Ronnie vs Cadillac (now who would you pick?)

Featured Replies

Caddy gets more yards a game and is the starting RB for a first place team in the better conference. Caddy wins.

/objective viewpoint

Shouldnt the stats that are not team dependent be more relevant? If Saban gave up on the season and fed Ronnie the ball such that he reduced his yards per carry to 4.2 from 4.6 but pumped up yards per game and total yards, would that be fair?

If Ronnie was out gaining Caddy on the game with similar or more TDs...Id vote for Brown, no doubt about it. But he doesnt. For as outstanding Browns all around game is (when the fact is we dont put Williams into our pass game) he only has 69 more yards in 2 more games and including the three games Caddy was really injured.

He doesn't get as many opportunities.

I guess we should blame Ronnie for Linehan's playcalling.

I guess we should blame Caddy's lack of recieving yards on the fact that he isnt put into designed pass plays. I guess we should discount the two less games.

For all the griping about Ricky taking away from Brown, do you even know if Brown can shoulder the load of alot of carries like Williams can right now? That may have more to do with it then just Ricky being there.

Like I said before, take out the Alstott point blank range TDs and Caddy has 3-4 more TDs and alot of these arguments dont take place.

That's like saying if the Queen had balls she would be the King.

I mean for all Alstott "takes away" from Caddy's statistics, it doesn't even compare to what Ricky's impact on Ronnie is.

The counter to what you said would be if Ricky isn't here then Ronnie's numbers are way up statistically and we don't have this argument.

It's a big circle.

Again.

Alstott gets point blank attempts at the goal line. Alot of first and goal at the one, second and goal at the one. If Caddy was going for those scores this isnt even an argument. Im talking point blank touchdowns. I dont think any of Big Mike's 6 TD runs have come from more then like 5 yards out.

Thats my point.

I understand what you are saying, but by the same token, you should see what I am saying.

The counter to the point blank Alstott TDs would be all the carries Ronnie shares with Ricky. Ronnie would have many more yards, attempts and TDs and this argument would not be taking place either.

It works both ways.

BTW, I dont give a flying f*** about ROY. I care more long term and for me I would rather have Ronnie, but that is just my opinion.

1. Stop bitching about Caddy in the passing game, if you have watched the Dolphins you would know we don't really incorporate Ronnie much either and he gets his when he can.

2. Maybe I am misinterpreting what you mean, but that sounds pretty ignorant to me right now.

Ronnie never carried the load in college, so how do you know that he can do it in the NFL? Maybe Saban doesn't think that he can.

That is what I think his point is.

Cadillac had 251 carries to Browns 95 carries their senior years.

You guys drafted Brown to be your feature back, you had no idea if Ricky would play this year at that time. Brown is in Miami's future...Ricky isnt, I would think that if you wanted to really build up Brown, he would be getting the bulk of the workload and not a guy who may not be around next year.

I did not know Caddy was the model of health and durability.

But I do know Ronnie has never had any real injury iirc.

Is Miami just showcasing Ricky to the rest of the NFL? Just wondering..

The hell?

My point is how do you know Brown can carry the workload right now? He didnt do it his senior year compared to Williams...maybe physically right now Brown cant have the carries that Williams is having. Im not slighting Brown with this, I just think its a valid point/question.

Part of that is because he has never had to carry the load. Nobody said anything about Caddy being made of steel, all Passion said was that there could be reasons why Ronnie has had fewer touches besides Ricky being there.

There is no doubt in my mind that Ronnie will be fulltime back next year....so yes, I think they are showcasing him.

You dont draft a guy with the second pick and not expect him to carry the load, at least down the road. Remember, Ricky coming back was no sure thing when they picked Ronnie. So yeah, I dont think thats an issue.

There are obviously a few scenarios you have failed to consider:

1. Maybe instead we are letting Ricky get carries because as Saban stated, this year is more about evaluation than Super Bowl asperations. In letting Ricky get carries and due to his cap friendly numbers, he will become more valuable in the trade market.

2. Since we were never really Super Bowl bound, Saban is trying to prolong a special talent like Ronnie's career. If you would look at brusing, punishing runners throughout the history of the NFL, overuse has historically led to early retirement and ineffectivness. Eddie George, Earl Cambell, etc... all had relatively shorter careers due to their style. Since we are not SB contenders this year, maybe Saban did not want to punish Ronnie's body for nothing. I don't know about you, but I don't think Saban is playing for ROY, I think he has more important, larger goals in mind.

3. Having 2 excellent talents at RB can help a team win. It may kill an individuals statistics, but last I checked this was the most team oriented game in the big 4 American sports. It was not too long ago that Ricky led the ENTIRE NFL in rushing. Let me know what Caddy does that. I can personally assure you that if Caddy was a Dolphin right now, he would be splitting carries as well.

Those are three VERY realistic scenarios and legit reasons why they are splitting carries right now.

Sorry, was more of a response to Felo than you. Should have specified.

Not when he's one of the most talented RBs in the league and makes the veteran minimum.

It was not too long ago that Ricky led the ENTIRE NFL in rushing. Let me know what Caddy does that.

Typical 'The Fan' random/pointless potshot, I was going to commend your post but then I just got turned off.

It also wasnt that long ago when Ricky missed a whole year, so he isnt going to be in the best of shape to shoulder the load. I would have thought Ronnie would be the feature back considering his competition was a skinny less talented Ricky Williams then that Williams who led the league in rushing.

I think you guys are arguing over which type of steak do you want. When you consider that I think chicago got the ground beef instead of the steak in benson (who was the sure thing remember).

either way both have solid stats and could easily be rookie of the year offensively. I think still that tampa has a better team around Cadillac then Ronnie has by far offensively. Which does help in many instances. Where also if Ronnie wasnt splitting time he would be withing more of a grove and play better. 9 carries a game is very little to a running back typically. Either way, Ronnie in his college career when Cadillac was hurt, showed he had the ability to be the feature back. Look over the Auburn stats back then. Ronnie was teh feature back for a year before cadillac was hurt.

Now would I be upset with either back? Heck no, both are solid and great backs and it would be an honor to have. But I will take Ronnie and his abilties first.

It is an interesting offensive rookie of the year this year. Who does it go to

Miller of Steelers with his TD as a TE

Orton pretty much has played himself out

Jones the WR of jacksonville has gotten better and better

Ronnie who does it all and splits time with an all pro, heisman winner, that has been a rushing leader and top 5 back?

Cadillac who started the year off in an amazing spurt that set a record before injuries slowed him down.

Either way I think this year will end up being remembered for the Linebackers

Thurman

Crowder

Johnson

Taputu

Those four are all gonna be all pros for a long time coming I think.

PS a blacksheep for ROY Khalif Barnes of Jacksonville. He was drafted as a OG and now is OT. He has been great for them over the year, today he kept Mathis from touching his QB. Solid pick up in the 2nd for Jacksonville. (wish we would of gotten him instead of Roth)

Calling Benson ground beef is just ignorant.. He looked impressive in his few games before he got hurt, so how bout you wait a while to make your judgement on a guy who hasn't had a chance to prove himself yet. Thanks.
