Posted September 20, 200519 yr Let's assume Pettitte is going to get the W in Pittsburgh tonight. If so, then would you agree tonight is a must win. Falling 3 behind with 11 to go would seem insurmountable. Given that, tonight is a must win and we need AJ to finally step up and help this team get to the playoffs.
September 20, 200519 yr considering we're 'scoreboard watching' i would say everygame is a must win and if you don't then you just hope like hell that the others lose.
September 20, 200519 yr Author Here's another way to look at it. If the Pirates pull off the improbable and beat Pettitte tonight, then it would be a damn shame for us not to take advantage getting one game closer.
September 20, 200519 yr we must win all games. 955021[/snapback] We must win all games, and win em with heart.
September 20, 200519 yr Author Some here are saying we need to win 10 of 12 to make it to the playoffs. Our 3 horses, Willis, Beckett and Burnett will pitch 8 more times. That would imply we must win all of their starts and go 2-2 the four times Vargas and Moehler start.

Or big three go 7-1 and Moehler and Vargas go 3-1. Either way, we gotta win a lot. :shifty

September 20, 200519 yr We don't need to start threads saying "is this a must win?" F*ck yeah, it's a must win. EVERY GAME FROM HERE ON OUT IS A MUST WIN(unless we clinch the playoffs or unless we are mathematically out.)
September 20, 200519 yr Author Well, I can just see the posts on this board tonight IF we don't win. Expect to hear the season will be lost. I suppose that does make this a must win.
September 21, 200519 yr well 2 out of 3 is a must. Lost game 1, so gotta win the next 2 or the season's pretty much done with. really disappointing loss tonight.
September 21, 200519 yr The really sad part is, this was a huge momentum game. AJ went out, gave it his all. So did Todd Jones, and the Dragon Slayer (why didn't he pitch the 12th, anyone know?). A win in such a heated game would have been great. Now a loss in the same atmosphere could be tragic. Let's hope this team grows up alot in the next 20 hours because if they keep with the same defeatist mentality I might as well just stop updating the playoff thread.

But you really have to ask yourself can this team go 10-1 the rest of the way? Can they go 9-2? If they can't win games with pitching like tonight consistently, then they'll be doing well to go 6-5 the rest of the way.
September 21, 200519 yr Maybe it's stupidity, but I'm going to watch or listen to all the remaining games. Always do. I'd like to think I'm doing so for a reason and not out of pure stubborness. Excuse me while I cry.
