Posted August 16, 200321 yr I say Luis. I wonder where these guys will go. You can bet that quite a few will want them. I bet Oogy goes to the Yanks. I'd like to see at least one of these sign with the Fish for next year, and I know 2 is probably too much to hope for. Derrek Lee is good, and probably not as expensive as the other two, so I think if one stays, he will be it.
August 16, 200321 yr D Lee isnt a FA. just thoguht id throw that in. dont be shocked if we keep Luis and UUU because they know something special is happening with this team.
August 16, 200321 yr OK first of all Lee isnt a free agent. I don't think he will be traded, until Stokes is ready. His arbitration value is probably not going to jump much, if at all, the way he's playing. Castillo might stay, only if St. Louis is happy with hart or vina and doesnt want to dish out more cash. Urbina, yea it would be nice to dream about him staying and I know he might want to also since he has a nice big house here, but we can't afford him and why would he want to set up here when he can close for some other team for more money? He's already made Theo Epstein look like a jackass, of course some team out there will give him 5 million once again. Too bad we can't.
August 16, 200321 yr i dont know who started this whole Castillo to Stl crap even though in a perfect world he could re unite with Renteria but people IT AINT HAPPENING! the Stl Cardinals are on a VERY strict budget and that was the main reason they couldnt bring in Chuck Finley or make any moves for a pitcher even though the rotation has been injured most of the season. it seems that the Marlins are option 1 for Luis until a team makes a move to free up a starting position or finds $5 million in the sofa.
August 16, 200321 yr thats why I said UNLESS THEY ARE HAPPY with hart (WHO IS CHEAPER) but IF they have the cash, he will be there in a heartbeat.
August 16, 200321 yr they dont have the cash, the only team with payroll flexability this off season is the Padres and they seem very happy with the idea of Khalil Green at SS with Loretta at 2nd and Vazquez backing them both up. I remember earlier in the season people where spreading rumors that both Castillo and Tejada would be with the Pads next season. Money Doesnt Grow On Trees... Its Made Out Of Them.

His arbitration value is probably not going to jump much, if at all, the way he's playing. yeah Lee's arby number will jump unfortunately. he could get around 7 million since he's 5th-year arbitration eligible. Ramp Castillo is a free agent I believe...
August 16, 200321 yr Castillo is a FA I believe. I know Lee is not. Um, how about Pudge on this poll? Imagine how different our team would be this year without Pudge...
August 16, 200321 yr most teams would love to have Luis Castillo on their team. Obviously not for defensive reasons, hes average - but as a division rival fan, I admit Luis Castillo can manufacture runs himself by getting on with a bunt hit or infield single, then steal a few bases. Castillo has said he'd prefer to remain in Florida, but I think the Marlins will have to offer him a more than decent contract while resigning Pudge and showing him they still want to win. Otherwise, I think it is very possible for Luis castillo to sign with the St. Louis Cardinals, reuniting him with Edgar Renteria, since Fernando Vina is a FA after this year and has been injured forever anyway. The Cardinals are using Bo Hart there, and hes hitting over .300, but of course they'd prefer Castillo, and perhaps they could scrape something up from their depleted minor league system along with Hart to deal for another SP.
August 16, 200321 yr most teams would love to have Luis Castillo on their team. Obviously not for defensive reasons, hes average  You know NOTHING about baseball!
August 16, 200321 yr not really... I have MLB extra innings and i watch multiple games at once, scouting different teams for next year's fantasy leagues and articles to write and information to put out that will help someone. Therefore, i think that i scrutinize Luis Castillo a lot closer than most of you do, as his fans, in Florida. Castillo utilizes his speed to get to most balls and has a better than average arm. Although, defensively, i'd rank him in the middle of the pack in terms of second basemans. Now, do i know "NOTHING" about baseball because i'm a phillies fan? Or rather are you unwilling to listen to what anyone else has to say about what they've noted in the past and present?

HE GETS THE PLAYS MADE RIGHT? He is at least above average, most likely excellent defensively. He is part of the most solid infield in baseball....now go back under your rock.
August 16, 200321 yr out of those 3 I think I would most like to keep Castillo. I really think Lee is expendable we can get a cheap replacement that can do the job until Stokes is ready in 2005. I would love to keep Urbina we've seen how important he's been to our bullpen, but I don't know if that will be possible. This strategy of 1 year contracts has put us in a situation where we're going to have to get rid of a few of our best players.

In terms of team defense, the Phillies used to be 2nd in the major leagues, but are now tied for 4th with none other than the marlins (.986) Although, in terms of infield fielding percentage: Phillies: .986 Fld % Infield Marlins: .983 Fld % Infield .003 Fielding Percentage points are a lot, especially deep in the season, it can mean the difference between crucial errors here and there. The 5 phillies above: Lieberthal, Thome, Polanco, Bell and Rollins have made 30 errors this season the 5 marlins above: Lee, Castillo, A-gone, Lowell and I-rod have made 43 errors If Luis Castillo is, "part of the most solid infield in baseball" I shudder to think how good the Phillies are. and, "go back under your rock" - what kind of hospality is that to show to a new guy? If a Marlins guy came over to our site and wasn't being a troll, but rather laying down the right facts, we would respect his opinion and see what he had to say, countering with stats and opinions, rather than an insult.

It doesn't show how many great plays a player has made to save hits, and you ask any baseball expert and they will tell you that Castillo and Gonzalez turn the double play as good as anybody.
August 16, 200321 yr he is the new guy, some respect should be shown. for those of you that went to the Cubs board, remember the pricks they were just because you didnt root for the Cubs? although some deserved it (Bearstud aka Wildcard). do we really want to be like that? although philliered, going out of your way to show how much better youre team is than ours on our board does get annoying

Capefish thinks the the Marlins have the most solid infield in the major leagues, i merely wanted to point out stats, that at least one team is better, that being the phillies. To answer farmer-fran, Castillo and Gonzalez make a good double play duo, and although, you'll hate to hear this, before Polanco moved to third base to make room for Utley at 2nd, Rollins and Polanco were hands down, one of the finest double play combinations in the league, if not the best. I've watched them for all 121 games, most games at the Vet, and they turn the DP in style; very entertaining to watch them excel. I have perused the Cubs boards as well, I am not a registered member there, but I hope you guys have more class than some of their fans do, in the sense of "accomodating newcomers" such as myself. I'm not here to badger any of you or be a troll, but rather, as i do on the Cardinals board, to share my opinions and at the same time respect your own, to get your side of things and see what is happening.
August 16, 200321 yr sorry to disagree with you, but fielding % dont tell the whole story.... castillo and sea bass are in the top 2 or 3 up the middle combos in baseball, and our infield is 2nd to none..... nonetheless, rollins and polanco are a damn good tandem as well
August 16, 200321 yr I believe (with the teal glasses off) that the Marlins infield is the best in the majors. My top reason is that they are healthy (although as of late Lee, Lowell, and Castillo have had some aches and pains) and they play every day basically. They make some incredible plays and play well at home and away. Turf, grass, carpet, etc. they adapt and play well. Polanco and Rollins are pretty good, but they cannot make some of the more athletic DP's the Marlins can turn this season due to Rollins being injured and not 100%.
