Delgado to be traded

Featured Replies

Marlins: General manager Admin Beinfest, under contract through 2007 with the Marlins, is believed to have interest in the Dodgers GM post. According to published reports Friday, the Dodgers have not asked the Marlins for permission to speak with Beinfest, who grew up in the Los Angeles area.

Two league sources told MLB.com that first baseman Carlos Delgado definitely will be shopped and likely will be traded before the start of Spring Training. Last January, Delgado signed a four-year, $52 million deal with the Marlins with an option for a fifth season.

With the Marlins expected to trim payroll, Delgado is a strong candidate to be traded because of his value and remaining salary. He has three years and $48 million left on his contract, including $13.5 million for the 2006 season. According to the sources, the Marlins will float Delgado's name around beginning next week at the general manager meetings in California.

One source said scouts at the Arizona Fall League are talking about Delgado being on the market, and the Mets are the team showing the most interest.

This is called "there are a million different ways to slice the baloney" post.

Boy, someone really needs attention...sheesh

Please tell me this is not true. :(

I dont want him to be traded nor do I think he will. But, all the reports of him being traded have mentioned the Mets in one way shape or form, and it just unnerves me.

Take a Valium bro...

if there's any truth to this the Franchise can be certain about one thing...A certain percentage of fans they have established because of the past 3 years will be no more.

I take into account the high television ratings this year...not just the attendance (which really does'nt show a major jump).

Sad but a lot of fans here in S Florida will not accept the "rebuilding" process, which may realistically be sooner than expected.

I'm gonna go get drunk and smoke and then go to white castle...I'll be fine after that.

KEEP DELGADO!

NO REBUILDING!

See what poor reading comprehension and poor titling can cause?

I think this should probably be locked...

This will seriously hurt the Marlins if Delgado is traded whether it helps the team or not... This will be another case of the Marlins bringing in some guy for major bucks for one year and then dumping him. No free agent will want to come here just to leave again not to mention the fickel fan base will not want anything with this team if the Marlins cannot prove they can keep a big free agent for more than a year. I'd rather not be teased with a big name for one season every other year and have the Marlins looked upon as the joke of the National League because they cannot keep players ( shades of Montreal 10-15 years ago ).

When I read this thread's title, I got pissed. I understand the economic situation with Loria being able to spend only so much with a stadium hanging over his head. But dammit, can't he at least find a partner or two who are willing to invest and put money into a payroll and stadium and give this franchise stability? I don't really want to see Loria go, but I sometimes wonder if this team would flourish in Miami if a big spender took over the reins. If I had the money, I'd do it myself.

If Delgado is traded, I will still remain a fan of the Marlins, but because of the economic BS inherent in professional sports (large vs. small market teams), it will if anything drive a wedge between me and MLB in general. To an extent, NFL got it right. There are so many teams that are competitve every year because of the salary cap. Too many damn unions have messed up baseball which is why a salary cap will never exist in the national pastime

I'll say it again.

The only reason for this thread and it's headline was to draw attention to the person posting it.

I'm curious how you know Carlos won't be traded. Are you privy to some information the rest of us aren't?

don't overreact people.

It would really look bad for Loria to deal away Delgado. What top free agents are ever going to sign here when they know if they agree to an escalating salary, they're going to get dealt as soon as the price jumps up? I just think it would set an awful precedent for the ownership, especially after Delgado did everything he was expected to.

Not happening. Loria also told Delgado personally he wasn't going anywhere.

whatever :whistle

I just want to know who the hell the Mets would give us.

Petit, Millege, cash

Not debating this because I don't think it will happen, but the Mets wouldn't give up that package to get Manny, so I doubt they throw that our way...

Petit is overrated. But, in any case, this would put us in full rebuilding mode.
