October 3, 200520 yr "While I'm at it, let me tell Ozzie Guillen that he did his Wacky Uncle image no favors when he became the first major-league manager in known history to flash a double-fisted choke sign at a mascot -- Slider, employed by the Indians -- and the Jacobs Field fans during a pitching change Sunday. When the Blizzard of Oz wonders why he's not treated like Bobby Cox and Tony La Russa, he should examine the photo and ask if those gentlemen ever would stoop to taunting some poor mope in a suit whose team has just finished fading like, well, Craig Ehlo trying to guard You Know Who." http://www.suntimes.com/output/mariotti/cst-spt-jay03.html
October 3, 200520 yr I don't care what you say Ozzie had to hear about his team choking for the past month, so he was just doing it back. Easy thing, the Indians don't lose 6 out of 7, he doesn't make that gesture.

What are you talking about...do you not get the point? No manager needs to in the MIDDLE OF A GAME turn to a mascot who as undoubtedly with fans, and put up a choke sign in their home ball park. Its a joke and it isnt the way a manager and the face of a ball club needs to act during that situation or at anytime. You just dont do that.
October 3, 200520 yr Ozzie Guillen needs to be fired after this year. Sadly, he won't be, since most of the fans love him, and he signed an extension this spring, but the fact is, the White Sox won 99 games and the AL Central this year DESPITE Ozzie, rather than because of him. His in game managing sucks, he is emotionally unstable, can't control his emotions, and causes all kinds of distractions. We won 99 games this year because Paul Konerko and Jermaine Dye were awesome in the middle of the order (and so was Carl Everett in the first half) Pods and the Gooch were formitable at 1 and 2 in the lineup, and the pitching all around was amazing. Ozzie had NOTHING to do with the White Sox success, and as long as he's the White Sox manager, I will be very worried. It sucks too, if our manager wasn't such a complete idiot, I think the Sox would dethrone Boston, or at least give them a great series. If the White Sox take it 5 or beat Boston, it is just a testament to the team's talent and ability to overcome horrid leadership from it's manager. *end rant* P.S.: I know I WAS a huge Ozzie defender, but after watching the Sox this season and seeing how he handled the last 2 months, I will be glad to admit I am flip flopping on my opinion of him.

Want to know that else you don't do, watch you homerun for 10 minutes before walking around the bases like Manny does. I am not saying what he did is right, but who cares. (sight) your team win 99 games and all you do is rant? common now. Give Guillen some credit
October 3, 200520 yr Take him Felo, or Marlins, or anybody......we will be better off when Ozzie is gone. The on field performance was great this year, but geez, Barry Switzer won an NFL Super Bowl, doesn't mean he was a great NFL coach (although he was a great college coach)....just means he had enough talent at his disposal to overcome his own shortcomings.
October 3, 200520 yr You do know why you have Pods,Iguchi, Dye, AJ, etc. is because of "Ozzieball" don't you?
October 3, 200520 yr Most of my friends who are White Sox fans agree Ozzie couldn't manage his way out of a paper bag.
October 3, 200520 yr We have those guys because of Kenny Williams, who IMO is a VERY good GM and should get the credit for how well this team has done. Kenny is another guy I will admit I am flip flopping on. At first, with some of the stuff he did, I thougt he was crazy. Heck, I was infuriated at the Pods/Lee deal even this offseason. But man, the pitching this team has, and the defense, and some of the hitters even.....the team K Dub has built with only a 75 million payroll is really amazing. Look, here is my point. This team has produced with Ozzie as manager, so yeah he should get credit for that. But Ozzie IMO isn't worth the trouble, the embarassment he has given the organization with his actions, and his lack of class.....and I think we could find a manger that could be successful with this roster WITHOUT all the embarassing actions and lack of emotional control.
October 3, 200520 yr this is not a big deal. he did it to a mascot (not to the fans, coaches or players), and was having fun it is immature? yes

October 3, 200520 yr You do know why you have Pods,Iguchi, Dye, AJ, etc. is because of "Ozzieball" don't you? Exactly. But to me...Ozzie is not a fantastic manager. He really is nothing more than a clubhouse leader. Something managers rarely do. Ozzie does that fantastically, but his on-field tactics are bad. I want him back for years to come, I would rather have a guy who is going to pump you up
October 4, 200520 yr You guies take this stuff too seriously, personally, I think it adds more excitement to the game. I will come out and say that I find it entertaining when Frank Robinson comes out to argue, I actually liked the part back in the Nationals winning run back in June when Frank and the Angels got into an arguement. Guillen got pissed when the angels manager wanted the Nats pitcher to show that his glove's laces were to long and needed to be cut. After refusing, Guillen hit a HR and while running, made the scissors clipping gesture with his fingers to the Anaheim fans. You guies have to think about the entertainment and just having fun watching this stuff. I am pretty sure Ozzie was just trying to have some fun :thumbup
October 4, 200520 yr Lou Piniella is class. Would you rather have him and last place or Guillen and the best record in the AL? That's what I thought. Guillen can do or say whatever he wants. His team wins 99 games and no one will get the hell off his back. He's taken crap ever since the Sox lost it in about August of 2004. It went away, then it started to come back as soon as the lead was down to about 6. Do you have any idea how relieved he was that it was Cleveland choking and not us? Until you've managed a team from a 15 game lead to a 1.5 game lead and then back up to 6, leave him alone. And oh yeah, he is the reason the Sox have the kind of team they have. If he weren't, then why did it take until he got here for the philosophy to change? He's a human being not a god.
October 4, 200520 yr For anyone who is defending Ozzie for this, if your team had collapsed like that and the opposing manager did that in your stadium (even if it's to the mascot, the fans can friggin see it) you'd be throwing the fit to end all fits. And you'd be justified. I'm glad he's signed and not going anywhere, because I don't want him anywhere near my ball club. The guy is a jerk. It's that simple. He's proven it time and time again.
