January 30, 200620 yr get ready for another long ass process, don't expect any slam dunks I have serious doubt, this is getting done
January 30, 200620 yr CBS4 to have a report on CBS4 News @ 5 Update those of us that are out of market.
January 30, 200620 yr Update those of us that are out of market. I'm out-of-market, but once CBS4.com has the video, I will link it. The article is available on http://capefish.blogspot.com/ or http://www.cbs4.com
January 30, 200620 yr WSVN: Other sites being considered, Amelia Earhart Park and Homestead. WTF?!? Homestead!?!
January 30, 200620 yr Homestead will blow some smoke in a meeting. They do have the old Cleveland Indians Spring Training Ballpark, but what could they do about the location of Homestead deep down south?
January 30, 200620 yr Samson: Two sites very fascinating. City of Hialeah has a very interesting economic structure. Second meeting planned, no date announced.
January 30, 200620 yr According to WPLG 10's 4 PM News Update, Meeting is done for today. Homestead and Palm Beach officials have also chimed in on ballpark wishes. Palm Beach?!
January 30, 200620 yr Robaina just spoke on 1550. Everything positive, pretty much re-stated what was said here earlier
January 30, 200620 yr what does this mean for us? second meeting planned everything sounding good so far?
January 30, 200620 yr Good news. Lets see what happens. I am sure they would need to work on traffic problems. Does the metro rail reach either of the two sites they looked at today?
January 31, 200620 yr what does this mean for us? second meeting planned everything sounding good so far? to early to get excited, still a long way to go. But probably the only choice left to get a stadium built in SF
January 31, 200620 yr Good news. Lets see what happens. I am sure they would need to work on traffic problems. Does the metro rail reach either of the two sites they looked at today? Hialeah Race Track but that's the only way to get there. As of right now, Hialeah Heights is by far the best location available in South Florida. Robaina could push a ballpark village similar to what was built in Jupiter.
January 31, 200620 yr Good news. Lets see what happens. I am sure they would need to work on traffic problems. Does the metro rail reach either of the two sites they looked at today? The metro rail and tri-rail only reach the Hialeah Race track location. The other location is far out in the suburbs off of I-75 which requires driving to. With gas prices increasing and traffic congestion getting worse for years to come as the population grows I really hope they give the track serious consideration. I would like to pay more at the ball park for food, souvenirs, and other items than paying more at the pump.
January 31, 200620 yr If they build a park anywhere from Homestead to Jupiter I personally would go....and Samson and Loria would gladly sign on with anyone anywhere who would foot the bill. But if you people think that there's going to be lot's of people taking the tri-rail or Metro-rail to Hialeah Race Track site or any site, you're seriously out of touch with the average fan here in South Florida.
January 31, 200620 yr I would disagree about the Hialeah Heights section being the best location. There is lots of many to be made their for new homes compared to a stadium. I would like to hear from FIUmarlins. I believe he has the inside scoop on these talks. He was actually the first to break the news on this and has been quite reliable. What is the average fan? I am not being smart here I just want to know? The average fan in South Florida has a car. The average baseball fan in Miami doesn't live anywhere near any of the Metro Rail stops. The Metro Rail goes through all the ghettos, downtown and a few wealthy neighborhoods. Not one stop in SW Miami-Dade's upper to middle class population. Wealthy people don't use the Metro.
January 31, 200620 yr Wouldn't this be great if it worked out & started something of a rebirth for Hialeah? I think the Hialeah Heights site would be preferable, but even if it's the Racetrack, what's wrong with a site being accessibe by Metro-Rail? Not all people going to baseball games are "upper or middle class". This is the sport that actually still has affordable tickets for anyone, remember? anyhow, go Hialeah! :thumbup
January 31, 200620 yr Wouldn't this be great if it worked out & started something of a rebirth for Hialeah? Yeah, what this would do for the city locally and nationally is immeasurable. Lets take a look at the Metro Rail and it's stops... The massive expansion it will undergo is slated to be done by 2025. But you know how things work in Miami. Wouldn't this be great if it worked out & started something of a rebirth for Hialeah? I'm just saying if I'm the Marlins I'd rather bring in people with more $$$. Lets not forget Hialeah Heights is minutes away from Miramar, Weston and Pembroke Pines to the north.

I have a car. I'm not wealthy. Not even close. I live in Western Broward 20 minutes away from a convenient Metro-rail or Tri-rail station with lots of parking. Whatever. I've never taken it anywhere and I have no interest in taking the metro or tri-rail to a ballgame. I've ridden subways hundreds of times in New York, Boston, London, Paris, Barcelona, etc. It's just not a mainstream South Florida thing. I go to the game by car.

Average fans do live near metro rail. Their is a station in Dadeland and another phase in the metro rail project will be built. Tri rail is also planning to extend its services to Homestead.
January 31, 200620 yr Well, today's meeting is TOP NEWS at PalmBeachPost.com , but there's no mention of Palm Beach in the report. Both the Herald and the Sentinel have yet to mention anything.
January 31, 200620 yr I take metrorail everyday Money. Its pretty easily accesable for a lot of people in southwest dade up to about 200th street. Past there, its a 25 minute drive. But it takes 8 minutes to get to the Dadeland South station from 144th Street, with moderate to heavy traffic. And plenty of wealthy people use Metrorail, so thats silly.

Yeah average fans do live near the Metro Rail. But how many of these people can afford season tickets or packages?
