Cabrera (1 for 30) and Alex (1 for 26) are in big slumps. The rest of the team isn't doing much lately either, & things are magnified when the team isn't scoring runs...

But they need at least a LITTLE help from the bottom of the order. With Lowell out this team is already shorthanded. I know Fillet brought this up earlier, and I still wouldn't take him out permanently, but Alex is slumping worse than ever.

Problem is that now you're short on guys who can play third. I guess Mordy can play a little 3B and Lenny Harris could always go out there....

Might not be a bad idea anyway to give the bench some starts tomorrow. Maybe stick Mordecai in tomorrow at SS or 3B? These two need to snap out of it.

Harris does better in a PH role than he does starting. Mordecai or Fox should be taking over for AGON. As for Cabs maybe a day or two of rest would do him some good.

A-Gon's huge decline is quite disturbing and FF made a nice post on it earlier. His slump has been almost catastrophic and coupled with Cabs slump is killing us. Theres really not much we can do but give him a day off or two. Mordy will probably do just as bad, but at least we get GG calibre D from a-gon.

It pains me considerably when Cabrera is in an 0-2 hole...i know whats coming.

whenever Cabrera's behind 0-2 i KNOW he's gonna K...thats what kind of slump he's in right now.

exactly when Cabs went down 0-2 I knew the game was over I told my dad he will K here as soon as he went down 0-2 and he did.

Cabs struck out 3 times today! He has struken out three times twice this week. He and Alex are in a very bad slump. I think we should give them a day off and put harris at 3rd and Mordy at SS....

LET'S SEE YA GOT ERICKSON AND HOOPER JUST WAITING FOR THE CALL...

No brainer.

They can't possibly be worse than 1 for 30 and 1 for 26.

It wouldnt be wise because WHEN we make the playoffs they wouldnt be on the roster.

Guys, the best remedy is for them the swing out of it. Let us not mortify ourselves over these two players.

We have to play smart in Sept. and we didn't do that tonight.

We should have walked Kendall because he hurt us the most. Notice that he was their offense driving in runs tonight and that Reggie Sanders got out alot. Kendall isn't paid that much to do nothing.

I just cant believe we are losing all of our games against these Pirates the Whole week! Willis didnt pitch all that bad. We just couldnt get him one more run.... :(

It wouldnt be wise because WHEN we make the playoffs they wouldnt be on the roster. As much as you'd like to think you WILL make the playoffs, nothing is a given, and it'd be better to let Hooper and Erickson help you MAKE the players than Gonzo and Miggy Cab lead you AWAY from the playoffs.

Your being a little ridiculous here taxi. Youd actually give two guys with no ML Ab's the job? hmm.

Hooper and Erickson should stay down there for now. We dont need them right now. Our team has been playing good the way it is so lets leave it like this. We are brining up our minors way too early. Cabs, willis and Beckett came up at 21 years old!

I'm not saying give them the job forever if they struggle, but it really isn't possible to do worse than Miggy Cab and A-Gone right now.

Beckett was ready, although I don't think bringing up Willis and Miggy were best for them overall in their developing as players. And isn't Miggy 20?

Cabs I can understand slumping because its statiscally proven that rookies slump longer than do veterans. This makes sense because vets have been there and made the adjustments to stick around as long as they have, while the rookies are just babies to facing ML pitching. A-Gon is scaring me though. The man has had the same weakness in his plate approach since I started watching him play. He cant lay off outside breaking stuff. And the pitchers just pound and pound that part of the plate until he pops out our swings meekly and sulks to the bench. All we can hope is that our SP carries us to the promised land because our offense surely isnt going to cut it.

and what's worse Sham is that even when he gets a good pitch to hit, all he can do is foul it off. he finally hit a ball hard in his last AB but right at the SS.

He's not seeing the ball. It's all timing.

Id say its more that he still has a weak sense of the strike zone.

Thanks for the props...although I got ripped a new cornhole for doubting Sea Bass a couple weeks ago.

Cabs' slump is forgivable, he's 20 yrs. old and probably is hitting the wall a little bit. I don't think anyone expected him to hit .290 for the rest of the year.

As for Sea Bass, this is not a slump. Look at his numbers over his career and this is what you get. If you are fine with it, then it's all good, let him play it out and he'll average out to the .240-.250 for the season.

I, for one, can't stand it. Look at Fox's numbers and, as woefully mediocre as they are, they are better than Sea Bass, especially if you give Fox regular AB's. I say stop waiting for Sea Bass to go unconscious like he did for 3 months his rook year or 3 months this year and accept he is subpar at the plate.

Plus the onvious fact that the bottom 3rd of the order is now nothing but a mere formality at the plate.

Mordy Mordy Mordy Mordy....

give him a start, and if not him, then Fox

I'm talking about Alex there by the way, not Cabs...

I'm more worried about Alex.

To give Cabrera a day off, I have no problem with Mordy or Fox. Another option is Conine at third, Banks in left.

Well...the pitcher spot gave us more hits last night then Cabs + agon have given us in the last 45+ ABs. So there is hope in the bottom 3rd!

Look, lets not get too excited about this. Sure, we are in a slump, and it is ill-timed. But I dont think we should panic - besides, there isnt a whole lot we can do about it.

That said, I think that something has to happen. Why not move Cabs up in the lineup? Put him anywhere from #2-5, surround him with good hitters. I would like to see him at #2 between Pierre and Pudge, slide Castillo down to the bottom half of the lineup to help juice that end back up. Just an idea. I think that Cabs has to hit his way out of this, sometimes the best thing to do is force him into a hit and run situation - take away his decision-making options and force him to react. He may be just overthinking his ABs.

As for A gon, well, he has been in a slow slide since just before the ASB. I think he is a better hitter than he has shown of late, but not quite as good as he showed through the first 2 months of the season. I say give Fox some PT there, get him some time to rest. I think he is also pushing it too hard at this point.
