Gammons on Delgado

Featured Replies

Screw BBTN and Gammons. They barely even metioned the Marlins taking a full game lead in the wild card standings. I hope we can piss off the entire baseball world and make the playoffs. Then Gammons can take his comments and shove them up his ass, and the rest of BBTN will be forced to show Marlins highlights.

yeah thats a shame. peter is more concerned with stirring the pot then talking about the game lead we took. f*** him in the ass :thumbup

Look guys... who are we kidding... Baseball is not about winning... is about making money. Delgado's contract is HEAVILY backloaded. Attendance is awful. Recent news show dimming chances of us getting a new ballpark. I dont think Loria will pull the plug on Delgado just yet, but Gamons does point out a good point.

Everyone is always talking trash about Gammons... the truth is that he knows more about baseball than almost anyone and he is just pointing out the obvious. A team paying $15 mil for a player when they are losing millions and fans dont even show up during playoff race is pretty obvious to me.

I really doubt that Loria will trade Delgado to the Mets.... but lets say the Marlins dont make it to the playoffs.... Loria keeps losing tons of money... and no ballpark... Cant get rid of Lowell in the offseason.... and later on we need to resign Migue....I wouldnt be surprised if this happens in the upcoming years. Trust me.... im a huge Delgado fan... and the last thing I want is to see him go.... but dont rule anything out...

And stop bashing Gammons... the guy is just trying to make a living pointing out the obvious (although a trade to the Mets is unlikely).

OK, so it may be obvious. But this will not happen until the seasons over. Why start the rumor mill swirling now when they are in the thick of a playoff race. He knows his s***, but this was just bad timing. Now, Delgado will have to deal with questions about these comments.

People need to stop watching this show, kurkujan is a moron, gammons is a moron, the rest are morons the only one i think is good is reynolds the rest suck just like in 2003 tim kurkujan saying the marlins wont be able to make the playoffs.

is there more to this then meets the eye? who was it that said someone with serious money is interested in buying the fish? is there any more news regarding that? someone needs to write loria and get this cleared up. i was very pissed before i went to sleep last night at what gammons said.

Joe Rose mentioned this morning on his show that there is a Latin guy with deep pockets that is interested buying and keeping the Marlins here. But that is all rumor mill crap right now.

Tim Kurkjan can toss my salad.

When has the media ever cared at the effect of their reports? Look at the whole Quran flushed down the toilet debacle. Their goal is to be the first to report news, or anything that resembles news.

In the end, it's a waste of bandwidth to be debating this NOW.

When the season is over, whether it be October 3rd (god no !#^&*) or November 1, we'll see how things shake out.

Personally I don't believe for a minute Loria trades away Delgado (and those who think the Fish can control where a player, any player, Delgado included winds up if on the market are only kidding themselves) but I remember when Cliffie (puke) and Dempster and Johnson and Wilson were traded, and in the end the team was improved by those moves. So before we all position ourselves on this, let's see how it plays out.

Isnt their first goal to make up the news? The second to bend the truth to their whim? The third to influence the public to watch so they get more ratings and cash. Finally sell off the scraps in TV time to promote themselves individually and shamelessly to talk radio.

In the end, it's a waste of bandwidth to be debating this NOW.

good points. i just think it would be such a crappy move and make our organization look really bad if we get rid of Delgado after signing him to such a nice contact. the amount of time and effort put into winning the delgado sweepstakes in the offseason was amazing. i know its all about business but its really not fair to Delgado in the longrun. was it Loria that said he answers all emails he gets or was that beinfest? if anyone has there emails i would love to send them an email to find out there thoughts on big mouth gammons

The Marlins can't trade Delgado, not after what Loria has forced season ticket holders into for '06 (an unprecedented mandatory renewal by September 1, in addition to an, on average, 25% price hike, and all this to get the privelege to give the Marlins more of your money for playoff tickets). If he rips the rug out from under the diminutive season ticket holder base, he might as well pack up and leave all together because there won't be a season ticket-holder base for '07.

For that very reason, well among the other nifty one that this owner actually likes winning as opposed to those before him, is why Carlos is going no where. Mike Hampton's salary, as well as Pudge's, was taken into account when Carlos was signed. Study the three contracts, and look at the funny coinkidink on when Carlos' numbers mature and when Hampton and Pudge's run out. These people know what they're doing, and if you think they are just going to get up and deal Carlos to piss off the fan base after a great run that isn't over yet for unproven prospects again (yum, smells like firesale) than you need to go and turn off MVP baseball for a while.

And again, something people don't take into account is the players itself. What message does the Marlins Front Office send to Free Agents they court if Delgado is dealt the year after he is signed? The message is clear - sign a multiyear deal, but you're going to get traded anyways. You might as well chalk up a sign that says "we don't sign longterm," to which free agents will counter with "have fun signing someone else."

Peter Gammons seems to be letting the HOF next to his name get to that Boston brain of his.
