Posted August 19, 200321 yr So who is your Marlins #1 prospect, Bautista or Jason Stokes? I'd have to go with Bautista right now but I think Stokes is going to blow up Double-A in 2004. Also, could Jeff Allison end up being the Marlins' #1 prospect next season? Quite possibly. And what about Scott Olsen? The Marlins do have a few potential #1 prospects in their system. That's a very good sign, the future of this team is very bright side note: I talk to my friend today. He told me the offer on table from LA to acquire Mikey would have been a steal looking back. Hear me out. LHP Greg Miller one of the players would have been one of the throw in on a deal that would have included either Beltran or Mota and CF Franklin Gutierrez(Dodgers top prospect) or Edward Jackson(top ready for the ML pitcher). Back to Greg Miller he is now the top pitcher in the minors by many scouts. Yes better than any young pitcher the Cubs would have offered. A mistake? will see...
August 19, 200321 yr Bautista Pitching > Hitting But we do have quite a few good pitching prospects and not too many boppers (as far as I know). I think Stokes will really make big strides next year. I wish they would throw some of the AA guys up here to Albq already. The really good ones (DW and Cabs) this year just stayed east - good for the Fish, bad for my being able to see them play :confused
August 19, 200321 yr Bautista. We need as many pitchers as we can get. The 1990's Atlanta Braves showed that a dynasty can be built around pitching.
August 19, 200321 yr baseballamerica has stokes ranked higher this season and he hasnt really done much to lower his potential. Bautista will be in the majors before Stokes but Jason Stokes is the 2004 top prospect

Do you think he will/can be the reason the Marlins may not tender AJs contract? Is it correct that he might have a shot at making the team next spring, or be brought up in May like dontrelle was for arbitration purposes?
August 20, 200321 yr Bautista is a freak. 8 ft tall, 100 lbs, and a rocket of an arm! bulls*** he isnt 100lbs
August 20, 200321 yr Josh Willingham is another top prospect to look out for from what i see he has 5 hr's, 1 2b, 1 3b in 24 atbats (and only 10 hits total for him) in his season so far in AA. Ryan Baker is also doin solid (we aquired him in spoony deal) is 5-4 with a 3.07 ERA.
August 20, 200321 yr Bautista is a freak. 8 ft tall, 100 lbs, and a rocket of an arm! he is 6'5' 170 pounds...
August 20, 200321 yr I'd Have to say Bautista! I saw him pitch in the Future's game and he had VERY good pitches and control. Jason Stokes is a very good prospect but i have to go with Bautista.
August 20, 200321 yr We have such great prospects, I can't really decide. Stokes is the best player, but Bautista is our top prospect. Stokes will be a beast next year when his wrist is in tip top shape. Willingham is a guy you need to keep an eye on. Jeff Allison could quite possibly be in the majors as quick as Beckett.
August 20, 200321 yr I have a feeling Jeff Allison is going to be up here soon. He reminds me of Beckett, i dont know why.
August 20, 200321 yr side note: I talk to my friend today. He told me the offer on table from LA to acquire Mikey would have been a steal looking back. ..... A mistake? will see... yes then we'd be gearing up for that big 2006 run...... I'll take a playoff chance THIS year with Lowell here, thanks anyway. Good question though... I would have said Stokes a few months ago, now I get the feeling one of the pitchers will jump over him to the top of the list.
August 20, 200321 yr I am going with our most vital prospect, and that would be Stokes. His development will be key to whether we keep Lowell or not. That being we might have to lose Castillo and Lee in order to sign him, and Stokes' emergence will be all that more important. I know that is not going to answer your question, but it is one way for me to decide. Ed, I am curious about this deal with LA. There are KC players involved, so I guess it would have been a three way deal. Who would LA have given up to KC? I dont think that we could have afforded to trade away Lowell, he is important for developing our future fan base (I feel kind of like Conine was with the early Marlins) and has been vital for winning. Interesting post though.
August 20, 200321 yr Jonny, why would Stokes' development have anything to do with us keeping Lowell or not? That makes no sense to me...
August 20, 200321 yr Id have to go with Bautista here, because he advanced a level whereas Stokes isn't exactly tearing up single A Jupiter.
August 20, 200321 yr I'd have to say Stokes. I mean, he IS the reason we traded a number one draft pick. If that's not an endorsement, I don't know what is.
