Posted September 19, 200519 yr We are currently 6 games behind the Atlanta Braves, and we have 6 games left against the Braves. We have actually gone 6-0 against a team this year (devil rays ) and if we play with the sense of urgency like tonight, I think we could do it. Alright, I'm f*cking dreaming but stranger things have happened... Go Fish!

September 19, 200519 yr The funny thing is.......... I can see us catching the Braves and not the Astros for the WC. :lol
September 19, 200519 yr As long as the number of games we play against them is equal to or greater than the size of the Atlanta lead, it's doable.
September 19, 200519 yr I don't see the Braves falling apart enough to let a 6 game lead crumble. We'll make it close though as we need to do well against them to get the WC. They are going to sweat a little, but I still see them maintaining at least a 3 game lead on us.
September 19, 200519 yr Let's sweep the Mets while the Phillies and Braves battle it out and then see where we stand. :thumbup
September 19, 200519 yr There is nothing wrong with being optomistic. It's entirely possible. It's not likely, but it's possible. There are enough games left, and we don't have the luxury of gaining any ground on Houston thru direct play.
September 19, 200519 yr Let's sweep the Mets while the Phillies and Braves battle it out and then see where we stand. :thumbup 953360 If we gain 2 games in this next series, then we could go 5-1 against Atl and be tied.
September 19, 200519 yr I was thinking about this before. It'd be in our power to catch the Braves, something we can't say about Houston. Who knows...BUt ya, after this Mets series, let's see where we stand.
September 19, 200519 yr We can sweep the Braves, problem is, with that, we may catch the Braves, give the Phillies the division and miss the WC because the Astros stay hot. Though I do dislike the braves...

Though I do dislike the braves... 953461 If we catch the Braves, then we've won enough games to pass the Phillies, and probably the 'Stros.

Astros have a 3 game advantage on us right now (loss column), and as long as they only lose 2 more games than us the rest of the way, they get the WC.
September 19, 200519 yr OK, this is absolutely impossible, but if we go 10-2 (like so many here are predicting), and assuming our two losses come to the Braves, we're guaranteed to make up 2 games and then be left 4 games out while we play 1.000 baseball (8-0). All it takes is the Braves to play .500 while we go on this "tear" that so many are predicting. So, really, I guess my point is that with all the predictions about the next 4 series, and remembering that we still have 6 to play against Atlanta, we're just as likely to catch the Braves as we are the Wild Card, as long as we go 10-2. To manipulate this further, to call the Braves uncatchable is to call the season over.
September 19, 200519 yr remember we only have to go 10-2 if the astros/phillies keep it up. the astros play 9 more games on the road (2 against the cards). they could definitely collapse. and the braves, im not going to bank on sweeping 6 games from them because its the braves and 3 of those are in turner field and we all know how well we play there. but hey i wont rule it out, anything is possible. but i think we can pull off 10-2. we may be inconsistent but we have the needed components to do this. and if we can pull it together now, way better late then never.

September 19, 200519 yr There's just one problem, it would be impossible for the Braves to not win the division. The Marlins can't possibly the Brave's deal with the devil. It's wildcard (which is highly unlikely) or bust.
September 19, 200519 yr LOL @ "only" having to win 10 out of 12. How many times have we done that this year?
September 19, 200519 yr I can't see this team, injuries and all, winning 10 of 12. Hopefully we can win eight and see the Astros slump. 8 wins should be enough to catch the Phillies.
September 19, 200519 yr LOL @ "only" having to win 10 out of 12. How many times have we done that this year? 953809 Twice I believe. And last year, we won 11 games in a row in the thick of the WC race if you remember correctly. I can't see this team, injuries and all, winning 10 of 12. Hopefully we can win eight and see the Astros slump. 8 wins should be enough to catch the Phillies. 953824 Not a chance. 8-4 won't do it. That'd mean the Stros would have to go 5-7 just for us to tie. 3 of 3 from Mets (very possible) 2 of 3 from ATL 2 of 3 from WASH 2 of 3 from ATL That would give us 9 more wins, which I think MIGHT be enough. But we'll probably just have to sweep two of the series.

That'd mean the Stros would have to go 5-7 just for us to tie. 953836 You speak as if the Astros aren't going to lose another game for the rest of the year. They've got (I believe) 9 more road games on the schedule, and the Phillies have 6 more road games in a row, and then they end the year with 3 on the road. 8-4 is probably the best to realistically hope for, and it may be enough. Marlins have 6 at home, 6 on the road. Astros have 3 at home, 9 on the road (where they're a wild-card worst 30-42). Phillies are in the same boat, 3 at home, 9 on the road...it's going to be close.
