AJ Wants To Leave

Featured Replies

How do you know he feeds off the energy in the ballpark? I've never seen him do it... and certainly in big games with big crowds he choked.

I dont "know" per say, but I think a guy who publicly makes alot of comments about fan support and calls it depressing, obviously wants to pitch in a great atmosphere.

I just find it hysterical how a 28 year old with his numbers this season, can catch so much flak.

He pitched many nights before 30,000+ cheering fans during his career and he still choked. And as Jack so aptly put it, once in a while you've got to look in the mirror and admit you're the problem, not the fans, not the mangement, not the organization, you.

Link? Stats? Game Recaps?

Or should I just go on what you say...

And hate to break it to you but 30K in alot of cities isnt sh*t for baseball.

And was his start on September 14th not 'big'? You were more in the race then, then you were today. He went 8 innings, 1 earned.

He lost to Roger Clemens the start before in the game Roger's mom had died...he only gave up 3, but took the loss...big deal.

In New York, Boston, and potentially Baltimore I think he will want it alot more then he ever wanted it in a modifed football stadium in front of sparse crowds.

I think St. Louis seems like one of those places he may live up to his billing. I think we could be a sleeper team to look at him this offseason. I dont think it's outta the blue saying we'd be interested.

Personally I love his stuff if he could ever get it together. I just dont know what the heck his problem is (well mainly because I dont watch all his starts)? He walks too many batters and that stuff right? Well isnt there a way to correct that? :shifty

You guys have so much good starting pitching...leave some for the rest of us starting pitching inept.

I dont think the Cardinals are anything special in SP...

Carpenter is having a great year, but Suppan and Mulders ERAs are both in the high 3s and Morris and Marquis are over 4.

Yeah AJ feeds off the crowd. :plain

Big crowd in Philly- blows a 4-0 game.

Big crowd in Houston- walks Clemens with the bases juiced.

Big crowd in Atlanta- blows 3-0 game.

Im talking about feeding off energy in his home ballpark.

You didnt pick that up?

You do know the 2nd and 3rd runs were courtesy of bases loaded walks to the #8 and #9 hitter right?

The Cards have the best ERA in the majors.

And since when are the 'high 3s' bad?

Would it be scored any differently if Lance Berkman hit a three run shot?

3 runs is 3 runs.

Where ever he goes whether be Toronto or any ball club, he's gonna get hit hard. Because he does not pitch he throws the ball occassionally down the plate or most of the time out of the strikezone. I would probably say that he will be the offseasons biggest dissapointment ahead of time. Who ever signs him is guareenting themselves a place out of the playoffs for many years to come. This guy is done, he is arrogant and does not accept responsibility. He is immature both pitching wise and personally. He needs to be a leader in the clubhouse bring energy and a feeling of the possibility of winning. He plays for a future contract not for the game or team itself. :thumbdown

2.95 ERA 1.20 WHIP .226 OBA

Nope, he pitches just fine in front of sh*tty crowds.

A guy who can't live up to his potential on a contract year is not to be trusted with a big contract. If he can't be motivated by a contract, I don't think the "athmosphere" would do it. btw, he is very touchy. I don't think this guy would trive on a place with a lot of media attention, where he would be second gussed.

I have probably watched AJ pitch more than 50+ times. And the guy doesn't get it, emotions gets to him too easily and he doesn't adjust.

No, but it's another case of AJ not getting it done when it counts.

check his numbers at home, he is usually crap on the road.

It is laughable a few people are making for AJ's mediocrity : "he will thrive in a place with more energy" that was my favorite! the guy has pitched in packed opposing stadiums and come up short so many times it is not funny even pitching in front of 25-30K people in Dolphin Stadium big game pitchers rise to the occasion NO MATTER what the circumstances. AJ is soft and if anyone thinks all of a sudden he is going to become the next great pitcher in spite of what he has done in his previous 6 or 7 year in the pros they are fooling themselves! The guy is 500 pitcher in one of the most pitcher friendly parks in baseball. AJ is soft bottomline always has been always will be! Funny for all his greatness only 12 wins as a career high even the illustrious Darren Oliver aka Marlin for a Day won 14 games in a season . . The guy is a majorleague headache with no heart !

The Cardinals have the best total ERA in the majors, bullpen included, but I dont think they are anywhere near #1 in starting rotation ERA.

I didnt wanna reply to this but that cant be right.. #2 right behind Houston.. 3.57 to 3.47 before today but Suppan had an 8 inning no run game today so that's not included yet.. Which according to numbers it's now 3.54 to 3.46 after including today's games..

That's not anywhere near the #1 starting rotation ERA though? And since is a 3.57 ERA by Suppan 'high 3's'?

Ok.. I didnt mean to turn this topic..

All I said is I thought the Cards could show interest and the reason I think they could..

If players fed off of huge crowds at home the Cubs and Red Sox would have had world titles long ago.

maybe we (Marlins Fan) don't know crap about AJ after watching him pitch for 7 years

Bye bye AJ - I'll even call around for you if you like :call

Now let's start looking for a .500 pitcher with some balls and who actually wins the odd important game instead of racking up the W's when it doesn't matter so much...

Thats the reason he catches so much flak. Its never AJ's fault when something goes wrong. He is always complaining. Would a guy who constantly badmouthed your organiztion be your favorite player? He is a good pitcher who has the potential to be great but he has a terrible attitude.

A

As one of the top power pitchers in the game, Burnett would rank among the most attractive free agents this winter.

When did this happen?

Yeah...few teams wouldnt want a guy who throws in the upper 90s and has a sub 3.5 ERA and nearly 200 K's....

You guys demand too much from the no. 3 starter on your team.

We expected him to be part of a big three that should have carried us to the playoffs. You cant hide the fact that he flat out let the team down in the important stretch. You would never hear this crap from Maddux-Smoltz-Glavine or Hudson-Mulder-Zito back when they were dominating.

We know this the guy is not a winner and his record proves it

The Red Sox are scheduled to win one again in 2102. The Cubs well they're cursed aren't they?

Interesting.

When AJ had won 7 in a row...I never saw anyone calling out his lack of heart and how poor of a pitcher he was. When it comes down to it, those 7 wins are as critical now as they were then.

The guy has just become the personal whiiping boy of the Marlin fan base because he is outspoken and will go and get his money in the off-season lke anyother person in his situation will do.

I am sure he will enjoy moving on to a franchise where he can be appreciated and not berated after everything he does.

Interesting.

Thing is...Willis/Beckett/Burnett doesnt compare to the above.

And you guys dont have the team those 3 did either.

Interesting.

we are just calling his bulls##t

he is the one being outspoken about the fans and the team.

no one is booing him at the ball park, nor we are talking about him every day.
