Posted November 3, 200519 yr Here in Chicago there's a big rumor floating around between the Cubs and Marlins. Any of you guys hear this: Cubs Aquire: Juan Pierre and prospect Marlins Aquire: Glendon Rusch (LHP), Corey Patterson, Cubs top prospect Felix Pie.
November 3, 200519 yr I'm guessing Johnson or Olsen. no way they need juan bad and should give us more then he is worth

November 3, 200519 yr why do we want rusch? He isnt that good and we have 3 LHP that are Major league ready in Olsen, Vargas and Willis *cy young possible pitcher* That wouldnt make sense at all Rusch is 9-8 4.52 ERA 1.57 WHIP He is also 31-32 years old at the start of next year. Why would we want him???? We would be better off signing Moheler back then that. At least he would be our garbage instead of chi-towns. Patterson is a major disappointment and nothing great. He strikes out Way way way too much. Pie I really dont think is going to become much, he has some potential but I dont trust this prospect at all, he has patterson written all over it. He strikes out too much and isnt ready for 2 more years at least. This is not a good deal. Sorry if we move pierre attach him to lowell to dump. Otherwise, Keep JP and move him midseason when he has raised his value up.

Any of you guys hear this: Cubs Aquire: Juan Pierre and prospect Marlins Aquire: Glendon Rusch (LHP), Corey Patterson, Cubs top prospect Felix Pie. I haven't heard that. Cubs would never trade Patterson and Pie. They're practically desperate just to get rid of Patterson. He's not going to succeed in Chicago with all that he's been thru. Could turn out similar to Kyle Farnsowrth, not succedding in Chicago while thriving someplase else, becuase Patterson still has a lot of potential. They're not reluctant to rid Felix Pie though. He's real good, but they're under a lot of pressure to succeed not only becuase they've faild over the last 2 years with arguably 2 of the better NL teams, but also becuase thier crosstown rival White Sox just won the World Series.

November 3, 200519 yr awful awful awful offer....I wouldn't do it. Dealing Pierre would be one of the worst mistakes this team could ever make.
November 3, 200519 yr I like that deal other than Glendon Rusch. He just sucks and he's gonna make $3 million a year for the next two years. :plain
November 3, 200519 yr we shouldnt have to give a prospect AND JP...JP is too vaulable and all Paterson does is get hurt Forget It im praying this doesnt happen. look what happended to lee when he went there, f this NO COREY PATTERSON give us a decent pitcher too...rusch is old..ill put money down saying he wins 6 games next year. and we need a guy to win 10-12 to contend again
November 3, 200519 yr at least Rusch has the ability to win 10 - 12 and he has done it before unlike all the other rooks. could be a very good 5th starter (or long relieve/spot starter) I actually dig the deal depending on the prospect we are giving up. but then again they are giving up one of their top prospects so its really unrelevant
November 3, 200519 yr I found this info here: http://www.associatedcontent.com/content.c...nt_type_id=9523 Chicago Cubs' Prospect Felix Pie a Rising Star - Future of Cubs in More Ways Than One Published Oct 2, 2005 by Phillip Barrington Felix Pie, pronounced PEE-ay, is currently the hottest prospect in the Chicago Cubs organization. He stands 6?2, weighs 170 pounds, is 20 years old. Hits and throws from the left side. His smile: contagious. The future of the Chicago Cubs. A five-tool talent:. speed, swing, power, fielding, glove. His speed allows him to stretch singles into doubles, and doubles in to triples with ease. His patience at the plate gives him the option of getting a hit or talking the walk and stealing second. His frame is large enough that his power numbers are already on the rise. In the outfield, where a player?s prowess is very underrated, Pie makes hard, consistent and precise throws, and doesn?t hesitate to flash the leather if necessary. But enough about what Felix will become. Let?s talk about what he?s done. Born in the town of La Romana, Dominican Republic, Pie was signed at the young age of 16. The Dominican Republic has produced some of today?s top major leaguers like Vladimir Guerrero, Sammy Sosa, and Pedro Martinez. The town of La Romana itself has produced 10 major leaguers. His first professional campaign, the short season Arizona Fall League, gave the world a glimpse of what Pie had to offer. The year 2002. Pie?s speed was most on display, as he paced the league with 13 triples to go along with 17 stolen bases. In 55 games Pie hit .321, was voted the Top Prospect of the Arizona Fall League, as well as sharing the Most Valuable Player honors. He was 17. His 2003 season Pie spent playing for the Lansing Lugnuts of the Midwest league. Lansing is a high Class A division, which Pie was suited for. In 124 games, he hit 4 home runs, 9 triples, knocked in 47 RBI?s, and slugged .388. He was selected to play in the MLB Futures Game during the All-Star weekend. Pie also made his first appearance in a Cubs spring training game, getting a hit in his only at-bat. In 2004, Pie played the season for the Daytona Cubs in the Florida State League. Daytona is considered Class A Advanced, so a step up for Pie. In 110 games, Pie hit .297, hit 8 home runs to go with 10 triples and 47 runs batted in. Pie also attended Cubs spring training, this time playing in five games, and getting 3 hits in 5 at-bats. Already a minor league veteran by age 20, the year 2005 saw Felix moving up the ladder, this time to the Double A. He again attended Cubs spring training, and played in three games. He ultimately started the season with West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx. During the first half he teamed with fellow young hitters Matt Murton and Adam Greenberg to strike fear into opposing pitchers. The three sluggers combined to lead West Tennessee to the first half division crown. Murton and Greenberg where called up soon after the first half, but Pie would have to wait his turn. Not because he wasn?t wanted, or needed by the big league club. Pie?s 2005 season ended abruptly, with a stress fracture in his ankle. At the time of the injury he had played in 59 games, hit .304 with 11 homers, 5 triples, and was about to be called up. The Cubs were hoping for a September call up but it is now out of the question. Pie will be healed up in time to play Winter ball in his native Dominican Republic. Probably the greatest attribute the Pie possesses is not a god given talent. Its his desire to win. Coaches say that he is much more concerned with whether the team is winning rather than personal glory. That is an attribute which cannot be taught. To be on a winning team is important to Felix, and hopefully he can bring some of his good attitude to Chicago as soon as possible. With the Cubs currently being mired in a dismal season, it would be the perfect time to Pie show what he?s got, or at least get big league at bats. The point is moot however. Looking on the bright side, Pie will be back to play winter ball. Current Cubs general manager calls Pie the only real candidate in the Cubs? system that could be a lead-off man, and it is for certain that Pie will compete for a roster spot during 2006 spring training. Uh, wow. Do that trade now, regardless of who else we package with JP!
November 3, 200519 yr The first thing a person should do when a newbie shows up with a post like this is, is say...WHAT'S THE SOURCE OF THIS RUMOR? For example, if you search Goggle News (news.google.com) it appears no news outlet (Chicago Sun-Times, Chicago Tribune, or the suburban dailies in the area) are touting this "rumor". The whole reason for a team like the Cubs to acquire a Juan Pierre is because they don't have to commit to him for more than one year so they can then make room for the very guy that this trade would send to Florida, Felix Pie. Within a minute, you should know this "rumor" is BS.
November 3, 200519 yr on another thread I posted two articles off of ProsportsDaily with news from 2 chicago papers that pretty much had this story 2003. But, I think it is just BS rumors that are up there started by Chicago radio and news. They do that often sadly.

The only stuff I've seen is Patterson and Hill for Pierre, and I'm at PSD right now and can't find any mention of this specific trade. Thanks.
November 3, 200519 yr It might of been patterson and Hill, but you know how Rumors evolve into other players too. Either way, I agree with you and think it is just bs radio talk. Like earlier in the year when half of the board was head over heals for Sheffield for AJ talk. What really worries me right now is Beinfest to LA, if he goes that would murder the fish and the future.
November 3, 200519 yr Marlins2003, I have to disagree with you on something. Pierre is not a player that is going to hold down a position for a year. The Cubs remember how he can change a teams entire offensive demeanor. They also have been trying to get a legit leadoff hitter for a long time. They may not trade pie for pierre but i do not think it is because pierre is only holding down the position for pie. Pie I am sure could play left next to pierre. It is going to have to be a significant package to get pie, but it is not because they only want pierre for one year. Pierre would become their third best offensive player if they get him and you could argue he does more for their line-up than Aramis as well.

My point really was that Pierre offers them options and you may be right that they would want him longterm with Pie playing a corner position. Great point! That said, I think we're generally in agreement.
