August 12, 200520 yr You just gotta feel bad for him, he was spectacular tonight and ends up with a no decision because of Valerio De Los Perisho. I'm sure some of you will try and blame Jack, as usual, but of course Jack wasn't going to go to Mota again after what happened last night, ahem.
August 12, 200520 yr I thought he picked well too, he looked great out there tonight. It was depressing to watch his hard work go down the drain and you could feel the collective frustration when Moehler was replaced. I'm really surprised Admin B. has let this go on this long without going out and getting someone with half (figure of speech) the NL on waivers this time of the year. Jack's hands are really tied as long as he has to count on Messenger and VDLS, and one game like last night (5 inning stint by the starter) throws the bullpen into disarray. I suspect they FO's big problem is that their two biggest bargaining chips are on the DL, Beinfest has to go out and get a quality arm and soon.
August 12, 200520 yr nice of the offense to show up for him again 899485 I know what you're saying Ramp, and it does seem that way but Webb was virtually unhittable tonight, and that's more a tip of the hat to him than it is the fault of the offense.
August 12, 200520 yr poor BM and poor Jack. everybody he put in there screw up... pretty soon our starting pitchers will have to try to complete the game or at least get through 7 or 8 innings and pass to Todd Jones.
August 12, 200520 yr This team pretty much can not win a one run game unless the starter goes at least 8 innings.
August 12, 200520 yr We're in a tough situation tomorrow. Put Delgado back in even if he isn't 100% and risk injury? Try to get Enc back in the lineup? We could definitely use the star players back but if anything happens to them, well lets not talk about that.
August 12, 200520 yr What is it about Moehler that makes the team so 'blah' in his starts? Either we don't hit, or we don't play defense behind him. The team just looks flat whenever he starts, and if you were at the game tonight, it just seemed like there was this massive guilloteen hanging over the team. I'm not saying it's Moehler's doing, but it's peaked my interest as to why the team is so collectively flat in his starts...
August 12, 200520 yr I think the team gets tired of producing runs once his spot in the rotation comes around. I guess they think that Brian Moehler starts are a day off or something.
August 12, 200520 yr I think Brandon Webb was just pitching a great game. He's having a great year. When you face a pitcher having a great year like that, and you've got a lead into the 8th, good teams have to put them away. Valerio has poor stats vs lefties, but Jack was in a jam, his bullpen was spent. Can't blame Jack, can't blame the offense.

August 12, 200520 yr I felt like we had the game won until VDLS gave up the first HR, then I knew we were at least detined for extra innings
August 12, 200520 yr This team is just seems to be missing the resiliency to come from behind. They had it in 2003. If you watch the Cardinals or Braves, you'll see they have it. They "find ways to win." They always believe they can do it, no matter the circumstances. In 2003, players would pick up their pitchers if they gave up late runs. I haven't seen that yet this, or last, year from the Marlins.
August 12, 200520 yr Freakin' De "Lose" Santos!! I know we didn't score but one run, but sometimes you have to win games like that. I can't believe Moehler hasn't come out in the papers swinging. I tip my hat to him for keeping a level head, but you have to believe he is fuming.
August 12, 200520 yr I feel bad for him too, but I know that he's not going to let getting the no decision bring him down. Remember, this whole season Moehler has been having outings where he has been worthy of getting the win, but has gotten the no decision. What matters to him is that he gave the team a chance to win the game. Sure, if he were to be getting more run support he would have over 10 wins and the media would be on him, and he would get a higher salary. But he did the job just as good as all the other starters, even though people have lower expectations from him.
August 12, 200520 yr ok VDS gave up the tying run but aren't you guys forgetting that Alfonseca gave up the 2-run homer to loose the game for us. I mean why does he get a free pass?

I mean why does he get a free pass? 899794 He doesn't- VDLS is getting the main crap because he did the exact same thing LAST time he pitched and he hasn't proved he can be a decent reliever like Alfie has.
August 12, 200520 yr atleast 5 of his losses should be wins putting him at a studly 11-4 record but the Offense never shows when he pitches
August 13, 200520 yr To add a little bit, I don't recall Moehler having a terrible game this year. He always at least keeps the team in it. It seems that he hardly ever gets close ball/strike calls which make a big difference in close games.
