September 26, 200520 yr If AJ wants to leave, let him go ( Marlins were able to win in '03 without him)...Managerial/coaching changes are coming...if he desn't want to be around for the new crew, so be it...Shows that he is not a team player...Dontrelle managed to win 22 games despite all this "negativity"...Cabrera had one hell of a year in this "negativity"... AJ doesn't stay focused...his baserunning against the Braves was horrible, never watched the base coaches (see Delgado's shot to the wall)...Everytime he gives up a key hit or a walk, he loses control of his pitches... All we ever hear is his "potential"..He has yet to have a huge career year winning 16+ games, he has yet to prove he is a consistent pitcher...He alternates from pitcher to thrower... His stuff when he is on is unhittable, but his inablility to be coached hurts him... He wants a pat on the back after every game? Does he want his hand held and his shoelaces tied too? This article just makes him out to be an overrated baby. I hope the Marlins get a good deal or a good draft pick for him.
September 26, 200520 yr You know, we're out of the race, he makes these statements... I wouldn't even give him that last start. Send him home. And for the record, the issues with AJ have absolutely nothing to do with statistics and absolutely nothing to do with where he is in the rotation. Yeah, he has good numbers for a #3 starter. Good for him. He's about to get paid like a #1. I don't care what his numbers say, the guy meltsdown whenever something doesn't go his way and nothing is ever his fault. And, for the record, I was happy when he was winning 7 in a row, but I still didn't like him and I can't wait for him to be off this team.
September 26, 200520 yr I am not sure if this was mentioned before... If AJ misses next start he will be 1 inning shy of a $50,000 bonus :lol
September 26, 200520 yr I just find it hysterical how a 28 year old with his numbers this season, can catch so much flak. I find it hysterical that a 28 year-old so readily places blame everywhere else but himself. Look, I'm sure it's frustrating when everyone tells you that you've got Cy Young stuff but can't put it all together. But the griping and whining he does... I might expect it coming out of a 22 year-old, but be a man about it for christ sakes. ...and give me a break with the crowd stuff dude. Requiring big crowds to pitch your best?? I mean it's fine to say he prefers playing in front of a packed house, but I sincerely hope he isn't using that an excuse. I mean that's laughable. I will not say that the team will be better off without AJ, but he was most likely going to price himself out of our range anyway, even with his recent performances. I think most of his lashing out is just frustration with the way this season has gone. I think he's wanted to be "the guy" here, the one who can put the team on his back & put his stamp on a playoff drive. He's frustrated and he's not happy, and he's never dealt well with frustration, on the mound or in the papers. For me, the year I'll really remember him for is 2002. He was still raw, but wow it was fun to watch him. Threw like 8 shutouts or something that season. I always said he's a guy I'd pay to watch pitch. Just wish he had a head to match his arm.
September 26, 200520 yr I am not sure if this was mentioned before... If AJ misses next start he will be 1 inning shy of a $50,000 bonus :lol Good. Let's sit him then. No reason to give him a bonus. :lol
September 26, 200520 yr Is there any reason why we as fans should be worried about that dreaded word at the end of the year? F*******
September 26, 200520 yr Wow, this is a huge surprise. :plain We all knew he would be getting out of town as soon as he could.
September 26, 200520 yr As one of the top power pitchers in the game... they should have said "as one of the top FREE AGENT power pitchers... Good bye, and a big thank you to AJ for making great pitchers(of which you are not one) even more unaffordable now. well i cant really blame AJ just the enormous a**hole that's going to pay him 10 mil plus a year. i cant wait,he's gonna start whinning like Pudge has been doing all season.
September 26, 200520 yr Don't let it hit your @$$ on the way out, AJ. All you ever proved here is that you can run your mouth and never back it up.
September 26, 200520 yr A As one of the top power pitchers in the game, Burnett would rank among the most attractive free agents this winter. When did this happen? Yeah...few teams wouldnt want a guy who throws in the upper 90s and has a sub 3.5 ERA and nearly 200 K's.... You guys demand too much from the no. 3 starter on your team. I completely agree. AJ is an incredible power pitcher and few around this place seem to realize this. We needed a scapegoat and so AJ has become the new DLee it seems. Failures are magnified and successes are are ignored. AJ will thrive whereever he ends up and I will miss him.
September 26, 200520 yr AJ is not the scapegoat for this teams misfortunes. I am not read anything in the media to suggest anything like this. Unfortunately though, he is putting himself in this situation.

September 26, 200520 yr Is there any reason why we as fans should be worried about that dreaded word at the end of the year? F******* This is the kind of stuff that bothers me. There has been no mention of a firesale. It was said that "Everyone is available", but that was more than likely just a way of not letting anyone get their hopes up yet. The FO probably has a bunch of savvy and team-improving moves in the works, but it is against rules to contemplate further at this point in the season. The only two people I think are going to be moved are Pierre and Lowell, and the only for sure move is Mikey. But that makes sense with Cabs at 3B and Mikeys expensive contract. Stop trying to ruffle everyones feathers and worry people where there should be none.

Umm.....the owner is losing money every year, a firesale could be a very viable option....I'd like to see you pay the money that he loses every year.

Stop trying to ruffle everyones feathers and worry people where there should be none. That you two are even discussing this as a option bothers me. Players come and go. Often it has nothing to do with the money that is offered. Ballplayers and coaches and scouts and so on are regular people just like you and I. They want to be surrounded by people they trust and like. Loria loves winning. He's shown he'll spend every nickel he has and will alienate business partners just to put out a team on the field he can proud to call his own. Sure, eventually those funds are going to run dry under the current circumstances of the franchise, but you can be damn sure that even on a bargain-basement payroll this administration will always be focused on winning. Not saving money and hoping something good comes in the future as we saw in 1998 or throughout much of the existence of this franchise and other smaller-market teams. They may not always make the best decisions or have a full plan in mind, but you know the effort is there. And that to me is what makes the front office one of the best in the game. They actually care.

But with the mood swings and propencity to worry about any little thing, like this board does, even mentioning "firesale" will ruffle feathers even if you dont mean it in that context. It's better to just leave to word off the boards, as it seems like everyone here looks for any reason they can to fret about what might happen next...theres way too much negativity as it is, no need to add to it.

Maybe word it different, by asking if we will move any big pieces, it gets the point across without actually mentioning a word that is considered worse than any curse is to marlins fans.

September 26, 200520 yr I'm going to miss AJ, I've always liked him, and I can't picture him in another team's uniform. He may have the stuff of a #1, but I still don't believe he should be paid like one. Either way, I expect the Marlins to at least make an offer to him, and give him arbitration.
