August 9, 200322 yr There aren't many teams that have a better 1-5 rotation right now than what we've got. They're a combined 54-31. ERA's are 2.56, 2.86, 3.29, 4.07, 4.35 Oakland with Harden up & pitching the way he is certainly qualifies them, they can roll out Zito, Mulder, Hudson, Harden, Lilly. Yanks have Mussina, Wells, Petit, Clemens, Weaver... You could argue LA with Kevin Brown, Perez, Nomo, Ishii, Ashby? Anyone else?
August 9, 200322 yr Cant really compare us to an AL team without adjusting for the DH, but we have the 2nd best staff in the NL from top to bottom. If we had Burnett, theres no question this is the best staff in the NL and maybe the ML's. Can we afford to keep it intact next season?

Redman is the only starter due a big raise. Burnett's salary is being covered by our team insurance policy on him, and will cost the same amount next year. Nobody but Mark will make a considerable amount more.

If I'm wrong my apologies, but I'm fairly confident that neither AJ nor anyone is insured for 2003.

And Penny/Pavano will not get big raises because they're not putting up big stats. Both have ERA's over 4, ect. Redman will big the only one with a somewhat big raise.
August 9, 200322 yr San Francisco's staff is very good. The front 4 is good if not better than our front 4. They've got Schmidt, Ponson, Williams, and Rueter (who is currently injured though). We have a better 5th starter though in my opinion.

Could they afford to keep Urbina? Nah, he'd probably get closer money in the market, and of course, we wouldn't be able to afford that. Having two closers is a luxury, a luxury we probably won't have next year.
