September 14, 200521 yr When BBTN was showing Delgado's clip about his 9 straight 30+ HR seasons they mentioned that the Marlins are talking about trading him after season's end (so says Peter Gammons)?! WTF? Why would the fish trade him and to who?!
September 14, 200521 yr Peter Gammons says (without any sources) that if the Marlins don't make the playoffs they are considering trading Delgado to the Mets. Whatever. Gammons knows nothing. He's a fool.
September 14, 200521 yr Something for Mets fans to get a hard on from. Jeffery Loria won't allow it to happen
September 14, 200521 yr If Gammons is right, and they're trading Carlos at season's end... with Delgado's heavily back-loaded deal... Beinfest managed to get Carlos Delgado on a one-year deal worth $4 million... he's a genius if this is what he was doing the whole time.

September 14, 200521 yr This is not happening. We need to maintain the Cabrera-Delgado combo for all four years of Delgado's contract.

Was Huizenga a genius by selling the whole team back in 98? Look what happened to the fan base. I hope Gammons is talking out of his ass. Carl Everett is right. Peter Gammons is an idiot.
September 14, 200521 yr Trade dead line is over, Gammons should STFU Beinfest and/or Loria wouldn't be even hinting of this happening
September 14, 200521 yr Peter Gammons has really been making some absurd and ridiculous comments lately.
September 14, 200521 yr There's more Mets fans than Marlins fans so: make up a rumor about a Marlins star getting traded to the Mets = increased ratings.
September 14, 200521 yr they just dont want to see the marlins in the postseason and also try to screw up the team's chemistry :thumbdown

If we could get rid of a guy who will be 34 years old next year and yes he is a GREAT ballplayer and we all love him...but he is due alot of money and we are a small market team...but if we could get a Lastings Milledge...who from all accounts is a top prospect and will be a great player (and is cheap for the next 4 years) in return...it would be an amazing move from Beinfest. We would obviously have a huge hole at first though...but I would imagine Lowell or Cabs would be at least equal to Delgado on defense. Damnit though ...I dont feel right even thinking about this or typing this considering how great things are looking the last couple of nights ...but it is a great idea, no doubt. :mischief2 :mischief2 :mischief2
September 14, 200521 yr Marlins won't keep a consistent fan base if they can't hold a high free-agent signing for more than a year....
September 14, 200521 yr Marlins won't keep a consistent fan base if they can't hold a high free-agent signing for more than a year.... 944760 Excuse number 172 - We can't hold a high free agent signing for more then a year. Not true...we win...we(fans) come to the games. It is simple.

Not true...we win...we(fans) come to the games. It is simple. 944762 Oh yeah...where ya been all year? The Marlins can't trade Delgado, not after what Loria has forced season ticket holders into for '06 (an unprecedented mandatory renewal by September 1, in addition to an, on average, 25% price hike, and all this to get the privelege to give the Marlins more of your money for playoff tickets). If he rips the rug out from under the diminutive season ticket holder base, he might as well pack up and leave all together because there won't be a season ticket-holder base for '07.

Like a Lights out Ace, or something else like that.
September 14, 200521 yr Earlier this year, I started a thread suggesting that the Marlins fill the stadium $$ gap by trading Carlos, and freeing his contract money for stadium purposes. I was laughed off at the time, but this idea still has merit. If we could do that, and get 2 MLB-ready prospects, I could go for it, although I would want him out of the NLEast for sure.
September 14, 200521 yr That would be one of the dumber moves of all time by the Marlins. That being said, if you listen to Gammons, it is a comment based off of the small market no stadium discussion - which is valid. If the Marlins make the playoffs and make a good run (regardless of whether they win the World Series), then maybe the stadium deal finally be pushed through and construction starts. The fact that the team only drew 1.8 million would be glossed over. If they miss out on the playoffs, then the financial/stadium issue will become more of a big deal, and the 1.8 million would be used against the Marlins as a reason not to get a stadium, etc. and the tenuous season ticket base will be watching to see if they ditch salaries...
September 14, 200521 yr i hate this guy more and more everyday. why would anyone in the marlins organization leak any kind of info like this in the middle of the playoff hunt. it just doesnt make any sense and its unneeded drama.
September 14, 200521 yr Screw BBTN and Gammons. They barely even metioned the Marlins taking a full game lead in the wild card standings. I hope we can piss off the entire baseball world and make the playoffs. Then Gammons can take his comments and shove them up his ass, and the rest of BBTN will be forced to show Marlins highlights.
