January 15, 200620 yr Almost three months since the Marlins announced they will seek relocation and not even a peep from the only city in the tri-county area that has approved funding for a possible baseball stadium. The "Hialeah Heights" site at this time is probably the most favorable location to put a baseball stadium in Miami-Dade or Broward. Yet why no mention in the media? Here is the thread I started concerning Hialeah the day the team announced it's intentions. http://www.marlinbaseball.com/forums/index...t=0#entry999017 Lets take a look at what the "Hialeah Heights" site has to offer: 1) No Wayne. 2) Voter approved $$$ for a stadium. Sorry my mistake. 3) Easy access for those in Broward (I-75 and the Turnpike) and especially Southwest Miami-Dade (Turnpike). No other site considered does both. 4) Hialeah Heights at this current time is planned to be something similar to Wayne's World. Am I just missing something? The only thing I can come up with (which would make sense if I were the Marlins) is that the Marlins are considering all their options and waiting for another city to give them a freebie in a downtown location before seriously considering a site in the suburbs of Miami. Either way something smells fishy I just don't know where the smell is coming from and if the fishy smell is a good thing or bad thing.
January 15, 200620 yr It also offeres moneyball! :mischief And Raul Martinez. but raul martinez isnt the mayor anymore!
January 15, 200620 yr michael: you and i are in agreement on this one. there are issues (political, economic, popularity, etc.) behind the scenes that i have not been able to pin down. i am hoping to have the mayor of hialeah, julio robaina, on our program, possibly as early as next week to discuss. i promise that this exact site will be brought up so he can give us an exact (and truthful, we hope), answer. thanks again for your e-mail. jerry I contacted the host of Descarga Deportiva and got this e-mail.
January 15, 200620 yr I don't understand why they're pursuing out of state when Hialeh will give them a free stadium. I don't think an owner should be allowed to relocate a team, if a city in the immediate area is willing to fork up the money for a stadium.
January 15, 200620 yr I personally think its a bias against Hialeah. I wouldn't mind if they build it next to the old horse track. Tri-rail access, metro-rail, and Lots of parking.
January 15, 200620 yr Are people talking about Hialeah around the racetrack or the triangle west of the Palmetto they somewhow or another annexed?
January 15, 200620 yr Ok, I definitely would not goto a game if the stadium was located in that Godforsaken cess-pool of a town. I mean c'mon....either put it next to Joe Robbie or find a way to get it in Broward where the majority of your season ticket holders are.
January 15, 200620 yr Well...if they can put a stadium in Hialeah, Homestead, Hollywood, or Hobe Sound.....I'd go. Any are preferable to the Marlins leaving the area entirely. That said, the best location would be where it is now, or close by.
January 15, 200620 yr Are people talking about Hialeah around the racetrack or the triangle west of the Palmetto they somewhow or another annexed? The piece of land west of Miami Lakes between I-75 and the Turnpike. Let me clear things up. THIS IS NOT THE HIALEAH RACE TRACK SITE.

I mean c'mon....either put it next to Joe Robbie or find a way to get it in Broward where the majority of your season ticket holders are. Broward has no interest in putting any money for the stadium and it also has its share of cess pool towns. If it makes you feel any better I don't think they would ever consider a stadium in Hialeah. Next to Joe Robbie would be ok and if something gets done their it would be great !! I rather see the fish play than to lose them. If it means that they play in one of the tri-county cities then even better we still have baseball in South Florida.
January 16, 200620 yr I guess I was wrong. I thought HH was the triangle above where you've indicated the "Heights" are.
January 16, 200620 yr I've looked at that track before, and it looks like a fine location for a stadium. I'd be pleased if the City of Hialeah and Marlins could come to terms at this location. The site near the racetrack would be god-awful to get to.
January 16, 200620 yr I don't know the specifics of this, but if a stadium really is available on a silver platter for the Marlins to take, it's either their own stubbornness to continually want more elsewhere (but let's be honest, Hialeah is still probably more desireable than downtown Vegas), or a market study somehow showing that Hialeah would alienate some important established part of the fan-base (yet they insisted on the OB site for a long time and it didn't take rocket science to know that would take out much of the Palm Beach and Broward walk up sales). I will say this, though, Hialeah is more to blame than the Marlins on this inactivity, local officials there need to be beating the drums to make this clearly available.

If they find the right spot, they'll make up those lost season ticket holders with new ones and walk-ups. The concerns of Broward and PB County fans hasn't been a concern since the original Marlins owner started looking for stadium sites a decade ago. That should tell you something. In the opinion of three seperate administrations of the Florida Marlins, they view a stadium off a highway spur out on the county border to be a poor location.
January 16, 200620 yr My guess as to what makes this site (Hialeah Heights) infeasible is it's dependance on 826, the Palmetto, as the main thoroughfare from the south and east. I think we all know how treacherous the Palmetto can be. I would almost prefer the racetrack site (I don't live in or near Hialeah) with some proper ramping to and from 95 to having to use the Palmetto 40-80x a year.
January 16, 200620 yr I would agree with Marlins2003. I would much prefer the race track site than the HH. The HH you are so dependent on the 826. Transporation draw backs to race track I would tend to differ. By car yeah It would be awful. Me personally I would love to use the train to get to the games or metro rail and be able to get back home without the worries of sitting in traffic. Thats just me. You still have others that want to use their cars which is fine. Just in comparison to events...when Hialeah Race track was operating the horse races about how many fans could the grandstand seat? Correct me if I am wrong but I believe it was more than 30,000. Parking was relatively smooth and the police did control the flow of traffic much like Dolphins stadium. The tri-rail is another great option for those in Palm Beach and Broward that do not want to drive into Hialeah. It puts you right their at the track.
January 16, 200620 yr The thing is Miami doesn't use mass transit. The vast majority of the population uses cars because the county is so centered on suburban life.
