Hialeah: Agua, Fango y los Marlins?

Just look at the mass transit when the Heat play. Remember when the Panthers were playing at the pink elephant. I see people as far as Kendall using this. People in suburbia actually drive to the train stations which is more convenient for them in terms of parking than to the arena where they have a difficult time finding parking and at a reasonable rate. I am just saying it's another option for those people who do not want to drive all the time for 40-80 games.

I keep wondering if somehow the city of Miami rejoins the mix as there are huge tracts of underdevloped and blighted land in the Overtown area that cry out for development.

I was on and around NE 3rd Ave the other day visiting the site of a failed high rise project not far from Rinker's downtown facility and the amount of land in that area is almost beyond belief. It's criminal what has happened to that part of town over the last three decades and I couldn't help but fantasize for a moment about a mixed-use project that would include a stadium and a mix of low, moderate and high-end housing that would change the face of the city forever. The key would be for the movers and shakers in the area to buy-in to such a project with the guarantee of both construction and post-stadium jobs as well as housing for those people displaced by the project.

It's unfortunate the city is fronted by the likes of Joe Arriola and others with so little integrity and foresight. Creating meaningful jobs by the thousands would mean an almost incalcuable amount to the people whose lives have so little hope right now.

Good post. I agree. Joe Arriola and all his fellow cronies are a permanent stain on this city.

Codina would/could do that. :o :o :o

You can even argue it could be done with the Race Track site aswell. It is a 200 acre piece of land.

But ofcourse, Loria is hellbent on owning this franchise with his limited cash resources. Ignorant slut.

Doesn't anyone think that perhaps Hialeah isn't fiscally viable enough to actually build a state of the art stadium?

Doesn't anyone think that perhaps Hialeah isn't fiscally viable enough to actually build a state of the art stadium?

I think that is the main issue. The voters of Florida voted to build a bullet train yet no bullet train is gonna be built.

They could float some bonds and Hialeah has a great economy. Im pretty sure if they tried hard enough they could do it but we'll see.

Transportation issues at the Hialeah Heights? I think its the fairest location. Its west enough that people in Kendall can reach it via the Turnpike, people in Broward and West Palm can access the lnad very easily using I-75, the people who live East of the location can use the 826 or Turnpike and even the 595 in Broward to I75. Im sure extending the metrorail line there isnt too much its already in Hialeah.

I still contest the best site EVER would be next to the AAA arena in downtown. At this point keeping the team in the tri county area is priority number one.

The city of Hialeah has excellent credit.

Can we get this word out of the discussion? We don't need what is fair. We need to find a spot that the Marlins and the municipalities putting up funds will benefit from.

Then this is the spot my friend.

I think the FAIREST location is Hialeah Heights. The least FAIR locations would be Homestead or Palm Beach and to the north. I also think that the area around Dolphin Mall would be very FAIR for the citizens of South Florida. As long as the Marlins have to put up very little they dont care where it is put hence they are seeking relocation. FAIR FAIR FAIR and Balanced.

I'd also like to mention this is minutes away from the higher income neighborhoods of Broward County as-well. (For those who don't know the area ;) )

Just a crazy idea (so please do not throw your tire irons at me) since we are talking about locations...If you go to the property search in Miamidade.gov and enter this folio number 0101000000120 you will get the wet slip that is north of the AAA. Suppose they fill in that rectangle of the slip. Do you guys think it could work?

I'd love to have a ballpark downtown.

It's already pretty filled up right now.

Last I checked, you could practically walk across all the garbage floating in it.

The property you're referencing is BiCentennial Park and has already been designated as the future home of two museums.

It was at one point the first place John Henry hoped to build his ballpark.

BTW, besides the above, there is a significant problem with the site. Under it are a maze of electrical, water, sewer and steam lines, and in order to fit a stadium, part of Biscayne Blvd would have to be moved west, which is no longer possible since the HoJo's site is currently being redeveloped.

Its some BS that they put two museums. This city and county have wasted billions on crap I aint ever gonna go to but once.

I know and I think it was about two months ago they broke ground on a small performing arts center further down south. It is worth $100 million. There was some money that could have closed the gap. It was headed by that female Miami-Dade commissioner (can't think of her name right now) who has always voted against helping the Marlins.

Like I said in another thread, my mom told me this morning that she heard on the radio that Robaina has been contacted about the possibility of building the stadium on the race track site.

How far away do you live from there Michael Festa?

Well that red dot on the map is my 'hood. :mischief :mischief :mischief

That would be the uber-politically correct Katy Sorenson.

Hialeah Heights isint an option.

Its either the Race Track or nothing.

Thats what i've been hearing. And for those that know me, I am my own inside source. :shifty
