bullpen's been pretty solid as of late. Mecir, 6-fingers, Mota, Jones, and Vargas are all keepers. If we can just get Riedling off the team for good it will be fine.

The fact that it has been reported that the Red Sox are talking to the Marlins does NOT mean the Marlins are talking to the Red Sox.

So the Red Sox are talking to themselves? Sportingnews Radio reported last night that the Marlins were "interested" in Ramirez -- so the talks were probably instigated from our side, not theirs.

The Red Sox had a front-office executive in attendance at Friday's game.

One reason the team hasn't said anything to Burnett is because the Marlins still might trade him. Burnett is being pursued by the Red Sox. On Friday, Bill Lajoie, Boston's assistant general manager, was at Dolphins Stadium.

Could mean something. Maybe not in a Manny deal, but something with Burnett could still be going on.

nah - i'd guess that the red sox called pretty much every team that had a player on the trading block who they were interested in.

Manny Ramirez wants out of Boston, but he apparently won't get his wish. The proposed three-team deal that would've sent Ramirez to the Mets likely won't happen, reports Jayson Stark.

According to the New York Daily News, the Rays' insistence on receiving Hanley Ramirez, if they're not getting Lastings Milledge, is killing the Manny Ramirez deal.

Mets owner Fred Wilpon signed off today on absorbing the entire $64 million remaining on Manny Ramirez?s contract, the Daily News has learned. Under the terms of the deal, which is still near death at this point, the Red Sox would have received Mike Cameron, Aaron Heilman and Lastings Milledge from the Mets, and Aubrey Huff from the Devil Rays. The Mets and Rays would have swapped Julio Lugo and Yusmeiro Petit. Danys Baez seems to be out of the mix now. The Red Sox would have sent additional prospects to the Rays, but Hanley apparently was off-limits. Jul. 30 - 4:31 pm et
