December 5, 200520 yr Everyone is preaching that they'll win 100 games. Has anyone looked at their rotation? It's Pedro Martinez and .................. They are following the footsteps of the Rangers. I hate to say it but it looks like the Braves are in line for another division title.
December 5, 200520 yr Um, last time I checked it's only December ... there's still 3 months left to make moves before Spring Training. And given Omar's hurried pace this off season, I think we're far from done. So why don't we hold off on handing the Braves or the Mets the division.
December 5, 200520 yr They still have Tom Glavine, Aaron Heilman, Steve Trachsel, Kris Benson, Jae Seo, and Victor Zambrano... Not reminiscent of the A's old trio, but not a bad bunch there.. Plus I'm sure they're not done dealing.
December 5, 200520 yr They'll be a good team, it's just kind of ironic that they're trying their best to assemble the very flawed '05 Marlins team. And a buddy of mine who works/worked for the Mets said he'd be surprised if LoDuca stays with the team...so they're probably is going to be at least one more major trade left from them. They do still need a lot to become an "elite" team, at least in my eyes, but they've got the resources to go about doing it, and Minaya's already layed his job on the line for this season, so I don't think there'll be any front office reticence.
December 5, 200520 yr If the mets could get a guy like millwood or AJ, then I think they will be set for a post season run, two aces, plus glavine, zambrano, Benson....not the best rotation in the world, but with there lineup they dont really need it, plus with Seo and Heilman they'll have a little depth if someone gets hurt, if Omar gets another ace type pitcher, the mets will go far
December 5, 200520 yr Don't forget Anna Benson. She wears the pants on the team. Aren't her pants usually off?

Jae Seo pitched real great this season, he added another pitch to his set aswell and had the lowest ERA of the bunch from what I remember. They have Aron Heilmen and Zambrano, but I think they will be in the bull pen. Glavine might have age but like Smolts still has potential in him. Th next player is unknown to me, it might be a new FA or from a trade incoming. Trachsel might not fit the rotation

December 5, 200520 yr Gammons says they might be signing Grudzielanek soon too. Beinfest and Samson would never do it, but Steve Trachsel would be a fine addition to round out our rotation. He has never gotten the credit he's due in New York. Pitches a lot of innings and is a lot better than somebody like Valdez. Minaya seems to have pretty deep pockets. I know I'll get crap for this, but we need somebody to be a good filler for this year.
December 6, 200520 yr Mets Front Office > Marlins Front Office :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol And I don't particularly like the Marlins front office.
December 6, 200520 yr Mets Front Office > Marlins Front Office The Marlins have a Front Office? More like a discount rack.

A vetern starter will not help the team, and just takes away valueable learning experience from our young kids.

A vetern starter will not help the team, and just takes away valueable learning experience from our young kids. Getting your @$$ handed to you on a nightly basis does not help you learn. The fact of the matter is, some of these kids are not ready to face major league hitting, or the quality of major league hitting that will exist in the NL East next season, and pitching every fifth day at AA/AAA will serve some of them better than taking their lumps on the big league roster. We're not trying hard to win, os putting some people out there who know how to pitch will serve the team, and the young players' development more than simply throwing them all to the wolves. With the exception of Burnett (and even that's debateable) none of the pitchers from our "baptism by fire" teams of '98, '99 and '00 were part of the '03-'05 run. A person breaks bad habits much quicker when that habit is standing between him and the big leagues.
December 6, 200520 yr Well think about it. Say we trade for McCarthy. Then we have Vargas and Willis, who are assured rotation spots. And Olsen and Johnson, along with McCarthy, have shown they are ready. Are we going to keep these guys down and start some scrubs, or let them get their experience against MLB pitching in 06 so they wont be suprised in 07?

Johnson, Olsen, and McCarthy are definitely ready. They won't get hammered by big league hitters on a consistent basis. Olsen struck out a lot of guys when he was up last season and McCarthy did well at the end of the season as well. Johnson did alright in his only start.

Thing is, it's impossible to say they're ready. A few starts doesn't prove anything. The thing with Major League hitters is they can make adjustments. These guys can look dominating one day against a team, but the real test is the next time out and the time after that.. I'm with TSwift... It's great to give a chance to a couple of young guys, who may have served enough time in the minors. But leaving them all up here to take their lumps is not really helping them.
December 6, 200520 yr Mets Front Office > Marlins Front Office More like.... Mets willingness to spend money >>>>>> Marlins willingness to spend money
