September 17, 200520 yr I'm sure they'll be plenty of pissing and moaning and whining going on on this board. Today was a painful loss. A fielding breakdown in the ninth. But I blame the field that we're playing on. It's like cement with green paint, with seams here and there. Bad bounces can theoretically happen to both teams equally on a field like this. Today the Marlins got all the bad breaks. . . The fact is that the first "error" by Luis was a ball that skidded off the runway we call an infield. On our normal field that's a routine double play ball...and we probably go on to win the game. Period. After that 2 seeing eye texas league popups. Normally caught by the Marlins but certainly not routine. The ball skidding under Conine's glove also skidded off a seam in the cement infield. Things snowballed and the wheels did come off.
September 17, 200520 yr Speaking of Conine's glove, I am so sick of Jack taking Carlos out of the games at the end for defensive reasons - let's just say they tied the game 2-2 (instead of the insanity we witnessed) - how the hell does Jack think we are going to be able to get a winning run? Note to McKeon: Cabrera and DELGADO are the only ones on your team who can get you runs right now. You NEED his offense. His defense is FINE - leave him in, dammit. Typical case of his 'over-managing'
September 17, 200520 yr Most of the "fans" on here have proven themselves to be morons today(and many days prior when theyve given up only to come crawling back), so they are incapable of using logic.
September 17, 200520 yr Don't you mean the excuse thread? Anyway, they were tough plays but when you don't score runs, and let the other team hang around, you better be able to field the baseball late in the game. The mental mistakes are what get me, like the communication problems between Luis and JP.
September 17, 200520 yr I agree that the field is horrendous. It also affected the Phillies' fielding. This is terrible.
September 17, 200520 yr hhahaha....... yep this board is gonna be pist for the next 24 hours..... i dont feel so bad.... im in a bit of a "awe"....... but im a dolphins fan as well..... so i seen some crazy s*** be4......... if it makes you guys feel better the only worse thing i can think about is when the indians came back on the mariners back in 02 down like 15 runs in that game
September 17, 200520 yr Logically speaking, all of those plays should've been made. I did not see a bad hop on the Castillo play.
September 17, 200520 yr but im a dolphins fan as well..... so i seen some crazy s*** be4......... 951025[/snapback] lol, i'm with ya.
September 17, 200520 yr Its hard to logically explain allowing 10 runs in an inning, other than $H!T happens. At this point I want 4 more wins so they can finish above .500, is this too much to ask of the bullpen?

Unless you're going to blame Jones for giving up 1 run with runners on 1st and 3rd and 0 out. Which you shouldn't. Of course that didn't stop others when other relievers ahve done it earlier this year.
September 17, 200520 yr Since this is the logical thread, I'll be logical even though some of my tagalongs (the Godfather & Dogfish) don't think that I am. Well, I personally will add that there are 13 games left and we're not out of it. Today was just a disaster. I hate it just as bad as anyone, but I won't give up even though there is no doubt that it was a huge loss. As for the defense and the infield point; I won't attest every blunder to the field, but I will say that this is why someone needs to step up with a nice check that doesn't come from tax money intended for the school system. The Marlins need their own stadium and their owner or a friend/associate/investor of his needs to write that check. We're not the billionaires; they are. Back to the on the field stuff: What can be said? "It ain't over 'til it's over" and we still have a few games before we realistically fall into that category. Yes, many of us are tired of seeing the same crap over and over and over again, but don't give up. Go Marlins!!! :thumbup I really wish that the cult of Jack supporters would stay unseen on days like this. You don't see Jack bashers maming too many comments on days when the fish look great. It's just insane to make statements on days when something in that day's game can make you look wrong.
September 17, 200520 yr The field was fine. Everything was exactly the same except for some patches of grass in right field. Stop being a nancy and blaming it on the field.

And dont think that all of us agree with every move, lineup either but at the same time, this team has not performed from management down to the players.
September 18, 200520 yr I think the guys can bounce back and stay in this race until the very end. I believe, although earlier today I was extremely negative. How do you not become negative after seeing what happened today? 10 runs in the ninth inning on account of 4 errors and one misplayed ball? That's terrible. Anyhow, I look forward to having a better manager next season... bring on Tony Pena or Davey Johnson. Jack's has managed this team poorly. An above average manager has this team with 7-9 more wins and leading in the NL East.
September 18, 200520 yr I think generally speaking Jack is a better manager than either Davey or Tony. However the team needs the change.
