CardsJimEdmonds15
Albert has been named the National League Most Valuable Player. First Cardinals MVP since Willie McGee won it in 1985. Cardinals will hold a press conference at either 2:30 or 3:30.. I cant remember exactly what was said. Â Congratulations Albert..
CardsJimEdmonds15
Pujols beats out Jones for NL MVP By GUY CURTRIGHT The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 11/15/05 Andruw Jones led the majors with 51 homers, won his eighth consecutive Gold Glove and led the Braves to a record 14th consecutive division title. That wasn't enough to win the National League Most Valuable Player award, however. St. Louis first baseman Albert Pujols, who had finished second to San Francisco's Barry Bonds the last four seasons, beat out the Braves center fielder. Voting was announced Tuesday by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. It was a three-player race between Jones, Pujols and Chicago Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee. [More in URL]
TSwift25
Not to say that I disagree, but if Pujols had won it once in the past few Bonds dominated seasons, this would be Andruw's. Pujols deserves it, but he won it because he finished second to Bonds all those years...Jones should be the MVP. Passion
I'm a tad suprised, Pujols didnt beat both Jones or Lee in any category besides OBP.  What probably boosted him over the others was that his team was the best regular season team of the three. Congrats to Albert. CardsJimEdmonds15
1380 - Sources inside MLB says the Cards wont have to cancel a 3:30 press conference set for Albert. Pujols hit .330 with 41 HR's, 117 RBI's, scoring 129 runs. Albert also swiped 16 bases.

CardsJimEdmonds15
Pujols earns first MVP Award Cardinals slugger held together injury-plagued lineup By Matthew Leach / MLB.com   ST. LOUIS -- Choose your definition of valuable, and Albert Pujols lived up to it in 2005. Pujols, 25, was a dominant offensive force, ranking among the National League leaders in virtually every hitting category. He complemented his bat with solid and improving defense and success on the basepaths. He came up with big hits at big times. He was the one constant threat in a Cardinals lineup ravaged by injuries. He was the best player on the best team in the league. And so Pujols now has the one individual award that eluded him for his first four big league seasons. He was named the NL's Most Valuable Player on Tuesday by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Pujols had finished fourth or better in the balloting in each of his first four seasons, placing second twice. Barry Bonds won each of the previous four MVPs in the NL. Pujols edged out two other strong candidates, Atlanta's Andruw Jones and the Cubs' Derrek Lee. Jones led the Majors with 51 home runs while playing for an Atlanta team that, like the Cardinals, was hit hard by injuries. Lee won the batting title and finished ahead of Pujols in batting average, slugging percentage, home runs and doubles, but toiled for a losing club.  [More in URL]
reidikus
Andruw Jones' average had to have hurt him big time I think so too, if his average had been higher, he would have narrowed the gap since there numbers were otherwise fairly similar. Guest Fritz
Derrek Lee got severely screwed. He won the GG and SS. But he loses the MVP to a guy that plays the same position as him? WTF? Albert only got this one because Barry has snagged so many in the past. The fact that Andruw finished 2nd is just ridiculous.
CardsJimEdmonds15
Yes Albert only got this because of always finishing as runner up to Barroids.. Uh huh.. Pujols was very valuable to the Cardinals. People just assume because they are the Cardinals they'd be awesome without Pujols.
QuickGold
I think DLee or Andruw were the reason for any of their teams success this past season. Braves would not have made playoffs without the year Andruw had and the Cubs would have been absolutely atrocious had DLee not have had the career year he had

The value to his team goes to Jones.

JonDigital
great. just another case of someone winning b/c they were on a better team. these voters are f***ing morons.  the fact is the Cubs and Braves both suck respectivley if both Lee and Jones were on other teams. the cards still have a pretty formidable lineup and pitching to lead them to the playoffs. nice timing on the new AP MVP sig! your on point  nice to see both Miggy and Carlos getting some consideration. congrats to cards fans. That is why A-Rod doesnt have more then two right now.  Dont come at me like it is my opinion, im just stating voter rationale, if you think that team success plays no part in the voters mind, you are sadly mistaken. TSwift25
Just my two cents about this:Â If it's going to be just about the numbers, why go through the voting process?

MarlinFan10
If you take Albert off the Cardinals, they probably win the NL Central. If you take Jones off the Braves, they probably don't win the NL East.
The Fan
So in theory, are we penalizing someone because their GM makes better moves to supply talent to a team and prepare them for a WS? I thought the goal of baseball is to make a team competitive for a title and not to surround a team with players in an attempt to make one guy win a MVP?
