What's Bump's status?

Featured Replies

I'm not too sure on his service time and therefore contract status. Does he go to arbitration this year?

Also, where do you see him in 2006? First of all, does he make the team in your opinion, secondly do you see him getting a shot at the rotation in ST?

I'd think if he's back (and I think he will be) he'd be in the pen. What I'd like to see him do is go back to standing on the center of the rubber as he did after his promotion from AAA last season when he performed really well.

Anyway if anyone knows the answer to my question or wants to give their input, that'd be great. Thanks.

I want him as a middle reliever. I think he can be a solid 7th inning guy.

Others may/will disagree.

If he is healthy i can see him as a solid 7th inning guy...i don't think Bumpy would have the stamina to start in the big leagues and that is the last position the fish would need him in since they have so many starters and not enough spots for them

Willis, Beckett, Josh Johsnon, Jason Vargas, Scott Olsen plus any free agent starter they might bring in plus all the younger kids...starters are at a premieum in this organization

I want him on another team.

I thought he was having Tommy John?

If he comes back, he's gotta be in the 'pen.

I don't remember hearing that... might've missed it.

No TJ, he should be back in the Spring

Dr. Dan Kanell, Marlins team physician, and another orthopedist read the MRI and told Bump he had a torn labrum.

Whoops, totally missed that one.

Say what you want about Bump, but he was probably our 3rd best option out of the pen all year. Not that that's saying a whole lot, but he was pretty solid when he was healthy.

3rd best? I'd go as far as saying 2nd best

Bump can give you a good inning or two, three is pushing it, so i dont know if i would call him long relief but he was solid when eh came in last year

Bump showed improvement this year. Just keep him away from pressure situations. I wouldn't want to pay him more than about $500K though.

There's no reason to jettison him while he's cheap.

Use him in the set role of mop up guy/long reliever and he's a great guy to have on the team.

There's no way Bump will start at all next year, at least I hope to God he doesn't... in all honosty, I'd love to see a complete change in our bullpen... I mean really, could it get much worse than it was this year?

Who would fit into your bullpen plans for 2006 since the only one left is Todd Jones.....you had 2 rookies in the pen this year.....and the rest were veterans.....payroll is an issue....guess you have no faith in the rookies.....these two were 24 and 22 yrs old....yea they were not a Willis but they have great potential.....one kid just now finished his 2nd yr of professional pitching.....your thoughts are always welcome

Yes, if the veteran free agents we sign flop as badly as the veteran free agents we signed for 2005 did.

Im glad my thoughts are "welcome". Who should be in our pen next season? Thats not my job. I dont follow MLB middle relievers. I do follow the middle relievers on our team. Tell me ONE person in the pen from last season other than Jones you felt at all comfortable handing the ball to. As far as our rookies are concerned hopefully they show progress, but they wont be pitching in the 7, 8, or 9th innings in a game which the Marlins are leading or down by 1.

I'd want Mecir back personally but that is not going to happen. And I, myself, have confidence in Resop and Messenger...and the money having them in the pen at just over $300k apiece from the get go will provide.
